Stage Left Studio

Nice little venue right where you’d expect it to be. They manage to do a decent amount with a small space. It’s kind of a pain in the ass to get in the building, though. They dont often have someone manning the buzzer. Also, like any crammed space, peoples smells arent often the greatest. I’d like to give this place 3.5 stars, not 3. However, that isn’t an option on Unilocal.By the way, take the stairs — it’s a better workout.

After months of checking out various theaters and being unable to find one that was clean, comfortable and affordable, I was about to give up when someone mentioned STAGE LEFT STUDIO. One visit and I knew I had found the perfect theatre space for our one person show, DIVERSIONS & DELIGHTS.
Accessible by an elevator that leads right into the lobby, it has a marvelous lay out that makes traffic flow easy to control. As you get off the elevator, you go straight in to the box office. From there you can make a left to use the very clean rest room, or, by turning right, enter the theater it self.
Free standing chairs lets you set up your space for up to 45 people, so every seat is a good one .
The sound and light system are high tech, and the projection system is a nice bonus (a screen can be lowered shoud you so desire) .
The stage is small but if you have a small cast it works very well indeed. There is only one exit (stage left) which leads to a small but workable off stage area, as well as a door so your actor can enter and exit easily).
The performers can also make use of a very homey green room.
Cheryl is a performer herself so she understands the needs of fellow performers and she is a very fair and nice person .

Highly recommended for both performers and audiences.

When I needed to plan a cast screening and dinner party to celebrate the première of an independent short film, Stage Left came highly recommended and they MORE than lived up to their reputation.
It’s a completely unique space — as New York as the neighborhood itself while remaining personal and comfortable.
This was a dinner party for over thirty-​five people and I was worried about cooking and serving, but Cheryl made it easy. The kitchen was easy to work in, the bar /​lobby comfortable and accommodating. When I feared we were in need of more wine, she directed me to a liquor store around the corner, with equally accommodating delivery guys.
The theatre itself is fantastic, with AV equipment on a par and better than most spaces I’ve worked in. My event was a huge success thanks in no small part to this wonderful space.
I can’t wait to finish my next project so I can host another event here.
With so many small independent theatres closing their doors, Stage Left should be considered a treasure for independent artists in search of awesome spaces to best present their work.

Stage Left Studio is an intimate venue where bold theater happens. The space is comfortable both for the audience and for the performer/​s. The technical production capability is top-​notch. Cheryl King is deeply passionate and committed to theater, and consequently, attracts and curates powerful works.

I’ve done two one-​woman shows at Stage Left Studio: one at the old location and one at the current. On both occasions, I was met with help, support and professionalism. The newer space is fantastic, with more seats, a bigger stage, and a great tech setup. The lobby is comfortable, and there’s a nice, spacious dressing room. I would absolutely recommend this space.

Cheryl King is the consummate professional. What a fabulous space to produce an event! The first production of my solo show was in this space thanks to Cheryl. GREAT location. Easy to get to. Inside it is beautiful aesthetically. Dressing room, lobby, the works. And great tech capabilities for a small space too. Highly recommended for intimate gatherings.

A gem of a theater in NYC unlike any other. Stage Left feels like home the moment you walk in. The quality of the shows is top notch and it’s a perfect space for intimate theater from plays to one person shows. Unique. Clean. Lovely!

I have had the great pleasure of taking Cheryl’s writing workshop, working one on one with Cheryl, and seeing Cheryl perform. She is an amazing director, performer, and coach. The stage left space is warm and invites creativity. It is also easy to get to. I could not recommend stage left more! Go to stage left for innovative performances and inspired writing work!

Charming, intimate (about 50 seats), and reasonably priced… this is by far the best venue I’ve seen in NYC for a reading or one person show. It’s inviting, warm, modern– none of that run down feeling that many theaters in the city have. And Cheryl, the owner, is helpful, flexible, and really passionate about theater.

I found Stage Left Studio completely by chance and bought tickets to several shows… Drama at the Point, Be Careful: Don’t let the Sharks eat you, Alzheimer’s Blues, and Shylock. Why you may ask? Carpedium! And we’ll, convenience. I went to the performances with no expectation or knowledge of the performances. I must admit that I was blown away with then performers’ talent and Cheryl and KC’s welcoming attitude and warmth. I was welcomed as though I was a familiar face while the truth is that I have no association with the theater at all. While I may not know much about the theater, I appreciate great customer and personal service, which will me a REPEAT customer. The performances are superb– I would HIGHLY recommend all of them. I intend to see them again and recommend to my friends and family.

Probably the coolest & coziest venue you’ll ever see a show in. It’s small but if you’re not doing a show where your goal is to fill arenas & you want an intimate setting, this is the place for you. The bathroom is very cool, Cheryl is awesome and the shows I saw were spectacular. I’d return and encourage others to go.

last week I went to lucie pohl’s one woman show here. Hi Hitler –which was kinda expensive as it was a benefit for some good cause or other. It was a very offoff broadway experience, the theatre 6 flights up was hot, the AC underwhelming, but the the place packed to the gills and there is a proper stage, which an audience member was told to take his feet off twice. The lighting and sound system pro. The seats as you know yourself were hard. And of course no smoking cigars during the performance which is a constant disapointment to me. It seemed as if there was a plant in the audience who laughed loudly and long at almost everything. The show was entertaining tho and tinged with a bitter sweet subtext. Pohl held the stage on her own for a full hour. Shes a consumate perfomer and has a unique story, which she tells with moxy and charm

Had another space booked for a production meeting/​listening party that fell through at the last minute — it was a pain in the moment, but in the end it was the best thing that could have happened because I found Stage Left and it was PERFECT! Excellent flexible seating, great sound system AND Cheryl is just fantastic. Will definitely be calling Stage Left first next time!

I’ve been here a couple times to see «Drama At The Point» with Karen Sklaire. Really heart warming, spirit affirming material. The space is very comfortable. Intimate rather than dinky. The technical production is surprising immersive for such a small, but I’m sure the talent choice has something to do with that as well.

I have tried alot of burgers but this is the best burger I ever put into my mouth… cooked perfectly… the quality of the meat is outstanding… and the fries are just great… crispy and cut thickly like steak fries… amazing…I dream of this burger!!!

This space will provide you with the most authentic NYC feelings with monster talent always gracing the stage… Make sure you attend a show here at least three times a season…

If you thought that Stage Left was a cool, innovative performance space before, wait until you see Cheryl’s new location, which is opening in September! I got a sneak peak of the new space and I truly think it is going to become one of the hottest off-​Broadway theatres around!

In addition to being THE spot in NYC for solo shows, Stage Left has one of NYC’s best erotic shows, Forbidden Kiss. It is a combo of burlesque dance, erotic story-​telling, and cutting-​edge comedians. After the show, wine and snacks at no extra charge AND you get to hang out with the performers, some of whom are seriously hot.

Cheryl King is not only a talent in her own right, she has a great eye for innovative, entertaining & compelling projects. She consistently produces work that has a world-​view, a sense of humor and keen intelligence. She is capable of and appreciates work with broad ranging themes, styles and subjects.
