Nothing really special about this place. The location is awful since they crammed their business into a puny office space with barely any seats. The people who eat here are pigs. They don’t clean up their mess. It’s self served, not waiter service, who do you think you are? I had to clean up after them just to be able to get a seat. Burger is good, not anything that will exceed my expectations. It gets messy so have a bunch of napkins. Fries are pretty darn good too since they’re made from scratch as you can tell from the potato skin still being on the fries. Would I come here again? Most likely not. I definitely favor Shake Shack over this place. More seating, employees actually will clean up the mess of people leave behinds, unfortunately also after swines, and of course the food speaks for itself.

My sons had burgers and fries here and they loved them. I tried the burger and it was pretty good. I also had loaded fries and they were pretty darn good. The vanilla milkshake was DELICIOUS!!! Would come back if in the area.

For me, this place is where I go to eat after watching many Broadway shows, since it’s so close, cheap, and open late. Did I mention their delicious milkshakes? Anyways, the price point is pretty good for what you get. You can get a regular burger and their famous shoestring fries for approximately $ 5. A better cut of meat(i.e. steakburger) will jump that price up to around $ 9(with fries). However, their price is pretty hard to beat, with so many more expensive restaurants around. It’s also pretty busy, so there’s usually limited seating. The lines move by fast, though, so you have plenty of time to hawk around for a spot to sit in. Their chili dog is something I won’t recommend. It’s just cheap chili slathered onto a hot dog. While I admit that I might crave it occasionally, it might be a negative health experience to try and consume the entire thing.(It’s a foot long. Nope.) I give this place four stars mostly because 1. You shouldn’t come in expecting amazing quality(think: McDonalds and Shake Shack had a baby.) 2. The price is an obvious giveaway to the mediocre quality. 3. MILKSHAKES. PS. They include a lot of coupons for your next order of burgers, etc, if you order take out.(They stick em into the bags.)

The double cheese burger’s quality is a bit below average. The beef is too dry and ketchup inside taste overwhelmingly sour. The fries look like made from leftover potato scratches, and it’s oily. And the tables are dirty as well.

So honestly I wanted to go to Chic Fil A but if was closed this past Sunday so I decided to come here instead. I’m from the Midwest and remember this place as a favorite shake spot. I hate that it’s in the middle of no where. Location wise it sucks. Also it’s really small inside with barely any Seats. Plus they only serve popular items. Not s full shake shack menu. I got a patty melt which comes with fries with a cookie shake on side. The patty melt does melt in your mouth. Burgers are better than five guys and also shake shack. Fries though we’re greasy. The shakes here are great. They are old fashion shakes and not that bs you find else where. Best fast food shakes! I would come back if in area and there was no other options. Shake wise it’s great.

First meal in NYC after a long flight — it was the closest thing to the hotel, and as an Aussie I was looking forward to trying this out seeing as the ratings were decent, but I was quite disappointed. The meals(i.e hot dogs) were nothing more than ordinary

Redeemed LevelUp credit at this clean shop for a small fries($ 2.71). Fast and easy. Couldn’t find the water though. All their machine seemed to have was sparkling Dasani.

Good place to stop for a burger and fries. Not the largest burger out there. But good deal on the combo and fries. Their shakes definitely a crowd pleaser. Small seating area in the restaurant. Sometimes the lines are long, but they move pretty fast.

Steak N Shake you will be missed. Starting my new job in pricey midtown made me a strong believer of the lunch box ! Who wants to waste their hard earnt pesos on a $ 10 salad? I don’t. Steak and Shakes milkshakes will leave you satisfied… And wanting more. Plus the fries are delicious. What more can ya ask for ?!

Not as good as the Steak n Shake in the suburbs. Menu is a lot smaller than its Midwest counterparts. Prices are also higher to account for location. You won’t find the 4 under $ 4 here

My first time eating here is linked with the memory of the first time eating out with my now best friends. I love the prices, the old diner vibe décor, juicy, greasy, delicious burger, their crispy thin fries in the paper cup, and amazing shakes. Try the frisco melt — not a proper burger but with the sauce and bread it’s DELICIOUS. Space is cramped so I’ve had to stand and eat a few times in the back area but not complaining. Also, there is a burger phone on display with their swag you can buy.

