Flavorful without everything being drenched in oil! They have interesting healthy options. I love the toppings such as matchstick carrots, and the brown lemon rice. The cauliflower kale curry is also very tasty. Great prices!

While I’m still in the mode of feeling leery of Chipotle after its Listeria scare, figured I’d try this NYU haunt which is the Chipotle of Indian food. Layout-wise, it’s just that. You go through the line and can pick ingredients to make a DIY bowl or sandwich. You can also get a smaller size bowl if you choose, which is a nice touch. The place was so deserted, though, that it might as well have been a Chipotle in the midst of its current crisis. And the lack of crowds made me wonder how long the food on the line had been sitting out. The place was also eerily silent without any music playing, which makes for a less than hospitable vibe. Beef bowl was fine, but not something I’ll be craving to return for. Toasted-to-order naan was probably the highlight of the whole experience.

Authentic Indian food for a very reasonable price! It’s fun to try new combinations on every visit. Also, you can substitute half bowl of rice for naan bread. I absolutely love this place. It reminds me of my mother’s South Indian food preparations.

I’m so glad that the pace and business of this place is picking up because if it ever closed I would get cardiac arrest. This is the go-to, affordable, healthy, convenient place to eat lunch while on NYU’s campus or in the area. I’m sharing what I get only because I find it so euphoric and filling — brown rice, the spinach lentils, half chicken & half kale /cauliflower, medium sauce, spinach raita, carrots, the kale salad. It’s 8.66 after the 10% NYU discount… like what??? Nothing around this area is that cheap for that much food. SO much better and cheaper than Dezi Shack near Union Square. GODBLESSSTJ

I wanted to love this place because it reminds me of an Indian Chipotle or Rotii, but it is just okay for me. Portion sizes are great, but the flavor are nothing mind blowing. Remember the first time you went to Chipotle and was like, «Hell yeah?» Well, I was hoping for that experience, but it didn’t happened. On this visit, I had the«bowl,» which comes with rice and a beans and meat choice(I got the lentils and the Chicken Tiki Masala). It was all okay-ish and filling, but, honestly, I’ve had better on a British Air flight.

Stopped by Soho Tiffin Junction for lunch last week… here are my thoughts: – Décor is very reminiscent of Chipotle. Which isn’t a bad thing, just would have been nice if STJ incorporated a bit more creativity and Indian-flair. – Service is a bit rushed and impatient. As a newbie I think I took too long making a decision, which seemed to irritate the servers. In my defense the place wasn’t too busy so I’m not sure what the rush was. – Food… I had the small bowl with rice, daal, curried avocado, kachumber, and matchstick carrots. Rice was fine, if a bit bland. The daal was super watery and flavorless. The curried avocado was a disaster.(How that concoction is Indian is just beyond me.) On the plus side the kachumber and carrots were excellent! – Price point was good for the small size. Overall STJ has so much potential, they just need better food. I probably won’t return.

This is the college area, so it’s hard to find a good place that I want to come back to daily or weekly, given that there’s so many options for fast and delicious food. However, tiffin junction has quickly become one of my favorites. It’s Indian food, chipotle style! What could be better? Reasonable prices, efficient staff, and short lines. The only thing that could make it better is if they had sodas or sides, such as bread. Regardless, it’s a great place for tasty Indian food.

How do I love thee? Let me count thy ways: + This is basically Indian Chipotle, you guys. INDIANCHIPOTLE. + I love how flavorful all the bean and entrée options are WITHOUT just being overwhelmingly oniony. I hate onion overkill. + unlimited chutneys and sauces! I highly recommend mango and coconut. + So many vegetarian and vegan options. The corn and avocado curry is brilliant, as is the kale and cauliflower. + I love the size options. The petite size is perfect. + Can choose between white and brown rice. + The prices are very affordable. + Everything is constantly being freshly prepared and refilled. Nothing has ever tasted old or like it has been sitting out forever. + Everything is REALLYDELICIOUS. No complaints here. I love everything about this place.

Not the best Indian food I have ever had and nor the worst. The good: I like that they have two sizes. It gives you to freedom to order based upon your hunger level. I liked the paneer in my paneer dish but it was only paneer and broth(more about that later). The rice was not bad either. Didn’t seem healthy but I didn’t care, just wanted something quick. The bad: The chai tea tasted like watered down milk. No chai taste at all. I was real disappointed. Both the daal(lentils) and spinach part of the paneer was essentially juice only. No lentil texture at all… just a watery substance poured over part of the rice. The paneer while good(see above) was in another watery substance that was green but as far as I could tell contained no spinach. So disappointed. They really need to give us some substance to the meal. Also it was very mild. That is fine with me since I tend to always order my Indian mild but a true fan of the food might find it very bland. Perhaps there is a spicy option I didn’t know about. So many choices around so I probably won’t go back.

