Square Circle New York

I’ve never been in better shape in my life! After trying a few different Muay Thai gyms in NYC, I finally came across this gym conveniently located in FiDi across the Fulton Street station. Kru Rob and Kru Bea have built an excellent training facility with very knowledgeable instructors and super friendly students. This is one hell of a workout and I highly recommend to all who want to get in shape and learn the sport!

Beware of deceptive marketing/​sales tactics. A «30 day free trial» is advertised on the site. But you have to come in for an «assessment» first. After this 30 min assessment, they push you to sign up for a membership which is overpriced I’ll add. But back to the «free trial». Apparently it’s only Wednesday 5:30 classes that are free the first month, meaning you only get a 4 day free trial really. That is if you can make those classes. If this was stated explicitly on the site I wouldn’t have even wasted my time.

This is an excellent gym with a staff that has a passion for martial arts, fitness and health.
I joined about a year ago and I always look forward to getting a workout in. Being in an environment where you feel comfortable and welcomed is key; this place nails it.
Kru Rob is a wealth of knowledge and very keen on technique. This is why I chose to learn Muay Thai at Square Circle and will continue to train and spar here. I would recommend this gym for more advanced/​experienced fighters too as there are several different tiered classes based on skill level.
There are also plenty of sparring sessions to practice the technique with amateur, pro and other novice fighters. Great BJJ program too. Clean/​new equipment.
I would love to see them expand soon!

I can’t say enough about my love for this gym. From the moment I walked through their doors I felt at home. The instructors are top-​notch, and truly care about each members’ progress. Classes are relatively small with personalized attention, and great energy from the other members. Whether you are looking to get fit, continue your muay thai training, or look for avenues to compete, I believe that Square Circle New York is the place to be.

I was really excited to give this place a try, and really turned off by their misleading marketing and pushy sales attempt.
I’ve been working on my strength for awhile and was interested in trying out Muay Thai to learn some fighting skills. I saw the ad for a 30 day trial on their website and thought it was a great opportunity to find out if it was something I would enjoy. Later that week I went in for the 1hr one on one session.
The session was fun, but immediately after we finished the trainer started pushing me to sign up for a 6 month contract. I was in no way interested in that kind of commitment since I felt the 1:1 intro section did not give me a good idea of whether I would be hooked enough to keep it up.
She kept telling me that she was trying to help me out, because they’d waive the registration fee and I’d get some other freebies. I’m like, «What about the 30 day trial? I want to find out if I like it!» and she informs me that the trial is only for people who have committed to the 6 month contract. Wow. That is not a free trial, that is buy 6 months get 1 free. In other words, a bait and switch.
At this point I immediately lose all interest of doing business with this gym. A 30 day trial is extremely generous, but don’t offer it if you don’t want to follow through. Why not offer a discounted first month or something? There are so many ways to draw in business without being disingenuous.

I started training at Square Circle about 4 months ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. I appreciate the intimate setting along with the intense training. The instructors are serious about their craft. Coach Will and Coach John make sure you get a good workout and learn proper technique. When I started I was only going twice a week. After a month the addiction kicked in and now I’m going 4 days a week. What I love most about this school is that that make you feel like family. Along with Muay Thai, they offer MMA, Women’s Boot Camp, & Yoga.
I recommend Square Circle to anyone looking to get fit & have fun in clean environment.

Square Circle New York is an excellent martial arts gym with instructors that really try to get you to feel as comfortable with the classes as possible. You can go to other gyms that may show you similar techniques but few can match SCNY’s welcoming nature. These guys and gals love what they do and it shows every day on the mats. You’re not just another account to them. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I have been going to Squared Circle New York for about a month to help me get into shape to fight my Crohns disease, increase my cardio and assist in my breathing so perhaps I can toss the inhaler one day. From the first day i was made to feel as if part of the family.
The feature i love most is the size of the training center. It is a one studio facility which allows everyone including the owners and coaches to know your name from day 1. The classes are not too large (biggest class I have been in was 12 people). The coaches are great at showing you the proper form and understand not everyone in the class is at the same level which made a new person like me feel very comfortable.
All of the students I have encountered are friendly and always willing to give pointers during the classes. There are no egos at this place. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a great skill and get into shape.

