I purchased a groupon for $ 110 that came with 2 appetizers 2 entrees 2 desserts & a bottle of wine. We came & sat down immediately then started off with some complimentary bread & olive oil. Different but okay. I started with calamari & baked clams the calamari great I will definitely recommend… The baked clams on the other hand was a bit soggy idk how but it happens. For entrée I ordered the porter house steak with Mash & Mac & Cheese(I’m lost for words) it was amazing cooked exactly how I wanted it!!! After such a filling meal we had dessert. The waiter was cool the ambiance was great I really enjoyed my Monday night thanks Sofia.

Give this place a chance! Amazing food, and absolutely incredible service. Ask for Luis. Can’t rave enough about the level of service and expertise offered at Sofia’s. Came in with a groupon offer, and will be back without because of such a great experience. Tried: * Fried calamari(tender/not tough/well seasoned and perfectly fried) * Beef carpaccio — flavorful and texturally perfect. Great juxtaposition of flavor/texture. * Salmon Portofino –seared salmon with white wine, lemon, sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms(wild salmon, kudos for that) * Filet Mignon — PERFECTLY medium, well seasoned * sautéed broccoli rabe and mushrooms as sides — basic/solid * full bottle of Cabernet(basic house, decent quality) * cookies, cake and coffee included Highly recommend. Great spot for holiday parties, as it’s large enough to accommodate bigger groups.

Quick bite and a quick drink before a show. They were super friendly years ago. Let that be your guide with a grain of salt… It’s been a while.

We’ve eaten at Sofia’s on several trips to NYC. It’s menu is your standard Italian. We always order fried calamari & a pasta dish, sharing both. The food isn’t spectacular but OK.

I wish I could give this less stars but Unilocal will not allow me to go less than one. On the plus side, they did have some good bread. Everything else however, left a lot to be desired. My girlfriend and I stumbled in because we were hungry. They were missing most of their wine and the wine we were ultimately served tasted spoiled. What should have clued me in about how fresh the food was should have been all the missing wine. The tab was much more than I wanted to pay, given the service we received. Our pasta dishes were horrendous. They both were bland, under-seasoned and caused some horrendous diarrhea the next day. If you value your wallet and your colon, do not eat here

The food was bland with strange textures. It tasted like elementary school cafeteria food. The wine I was given had definitely gone bad. I had to send it back. It took FOREVER to get served. I talked to other patrons at the bar that were also displeased with the food and service.

Some of the reviews have been harsh. We had the Involtini di Mozzarella con Prosciutto as an appetizer and it was delicious. I chose the Farfalle con Salmone and was devine. The cream sauce was delicious. y husband had the Tortellini Sofia which was just as delicious. We would definitely come back. As people who love Italian food, this was right up there with our favorites.

I’ve been going to this restaurant for quite some time now and although the service has gotten worse over the years, the ambiance and food is amazing. The Penna Alla Vodka is delicious. Very rich and filling. The steaks are huge and amazing! Food and ambiance wise, I highly recommend, but if you are in a hurry, make sure you tell the host when you arrive as well as your server. It took us over 15 minutes for our server to come to our table and the food took almost an hour to be served. The Tiramisu and Italian Cheesecake is a MUSTHAVE!

I don’t get all the rough reviews. We dinned here after a matinée and had a great time. Out table had the meatball soup and calamari to start. Both were very good. For mains we had the lemon chicken and pesto gnocchi. These dishes looked and tasted great. They came out very hot and clearly had fresh ingredients. The wine list has some good choices as well. Our server had a great personality and made sure he took care of us. I would come here again before or after a show.

L’ambiance est sympa. Mais la nourriture n’est pas incroyable. Elle né vaut pas son prix. Cela reste un italien standard. J’ai connu un meilleur service…

Very very unhappy with the service. Took almost 10 mins to the server come welcome us and ask for the drinks. The server(small mexican dude) was really rude when asked about two dishes, kept looking to the sides(not paying attention on us). Food we ordered(carpaccio) was good. The problem wasn’t with us, ONLY, two tables next to complained about the same thing(for him been rude and not been helpful with the costumer). Got out the restaurant pissed off with the service and, the worst, HUNGRY! I’LLNEVERGOBACKTHERE!

I’m hesitant to write this after reading other reviews so let me add the disclaimer that we were NOT in a hurry. I can’t speak for all of the waiters but ours made our experience at Sofia’s all the more enjoyable. He was fun and funny. The food was exceptional. It was quiet when we were there but, being so close to the theater district, I think that was probably unusual. It is probably busier early and later in the evening(and did start to pick up the closer we got to 10pm). Authentic white linen tablecloth Italian. Fresh tomatoes & mozz and penne ala vodka(to die for). No dessert but a decaf coffee with milk before heading out to the chilly evening was a perfect ending to a lovely meal.

I came here to watch the off-Broadway show, «How To Be A New Yorker,» which was super entertaining! I loved the scenes and history of NY that the twosome played, from talking about the subway rides, to muggings, to the NY attitude to what all the 5 boroughs have to offer. We also got a cute pin on our way out. This show included a buffet style dinner at Sofia’s, which was just ok. There was bread, some salad, dressing, two types of pasta(penne vodka and the tubes with red sauce) and chicken. It wasn’t high quality or anything, but I wasn’t expecting much. They also gave us some random cheap looking cookies for dessert. It was more about the show, though!