Soho* Tiffin** Junction*** — this Indian QSR boasts Wiley Dufresne as a ‘culinary advisor’ and actually opens @ 11 per what looks like a pretty old/permanent marking on the door. NYUID10% discount couldn’t be used on the petite, which was a tasty, quick lunch & large enough that it seemed like the better deal full price anyway. *well north of Houston St. **which serves dinner = Tiffin = to eat lunch **Presumably due to its corner location

The perfect fast, affordable, healthy, tasty lunch spot. The petite tiffin bowl is a great quick lunch. The price is fair. There’s enough diversity in choice that there’s something for everyone, including great vegetarian options. Though, vegetarians should probably pick the normal size, rather than petite. They have great nutritional info online. And, they’re green. All their packaging, including the plastic tops, are comparable. My one complaint is the bean dishes are sometimes not kept hot.

As everyone says, this place is the Chipotle of Indian food. Is it authentic Indian? No. But the flavors, spices, and variety are on point. I’m not coming here for genuine and authentic Indian, they’re catering to the masses(and NYU students). They have lots of vegan options, it’s easy to make choices in the line up and the price is really good. Some items fair on the salty side so I’ve learned what my preference are. As you get rung up you’re given a cup for chilled water which is really nice too. I don’t eat here often but when I do I thoroughly enjoy it.

Not much to say other than… Below average Indian food fast food style that’s wayyyyy overpriced! It’s a snare to university students.

This place is okay for affordable, fresh, decent food. But I imagine the owners can do so much better! Yes, this is a chipotle-styled spot, and while food isn’t served like this in India, I was open to the experience. I got the regular bowl with the brown lemon rice. I couldn’t pick between two of the«beans,» so the server was kind and let me have a scoop of each(never considered sambar to be a bean, but I got that with some channa masala). Chicken tikka masala was my «entrée» and I got a scoop of «avocado curry» — which sounded intriguing but was really off the mark. I got their raita and carrots, both of which were tasty, and some hot sauce. Overall, it was decent, but really bland. And not just the«heat» level of the spice, but just the overall flavor. I would strongly suggest that the owners/chef really consider being more true to the country you are representing when it comes to flavor. It’s completely do-able, and I would imagine scores more filling up your establishment if you did so. My girlfriend got a dosa with her food and that was really terrible. Being a dosa fan, there is no way they made it with urad daal as it had no semblance of tasting like dosa to me. It was also premade and rock hard. If they wanted to offer dosa, it’ll need to be made fresh(and with the right ingredients). Good try, but you really missed the mark on that one. Perhaps roomali roti as the«burrito» would work? Overall the staff were kind, food was edible(with much potential), space was clean, and we left feeling stuffed. I’ll definitely check it out again, but I really hope the owners read this and truly take into account how they can make this place so much better.

Solid 3 starts. Mediocre food. I agree that this place is very Chipotle-esque. I went in not knowing anything about the place or even Indian food in general and the woman who helped me was very I ordered a petite Tikka Masala bowl and the flavor was pretty good and tasty. the women really did not fill it up for the price(around $ 6) i paid as can be seen in my picture. I was still hungry afterwards and had to go to McDonalds which defeats the purpose.

*** Quick Service, Very Filling, Must try *** This is seriously the Chipotle of Indian food. I was very impressed by the quick service and the many«filling» options you can choose. Whether you choose to create a salad bowl, rice bowl, etc, you will guarantee be full with this meal. Highly recommend!

It’s indian food, served in the Chipotle/moes style. You basically go down the line selecting your meat, beans, toppings and sauces. They’ve done a fantastic job of providing a really nice customer environment, and fantastic food. I’d definitely recommend it for lunch as an alternative to some of the other fast food places on 8th.

I’m really happy with this place. It’s a great option for lunch and very affordable. The small bowl is enough for me and with my NYU discount it’s only around $ 5. You can load it up with as many sauces as you want, which I love. Of course I wouldn’t compare it to more authentic Indian food, it definitely has a chipotle sort of feel, but it’s a good option for a cheap and quick lunch. The food is pretty solid and I like the choice of lentils, proteins, and sauces. The spicy sauce you can take at the end is great and mixes well with the bowl, since mine is usually pretty full by the end. The dosas are also good! I really appreciate how many vegetarian options there are.

Bottom line: great value! This fast Indian food venue has so many things going on in their favor it’s hard to decide where to start. I suppose I’ll mention the food itself to begin with. Good. Nothing out of this world, but good. It also depends on your abilities to pick the right combinations. Their sauses are also a great addition, and there’s extra sause on the tables. Dosas are surprisingly filling as are the bowls, I wasn’t expecting to get super full but it was actually hard to even finish my dosa. The service I received was pretty great and friendly. I was also surprised by the fully renovated interiors which are super neat and amply spaceful. I also took advantage of a current Unilocal deal so I tried their kale chips for free(not really my thing, kind of dry, but I can see why the healthy eater can appreciate them). I sat by the corner on the bar so, to people watch or course, but I think I ended up being watched more when digging into my huge dosa(free marketing, you’re welcome STJ: p). All this for under $ 10! Even with a drink you wouldn’t spend much more than ten bucks. By the way, did I mention they have $ 3 draft beer? B) And they were playing good rock classics when I came in(which is a good thing) perhaps to honor the late burg3r joint that used to be here. The only negative think I can think about my experience at «SoHo» Tiffin Junc. was the need to use of of their plastic forks(Disposable plastic is bad for the environment) because my dosa started to come appart towards the end. I guess it happens. Keep it up STJ! and best of luck, it must be a hard location — high rent and lots of well-established competition. And I’ll be back.
