just picked up my pride and joy from getting a tune up. I have a very hard time trusting anyone with my bike, given how much time and money I put into piecing it together. SPC came via recommendation and needless to say, Shawn treated it like one of his own. remarkable attention to detail, including walking me thru everything that needed adjustment, very professional and prompt with communication. will gladly continue to give him my business.

Shop did not abide posted business hours. Despite being there, offered no help or even use of pump. A big inconvenience for commuter.

Brought my 2014 Cannondale Evo in for a tune up, and ended up buying a new set of carbon wheels. The service was excellent. Thanks guys!

Just had Shawn at SPCARBON give my bike a tune-up. He did an excellent job and fixed a couple things that other bike shops had gotten wrong. It helped that the price was right — a tremendous value over extra-inflated prices in Manhattan bike shops. But price isn’t everything — it’s just good to know that he knows what he’s doing and the things he adjusted made sense(and that he didn’t fiddle with anything that didn’t need it). I recommend him highly.

(Same review on Google Map, but liked the service there so much that I figured I’d post on Unilocal as well to let everyone know.) I first heard of SP Carbon at a group ride where they were providing some SAG support at the beginning of the ride along with answering any questions people had about bike maintenance or riding in general. They were a pleasure to work with there and they mentioned that they had a tune-up service available along with a bike fit for a pretty reasonable so I made an appointment and stopped by. Their shop is super clean and organized which is always a good sign in a bike shop and I was immediately greeted by the friendly people there. I mentioned that my 105 set was experiencing phantom shifts under load so they went at it and start seeing what was wrong with it. During the entire process while they were troubleshooting it they were more than happy to answer questions and explain the pros/cons to everything that they were doing. In the end(after 90 minutes of lots of tweaking which went above and beyond what I expected), they ended up replacing my cable housing and cable to my rear derailleuer, replacing my rear brake pads that I was unaware of being almost spent and a pair of Michelin Lithion 2’s for a very reasonable price. Long story, short, my bike shifts significantly better and I ended up doing my best laps to that date in Central Park the next day. Great, knowledgeable, friendly, and most important of all, straight forward guys there that will definitely go out of their way to ensure that you’re happy with their service/product. This place will definitely be my go-to for major tune-ups and hopefully taking a serious look at them for my next bike. P. S. For the price range, they have a very reasonable tune-up/bike fit fee however, overall, if you include their bikes they are definitely a high-end shop.

I bought a carbon fiber bike from SP-Carbon Bikes in 2010. I found SP while looking for a high-end road bike. SP is a small(but apparently rapidly-growing) private label builder founded by a guy named Shawn P. The company sources parts from various suppliers and builds out the bikes to customers’ custom specs. At first I wasn’t sure about going with an unknown outfit like SP but one visit to the office fixed that – Shawn the ever-present founder literally lives and breathes bikes, he’s a walking encyclopedia of bike knowledge. For him it’s a labor of love and he puts his heart and soul into every single bike the company produces. The SP people take as long as needed to understand your individual wants and needs. They’re very conscious of cost and not overbuilding a bike just for the sake of doing so. And the pricing scheme – they charge cost for the parts plus a very reasonable flat build fee – means that they have no incentive to oversell you in any case. SP says they scour the world for the best values in the various components, plus they buy in bulk so they get some discounts. The net of everything is that SP Carbon bikes are at least a thousand dollars – and in my case a fair bit more than that – less than a comparable high-end Cervelo or Specialized. And SP bikes are absolutely beautiful, as good quality as you’ll find on any bike, anywhere. Wonderful all-carbon frames, phenomenal components and build work – I doubt you’d notice any difference between an SP and a top-of-the-line Pinarello. I went with an Ultegra setup with aluminum Neuvation wheels, and it’s a gorgeous ride, just about 16.5 pounds, stiff yet forgiving as good carbon should be. The build was perfect. But the best thing about SP is that you immediately enter a little world where it’s all about the bikes and everyone is on the same wavelength. You instantly feel welcome to hang around as long as you like, asking questions or just talking about bikes. When I bought my bike SP promised free tune-ups I think for life(not sure if that’s still on offer), and last week I emailed the company to ask for my first tune-up in the 1.5 years I’ve owned my bike. Sure enough, I was immediately contacted and offered a slot that Saturday. I took the bike in and an hour later had it back looking as good as new. They even threw in a new seat, for free, because they had a couple of nice ones lying around spare. What great service! Overall I couldn’t recommend SP more highly.