I always frequent Steak ‘n Shake when I visit Florida so when I found out that there is one open in midtown I immediately had to have it. I am so happy this establishment has finally made its way up north. The burgers, thin crispy fries, shakes and of course the prices are not to be beat. They also deliver.

Let’s say right now that this is NOT a REAL Steak ‘n Shake. It is a Signature location which means truncated version of the real thing. All the ones I’ve been to are real locations where they are open 24/7, you can find suitable seating, get served by wait staff & see their very good and comprehensive menu. Here all you get is jam packed seating, long wait times and a truncated menu that while good, doesn’t feature some of their best stuff. The chocolate and vanilla milkshakes are on par with the experience of getting them at a real location. But I will give them credit for having the Coke machines where you can create your own beverage. They also serve alcohol here, which you can’t get at a full service Steak ‘n Shake. I guess those are some small comforts to make up for the travesty of this compared to a true Steak ‘n Shake experience. I’m not even sure if you can get a hamburger here with one layer of steak burger. So if you’ve never been to a Steak ‘n Shake in your life, you should go just to try it once even though you are not getting the real experience. However, if you’re used to the real experience at a true Steak ‘n Shake location or you want the experience you got in some other suburban area you’ll be disappointed coming here(though the Coke machines & alcohol might cheer you up a little).

When I want a greasy, no-funny-business kind of burger after a really bad day at work, I go down a few blocks to Steak ‘n Shake to indulge. And when I mean indulge… I mean I get a double cheeseburger, an oreo shake, and a side of their charmingly wilt-y herb seasoned fries. The hords of tourists means no harm to you – they’re just trying to get their burger fix too – so just find a seat as quick as you can, and indulge away without judgement. That delicious milkshake accepts you for who you are and it doesn’t judge you for messing up that statistics report.

Would be 3.5 stars… I remember when I was at FL when I was a kid(in favor of Mickey Mouse), and went to a Steak and Shake twice for the first time. I didn’t have any burgers, but I did have some of their shakes. To me, they were really tasty. I’ve heard about this location. So I said to myself, «Hey, I must try it out». That’s what I did. My old man and I walked in at around quarter to 12pm on a Sunday. With the exception of one patron, the restaurant looked quite empty. As we waited briefly to place out order, we saw someone in the kitchen singing a long to an un-remixed Katy Perry song in the background. That was quite funny. The music they play here is «Top-40» with a low volume in the background(doesn’t quite match to what I listen to today — lol). So after a brief wait with a chuckle, a female worker with a pleasant attitude greeted us and asked what we wanted. We both ordered the two«Original Double Cheese and Fries» with two small, MINTOREOCOOKIESANDCREAM milkshakes. After our order was placed and paid, we grabbed a table with a buzzer. After a 5 – 7 minute wait(whatever), our order came in a huge bag. Well, one thing’s for sure, is that this chain restaurant is known for their steak-burgers. Our original double cheese steak-burgers were made up of two patties, American Cheese, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. I actually ordered mine without the pickles and onions. WOW, this was really good! The patties were juicy and packed with flavor. The included condiments made the taste even better. I really enjoyed my burger, and my old man enjoyed his too. Nothing was burnt here! Of course, a burger meal would never be complete without fries. Do you know when you go to another burger joint, and pay a higher price for a burger that DOESN’T include fries? Well, this is NOT the case here! Any steak-burger you order here COMES with fries! Now that’s a pretty GOOD value. Speaking of the fries, the type that we received was shoestring. It was lightly salted(sea salt or any seasoning costs extra). They tasted really good. Dipping them into ketchup made the taste even better. «Shake It Up!» — This chain restaurant is also known for their, well, SHAKES. They use HARDICECREAM, milk, and appropriate toppings for various shakes. Forget about the watered-down ones blended with ice cubes, because these shakes are thick and creamy. It was just as thick as the ones that I had in the regular FL location. The Mint Oreo Cookies And Cream shake contained mint flavoring, several chopped mini pieces of Oreo cookies, and blended well together with HARDICECREAM. Of course this was topped off with WHIPPEDCREAM and a cherry on top. Everything tasted delicious. This shake counted as my drink along with my meal, and dessert, especially due to the tasty Oreo cookie pieces on the bottom of the cup. I recommend this flavor to anyone who likes mint and Oreo cookies. The floor here is black and white. Some parts of the walls, and the counter around the ordering and kitchen area is bright red. A yellow line was also visible in the restaurant as well. That made the whole restaurant look really good. The place looked clean too, which is a plus. Also, if shakes aren’t for you, they have a Coca Cola Freestyle machine for soda. Okay, so why the 3 stars? Well I had a hard time choosing between a 3 and a 4, but after some thinking, I decided to lower the rating. One, the menu is extremely limited(as other Unilocalers have mentioned). If they make their menu just as lengthy as the one in FL, or just simply add much more variety, then that would have been fine. 2nd, the seating area is very limited. Even though I had no issue finding a spot, this could be problematic for those who want to sit down and eat during crowded periods. Lastly, the hand sensor for the paper towel dispenser in the bathroom wasn’t working as nothing would dispense, and no electric hand dryer was available. So much for drying my hands properly. This place has only one restroom. They also have an area where patrons could buy seasoning and chili. Patrons could sit at small tables or counters to dine. It’s located next to the Late Show theater. Overall, this is a decent place to grab some burgers, fries, and a shake without spending an arm and a leg. I’ll definitely be back one more time whenever I’m in the city for some sightseeing. Cheers!