Amidst the mayhem of the Financial District lies this amazing training facility. Awesome instruction by Kru Rob and Kru Beatrice. These two amazing instructors/​owners left promising careers in Finance to follow their passion! What more can you ask for??? When people believe in themselves that much you know that you’re in good hands. Kru Rob is certified under Grand Master Toddy and is a world class fighter as well.
Aside from the best instructors in the biz the most important thing to me when I’m looking for a gym to train at are the mats. This place is covered literally from wall to wall with the best and most expensive mats in the world, Zebra Mats. Ultra clean from the locker rooms to the reception area.
You can’t go wrong with this place, highly recommended!!!

I went there for a free trial. I had 1 on 1 with a Muay Thai instructor. We spent like 30 minutes for the session. I did some warm up, and he showed me a basic strike combo (Jab and cross punch). After the session, the guy really tried to get me sign up for monthly membership with 6 months contract. He really did pressure me and made me feel guilty into signing up. However, it didn’t work and it actually forced me away. I meant if the club is really good, why they need to force you into signing up for 6 months contract?

— The guy told me BJJ instructor doesn’t even have a black –belt
— The instructor he actually is training at other fighting club. Why I know? Because I went to other club and I saw him there.
Overall, I’m not recommend you to enroll if you want to learn MMA. However, I believe they have great muay thai program.

SCNY Women’s Fitmmax Bootcamp is so much hard work and so much fun! Coach Will definitely keeps you on your toes from the warm-​up, until the end of class! He loves to throw out random endurance challenges every now and then! He is encouraging with the group as well as 1 on 1. He never runs out of helpful workout and dieting tips for your individual goals. He cares about everyone’s successes and negative statements never part his lips; everything is «can do» or «done»! Coach Will’s sense of humor isn’t lacking either, you’ll get some laughs in as well. SCNY as a whole is a great gym with friendly, caring, knowledgeable and professional staff. When you walk in the door your are greeted with so much positivity, you feel like family.

This is an amazing program. No matter what your goal is– weight loss, to get lean, to build muscle mass– this program will help to get you there. It’s a great friendly environment for all fitness levels and the program will keep you motivated to push yourself further than you thought possible. Not only will Coach Will help you achieve your fitness goals, he will also help guide you in the ups and downs of weight loss — even the dreaded plateau. Since working with Coach Will, I’ve lost over 20lbs, dropped 2 sizes and feel stronger and healthier than I have in years. If you’re looking for a sure thing that will get you results, this is it!

The classes are awesome! I just started Muay Thai and appreciate the more intimate setting of Square Circle. I tried a month at the WAT and was overwhelmed by the large classes. Kru Rob and Kru Bea are super friendly (but tough) and the place is very clean! I’ve been going there for about a month now also ended up exhausted, but I can’t wait to go back.

Square Circle is an awesome place to learn martial arts and get a great workout. The fit max class is really tough but only a half hour so I feel like I accomplish alot in a short amount of time. I have never taken any martial arts classes before taking their Muay Thai class — it rocks. I feel stronger after every class. Kru Rob and Kru Bea are so patient and make it very comfortable for beginners to start learning. Kru Rob and Coach Kurt are amazing in the children’s class as well. I signed my two young sons up for a Saturday childrens class and they love it. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to try something new or just get an amazing workout.

I thought I was in shape till I took the FitMax class. DANNNGGG I was wrong!

After 7 years of studying at a classical Chinese kung fu school, several months at a Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu school, boxing gyms, and trying out several other serious martial arts schools, I can say that this is the best martial arts school I have had the privilege of training at.
Since starting here a month and a half ago, I have received lots of individual attention, with expert instruction. Kru Rob is a very enthusiastic instructor, who delivers an exhausting workout, while providing top notch instruction, all the while keeping you completely engaged in each class. He breaks every technique down step by step so you understand as much of the nuance as your level allows you to, then drills the technique with repetition.
I’ve seen many schools with tiresome attitudes from overbearing instructors, and schools where the students aren’t interested in learning, but just want to get out their aggressions on other bodies. Thus far, I have not seen any semblance of that at all in this school. Kru Rob and the other instructors are incredibly kind, accommodating, and personable, and the rest of the students have been really friendly and help each other along so we can all progress comfortably.
This is a seriously top flight school and worth anyone’s time, whether for just an awesome workout while keeping your mind engaged or for a serious martial arts practitioner.
