I’m surprised to see the negative reviews here. Perhaps they are dropping the ball during Restaurant Week? My husband is a fan and takes me to Steak Frites fairly often. I usually order the Rib-Eye and a glass of red wine. The wait staff is attentive and pleasant and I always leave a happy camper.

Came here for restaurant week. I did not like at all. The only reason i gave it 2 stars was the appetizer — salad with goat cheese. This was great(i love goat cheese)! The wine was also good, not great, but good. The entrée was not good. I was hungry so i ate it, but not good at all. I had the steak frites. Steak was well done(as i like) but it was extremely hard. I know people will probably say it was hard because it was well done, but this is not the case for 2 reasons. I usually get well done, and when i do, the meat is not extremely hard like this. Second, my friend got it medium rare(or medium) and she did not like it and didn’t even eat any of it(she left it). I got the molten chocolate cake for dessert — this was good, but not«amazing» as i expected. I probably would not recommend this, especially during restaurant week.

I find it odd that some people give this restaurant a bad review. It is actually really nice. People here are friendly. And the food are quite good. I had been here 3 times now and it always is pleasant. I get the PreFixe dinner and it was fantastic. I recommend this place.

I just came here last week with a couple of my girlfriends during Restaurant Week. Here’s what you order: The crab cake as your appetizer, the petite filet mignon, and finish up with pot de crème mocha. The crab cake is served over this corn and dried cranberry salsa/salad: bomb. The steak was cooked perfectly and came with asparagus and lump crab, die. And the dessert? I can’t even speak words. I ate it so slowly because I didn’t want it to end… no lie. My dates had the mussels and shrimp cocktail for apps, both very good; short ribs and salmon for their entrees, they liked them; and who cares what they had for dessert cuz mine was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Ever. Our waitress was so great and cute and we thoroughly entertained her while we were there. The ambiance was great: could definitely be romantic and is on the chic/trendy side. Lovely experience and I want to go back there tomorrow. Eat well, kids.

Alright, so while we were going around and seeing the sights in NYC, I was looking for a place for steak and fries. I came upon this place and was really excited about eating here. So, from the start, I was excited for the food because of the just the name. Steak & Frites… but it was downhill from there. FOOD — 0.5 Star: We ordered a crab cake and mussels to start. The mussels were ok and the crab cake(which I normally love) was pretty dry. The sauce saved it a bit. Sadly, this was probably the highlight of my meal. Hence, the 0.5 stars on the food. I ordered the steak and frites… and a Bouillabaisse for my partner. The steak was not cooked to what I wanted and it was a bit cold as well as my frites. The Bouillabaisse ok, but was a bit gritty. So, it was not finished. Also, on a side note, we ordered sodas, but we were unaware that they were going to charge us for each drink. I was a bit thrown off because I’ve eaten at one or two restaurants, but haven’t been charged for each refill. The waiter kindly informed us on the third refill. Yes, third refill… I’ll explain some more. For dessert, we ordered an apple tart. This would have been good, but it was not memorable at all. ATMOSPHERE — 1.25 Stars: This place is alright… nothing special. We were seated towards the back and the décor was just stuck in a certain decade… not sure which one. SERVICE — 1 Star: Well, as I said before, we drank about 3 sodas each as this turned out to be a ~2+ hour meal due to the SLOWSLOWSLOW service and there weren’t even that many people in the restaurant at the time. We arrived at 8PM and it was not packed. It took about 10 minutes to get menus and then another 15 minutes or so to order. It was like our table was invisible to the waiter. Needless to say, the food and drinks came out even slower as the dinner progressed. It was like a race with a snail… with the snail winning though that would’ve probably made the dinner more interesting. We would get a portion of our order and have some sort of intermission of nothingness for 15 minutes or so. It was really ridiculous. I’m all about service and I understand if there’s some slack with getting the menus or getting the food, but it was the ENTIRE meal from the moment we were seated to the bitter end of paying for the meal. RECOMMENDATION: This place was a waste of our time… ~2+ hours. I will not be going back here and I will never recommend this place to anyone. There are way better restaurants in NYC with better food, service, and overall quality. Do not waste your time going here… it’ll be time wasted that you’ll never get back.

I was here having dinner with friends and colleges last night. I read the reviews in Unilocal(of course) before going here. I have nothing bad to say about this place. The food was good and so was the service. We were 6 people we all had dinner and dessert and coffee and beers and oysters and side dishes and app. $ 200 Cant go wrong! The décor it’s beautiful and gave me the feel of a french coffee from beautiful Paris. Cute place, good food, good for groups. :-) I liked it.

Excellent for groups! We called late on a Saturday night and they were able to accommodate all 8 of us. Sa-weet! The place is a typical Steak Frites establishment, even down to the décor. I ordered the mussels and fries, I can’t not, I freaking love that combo. Thank you Belgium for inventing it! I feel like they gave me a 100 mussels, the bowl was jam-packed. The fries, eh, I like my fries small, thin, these were fat and not down my alley. However, they did have $ 5 late night glasses of wine. Yes sir! The place did everything it needed to for us that night. Would I come back? I’m not sure, especially since I’m only in town for a couple of days at a time and there are other places I would want to see. If I lived in NY, yeah I’d be back.

I like how they offer Hitachino beer here. I went with a friend for the RW menu. The place was crowded but since we had reservations we were seated right away. The bar was crowded and loud. It was hard to hold a conversation. THe server was VERY friendly. I got the Crab Cake, Steak Frites(med rare), and Profiteroles. The crab cake was good. I have no complaints of it, although i wish it was chunkier. I mean when i think about crab cakes i think of the one that they serve at Del Frisco’s, and nothing can really compare unless you go to like Maryland. The Steak Frites was cooked a perfect med rare. The steak itself was seasoned well, but i felt like it wasn’t really aged? There was no wow factor in the beefy flavor like you get at a typical nice steakhouse. Flavor wise, i feel like you can cook up your own steak from a USDA Prime Choice from a supermarket., and get the same flavor. The fries were forgettable. The profiteroles were ehh whatever. It was okay. The Hitachino Ginger Beer… AMAZING. I love it. The place is pretty dim, but it’s interesting how they have hats as their theme for decorations.

I don’t know why this place does not have better reviews? I guess I am happy I had a pretty o. k experience. As I strolled around the area I stopped in here for Saturday Brunch with Mommy. I also, paid close attention to the«A» they got for city inspection. Nowadays that helps me make a decision faster about where I am going to eat. They had a prefix menu which can be a bit limiting sometimes when you see the options that come along with the unlimited Mimosa’s and Bloody Mary’s. However, I had the Steak Frite, a side of Spinach and my «unlimited Mimosa», occasionally had a bite of the Penne Shrimp Pomodoro Gulf shrimp, Slow Roasted Tomatoes, Olive Oil, Garlic, Fresh Basil my mom ordered. My Steak was well down and very tasty. The fries were really good too. I know there is no comparison, but I love McDonald fries fresh off the grease, and these were just the right amount of flavor and had enough salt that I wanted without the fast food grease ;) I got a little annoyed with the waitress because after we finished our first round of Mimosa’s from the jug instead of bringing us a new jug she brought a half filled one and gave it to us. Now I don’t know about you but I thought of this in two ways: 1. Why the heck would you bring me a half used batch of Mimosa from another table? That made me feel cheap. 2. Even though the time period devoted to brunch was over, bringing me fresh Mimosa’s should not be difficult. Call me nit picky, but when it comes to food and customer service you just should not settle!
