Space NK Apothecary

Many moons ago, I stumbled upon Space NK inside of Bloomingdales. I thought to myself, «Self, this is super convenient! Space NK carries a lot of brands that Bloomies doesn’t.» That is pretty much where the novelty ends.
I have made many purchases from this shop within a department store and the service has been hit or miss. Sometimes they make fantastic recommendations and are super accommodating, other times, not so much.
The return policy is iffy at best. You have to return items in their original condition for resale, which is wildly different from Bloomingdales return policy. I was recently «matched» to a foundation and concealer (notice I put matched in quotes). When I got home and put the makeup on in natural light, not only did it not match my skin — I looked jaundice!
The good news is that Space NK allowed me to exchange my products, the bad news was I was not treated especially well. I felt like I was bothering the sales person. When I asked questions about specific products, she pulled them out of their display and put them on the counter. No offer to try the item out.
Definitely a different customer service experience when you are exchanging vs. purchasing.

Wish my review could be as glowing as Shan’s. I’m a longtime Eve Lom user and stopped in to renew my supply of the awesome moisture mask. The saleswoman approached me really aggressively — I told her I was running low on the mask but was perhaps in the market for a lighter day cream, too. She suggested a sunscreen, and I politely told her that I am very particular about sunscreens and really preferred a moisturizer without SPF in it. Her reply? «You know… sunscreen is REALLY important.» No shit. I keep going politely because I really need this moisture mask and want to get out of there in a timely manner, so I just say nevermind on the day cream, if she could just grab me the mask that would be great, and that maybe I’d come back for a consultation later about another moisturizer. «Are you even WEARING sunscreen? There’s LITERALLY no way this sunscreen is going to clog your pores unless you have really gross skin.» Like, listen. You LITERALLY just met me. You don’t know my name, let alone my skin type/​history, and you don’t seem like you’re an aesthetician. My skin isn’t GROSS, and I’m not going to buy your stupid sunscreen, and I’m going to another location to buy the stupid mask because you never once even made moves to go and get it for me. I’m still befuddled over why she was so insistently pushing this stupid SPF, but when I’m buying a $ 90 mask, I don’t expect to try and get peddled into a package deal, because I’m paying a lot for a luxury item and this isn’t Bath and Body Works. Her tone was so unprofessional and off-​putting. The Space NK in Soho is far superior.

I realized that there is no Unilocal review for the Space NK Apothecary located within Bloomingdale@ Lexington. I have such a fantastic experience with their sales staff Violeta that I feel that I have to provide this review. So I just added this business in Unilocal.
I was looking to buy Eve Lom cosmetics and skin care. I searched online and found out that the Space NK Apothecary at Bloomies carried them. I immediately made my way there during lunch hour on a Thursday (March 27, 2014).
I was gazing at all the various products they have on display when Violeta asked me if I needed assistance. I explained to her that I just found out about Eve Lom products and am very interested. She was well informed and was able to address all my questions without any delays or ponderance. Which to me demonstrate her knowledge and faith in the products. She did my make up and matched the concealer and tinted moisturizer according to my skin tone and complexion. I loved the fact that she did not try to upsell anything to me. In fact, she even advised me only to buy what I needed as I generally have good complexion and did not need heavier coverage products like foundation and such.
I loved the lip stick that she put on me as it felt natural and did not affect my skin. I ended up buying all the products that I tried on and left with samples of many others products.
Although I dealt mostly with Violeta, my interactions with other sales staff, albeit comparatively limited, was positive. I will be recommending this branch and Violetta to my friends for sure.