My wife and I had lunch here and found the food good, including the bread. The restaurant is old, the waiters more interested in baseball on the TV, and food more like home cooked meals. Its a safe choice if you want something easy. Personally I found the veal and soup quite nice and well cooked.

This was consider rare for me to give 1 star. This is my worst italian experience. Besides the fact that the restaurant is pretty«nice». Other than that. It’s a big«NONO». If it’s not because of the weather. I would have brought my friends to hell’s kitchen. Since they came all the way from Malaysia. First. Bread was erm. Bad. but. well. not a big deal and I will not focus on the bread. so we waited for the waiter to take our order. they took FOREVER!!! fine. after we ordered. the food took FOREVER again!!! fine again. we just waited for 20 minutes so I should not complain. Ok here comes the food. I ordered the pasta with mushroom sauce. It’s SOOOO salty till I can’t even taste the mushroom. and it just look like a mash potato gravy with my pasta. and some mushroom topping. OMG! It’s soooooooo salty till I have to drink so many cups of water. and no one even bother to come to our place to refill our water. We had an extra glass so I end up drinking the water to «swallow» my pasta… OHGOSH!!! And I heard my friend and his family said that their food is really salty as well. and they don’t really like it… They said they haven’t really had a good food in NYC yet. OHNO. :(

Went here tonight for dinner before seeing the Radio City Christmas show. LOCATION: Great spot in NYC, right near Radio City and not far form Time Square. Easy to find/walk to. DECOR: Very nice layout inside. Small room, but the seating isn’t too squished. Nice white lights decorating the railings by the stairs and hanging from the walls. A bit more fancy and classy than average restaraunts. I would definitely recommend dressing appropriately. FOOD/DRINK: Food was delicious, nice portion sizes as well. Before you order meals you are also given fresh bread sticks and butter to snack on. I ordered the Penne Alla Vodka, which was delicious. Perfect amount of sauce, nice and creamy and hot. Other people at my table ordered the lemon chicken which was also very good. Chicken was a little dry though. It came with 2 very small potatoes on the side. Ordered a bunch of desserts, all of which were more than satisfactory. The Tartufo was chocolate/vanilla ice cream covered in hard chocolate shell with blueberrys and raspberry sauce on the side. The chocolate cake was rich and filling, also accompanied by rapsberry sauce on the side plate. Tiramisu was a little below average, too cheesy tasting for me personally. Crème Brule was delicious and creamy but very small amount, could be a bigger portion size. Drinks were disappointing being that we didn’t even order any because 5 of the wines they said they had, they told us were not in stock in the restaraunt. SERVICE: This is where I ended up having to give the place only 2 stars despite the delicious food. Honestly, the service was pretty terrible. We saw our waitor when he took our orders and then when we got our check. Literally at no other time did he come to our table. When we wanted to order wine we had to ask a «bus boy» cleaning off another table if we could order a bottle. Our waitor also didn’t seem very thrilled to be serving people, he wasn’t friendly at all, seemed bored and cranky. The seating host also didn’t seem very friendly either. The whole atmosphere didn’t make us feel very welcome at all.

I happened across Sofia by chance. I was in New York with a work friend and we were walking around Broadway with one thought in mind, Italian. After a few turns we found Sofia. Not a bad choice, it has a unique ambiance and solid food. We went on a Saturday around 9pm and they had live music, someone was played the piano throughout dinner, which made for a great background. The staff was all friendly but had a very European approach, s-l-o-w. I was fine with the pace, but had I been in any sort of a hurry, I would have felt aggravated. The food was very good, but heavy in garlic, which was fine by me. I enjoyed a glass of the house Chianti, which was tasty. I also got a chance to split an appetizer, which we thoroughly enjoyed, it was the Involving did Mozzarella con Prosecutor(clad). For an entrée we split the Gnocchi al Pesto and the Farfel con Salmon. The gnocchi was a little bland, but OK. The Farfel con Salmon was fantastic, this alone made the dinner. It was rich, but delicious at the same time, not fish on any level, just all goodness. The inside décor of Sofia is ‘interesting’, I was not sure what to make of the multi color lights on the outside perimeter of the ceiling, or the white trees with Christmas lights. It felt odd, not sure what else to say. But, all in all, it satisfied my craving for Italian.

We stopped here before heading to a comedy show. The food was actually excellent; I had the sea bass(which was a special), my wife had the lemon chicken and my daughter went with fetuccini. My sea bass was served with a wonderful combination of vegetables — including artichoke hearts — that made the fish taste fantastic. My wife raved about the lemon chicken all the way through. We had a stroller with us, and while the host did a decent job of finding us a table in the corner, they led us up a collection of stairs and through a maze of tables without so much as an offer to help. It was fine, ultimately, but it smacked of a small joint; even guys on the street offer to help with a stroller. That said, the waitress was attentive and pleasant. Overall, this was a solid experience for us.