Had my burger and fries craving going so decided on this place instead of my usual longer walk to 5 Guys on 48th. Ordering was easy, cashier was super friendly and nice and walked me though the ordering process. I got a double cheese with fried onions, fries with cheese and a cookies and cream shake. All of that can to less than $ 10. The place is really small, and the layout makes it appear even smaller. I luckily found a seat after ordering and did some people watching. The burger was really good. Juicy meat, lots of cheese offset with fresh produce. The fries were bleh — thin shoestring type — ok but not my style. The shake was on point and delicious. All in all, good meal, at a really good price. Will definitely be back!

I used to come here all the time. I mean, with embarrassing frequency. As in, I’d hide it from my husband and cover up the lingering scent of mushroom burger deliciousness with mouthwash and perfume. That’s when you know you have a problem. And my problem was the mushroom burger. I loved it so much. And now it’s gone. Everything is gone. They totally gutted the formerly diverse and delicious menu and now only serve regular burgers and the Frisco burger. The regular burger options are so boring. What make Steak ‘n Shake good wasn’t the patties, it was all the delicious toppings and sauces combined in a creative explosion of flavor. So now to just get the patty with tomato and lettuce and pickles and ketchup or whatever is pointless. The different burger varieties used to come with things like bacon, onions, etc. depending on the burger, but now you just have the option to add them for $ 1.50. And of course they’re still serving hot dogs, but I’ll never try one because nitrates in processed meats, like hot dogs, are straight-up carcinogenic. I live right by so I walk by all the time, and do you think it’s a coincidence that this once-packed place has been empty?

Settling on 4 stars instead of 3 because the place is just so dang tasty. The burger and fry deal remains less than five bucks, making it the cheapest and tastiest theater district dinner you’ll find. Problem is, it’s TINY. And usually pretty dirty since it’s always crowded. So good luck finding a table during the lunch or dinner rush. Still, once you sip one of their shakes or pop one of their perfectly crisp shoestring fries into your mouth, all else is forgiven.

I am unsure if there is a local franchise manager or if it the chain is run on a whole, but mistakes have been made. The menu is in shambles. Some of my favorites like the Royale and the Barbecue Bacon no longer exist. What remains of an approximately 10 burger menu is 3. THREE! My personal favorite remains(Frisco Melt), but the variety they once toted is gone. I understand by cutting down the menu they can lower costs, but if they raised the prices of all the items by even $ 1 I’m certain the majority of their clientele wouldn’t mind because they are cheaper anyway. They are still about half the price of Shake Shack. I hope they change back to the old menu sometime in the future, or at minimum bring back some of the old items. The flavors of the burgers and fries are great as always!
