Sur La Table

I absolutely love Sur La Table! This store not only makes me wish I had a kitchen to stores the essentials of the things you would have in a kitchen, but it also makes me want to quit my day job and become a cook! Seriously, what job could be more fun than being a food alchemist! I am a terrible baker, and I want to bake when I come here, I want to own the sharpest knives, and have the cutest party props or serve drinks in their fine glassware.
I first happened to come to this SOHO location over a year ago as I was killing time waiting for friends at the Starbucks across the street (surprised, not really, they are everywhere). As soon as I entered, there was no turning back! I had just traveled and was at an airport lounge and while there, I asked for champagne that was served in a very pretty flute. I remember looking at the brand and made note. Low and behold, Sur la Table had the brand, so not only did I get the 6 flutes; I got 6 red and 6 wine glasses. I threw away all my other IKEA glasses. It was time, and after all, this is NYC, we have no space for so many glasses. Ever since, I have been back probably once a month, just to see what they have and get small things here and there.
This is seriously the best store to find gifts for house warming parties and for those special kitchen items that you need to complete those Food Network recipes. They not only have the utensils and tools, but they also sell interesting food items that you may not find in your regular super markets.
Also, for those people who love coffee, they give free samples to show you how their espresso machines work (free coffee might be a completion for Starbucks).
While not a restaurant or a place for a date, it sure is impressive and I find it to be one of my favorite stores in NYC. Truly…

Sur la Table’s delivery and customer service is THE WORST. I ordered silverware from them and the description never mentioned that there would be a «sur la table» inscription on top of each piece of silverware. I called in order to return the package and they wouldn’t pay for the delivery fees because the item was not faulty!
Later that day, I received my order in full for the second time. Since I am honest, I called in order to let them know so they could get the package back. Given that Fedex was going to come and pick that package up, and in order to reward the fact that I was being honest, I asked whether they could also have the Fedex guy pick up the package I wanted to return, and pay for the associated costs. They refused to do so, telling me that it would have been expected from anyone to be honest and that I should not be rewarded for that. So basically, saving them several hundred dollars on a package they had delivered by mistake did not deserve free return on another package. Call that customer service???
I am NEVER ordering from them again.

There certainly are quality products here, and in an age where people order everything from Amazon, it’s helpful to see the quality and size of some things in person. That said, the service here is pretty much the same as it is shopping on an online site — the nicest person is the greeter/​guard at the door. Everyone else pretends like you’re a ghost, charging through you if they’re in a rush to do nothing — god forbid anything expensive breaks.

So, we all know it’s not a perfect world out there. Mistakes are sometimes made and it’s how we recover from those mistakes, that turns people into heroes. Such was the case with a recent purchase we made at Sur La Table in SOHO. As this is a 5 star review, I will not dwell on the mistake, but instead wish to highlight the recovery.
After said mistake was water under the bridge, Patty the Manager, took over. She informed me that she had recently been appointed from another SLT location and thusly was new to the SOHO store. With that, she set out on the road to insuring our satisfaction and good faith.
One of the most meaningful things she did was to acknowledge that mistakes were made and demonstrate empathy for our situation, which as you know, goes a long way toward making the customer feel understood and unopposed in a scenario that was no fault of their own. Nothing can be more frustrating for a customer, when the burden of proof is laid upon their shoulders and they must then first pull their hair out and pay a pound of flesh to prove their case. There was none of that.
Then, she then made all necessary executive decisions to rectify our situation and although we did not take her up on it, we were stunned when she even went as far as offering to drive to our residence to deliver some items that were missing from our order!
The conclusion is that everything was delivered to our perfect satisfaction and the outcome is that she absolutely and completely did right by us. Not to detract from the more grave situations in the world that produce heroes for the ages, but in the scope of retail, which is something we all interface with daily, She is a hero! Thank you Patty and welcome to the SOHO store. An auspicious start to be sure!

We recently went wok shopping and ended up deciding to get our wok from Sur La Table. Unfortunately the sales people were negatively helpful. Going into it, we knew that we would have to season our wok — the sales people didn’t seem to understand that and kept insisting the «manufacture coating» was the box the wok came in… That does not answer our concerns about removing that coating and seasoning the wok. As a side note, be 100% sure you’ve removed all coating before continuing with the seasoning process. Sur La Table’s wok is great in size and shape but the coating was a bitch to get off — we had to do the process 3x.
Otherwise, it’s a great kitchenware store with some very good deals! Just be sure to disregard anything the sales people tell you. They know nothing about kitchenware and cooking. Do not listen to them. Use your smartphone instead. And be sure to peruse their sales/​clearance rack along the right hand wall when you enter. Great deals on some last chance items for cheap!

I love Sur La Table! They sell everything under the sun for your kitchen. I came into this location hoping that it would be a flagship store and have a lot of items that my local store in Pittsburgh does not carry. Unfortunately, they do not carry any additional items. However, it is still a fantastic store, and I enjoyed browsing around for a few minutes.

Sur La Table is such a cute kitchenware store that is slightly more expensive than Pier 1 or Bed Bath and Beyond. They sell quality cookware and I bought adorable and stylish dish washing gloves when I stopped in yesterday (anything to make washing dishes more enjoyable).
I was perusing the shelves while I was in the store and I fell in love with their selection of Schott Zwiesel champagne glasses. I’m probably going to order them online so that I can have them shipped directly to my apartment, rather than carry them on the subway (they are currently offering free shipping over $ 59 on their website).
The store was selling a lot of fun Valentine’s day inspired napkins and cupcake holders so I’m sure they have great options for every holiday and season! I have a few weddings coming up and I’m definitely going to recommend the brides and grooms register at this store! Très chic!

I went to this location at prime Soho shopping hours on a Satuday during the holiday rush. The knife guy at this location is awesome, super knowledgeable and helpful. Truly a great guy to get knives from, however the process of getting the knife to the counter, paying for it took forever and relied on super slow and eye rolling cashiers who didn’t seem in a hurry, sort of made a fast and efficient $ 200 knife shopping experience suck.

wonderful collections of products. give your dinnerware a style and transform your dining table with characteristics. you can switch from a casual French to a high-​class Chinese dining table in a matter of minutes. you just… need to pay a $$$ bill at Sur La Table.

If I actually knew how to cook or even wanted to cook I would live in this store!
Just an abundance of kitchenware, cooking tools, pots, pans, small kitchen appliances, etc. It’s a chef’s paradise here, for the serious cooks to the home amateurs like myself who pretend they can cook.
This store is packed with items but very organized and nicely laid out. You can pretty much find anything you need here for your cooking needs. It was my first time walking through this place and I saw about twenty things I wanted immediately. Now I really need to learn how to cook.
Whoa! This place will make a serious dent in your wallet so be prepared to hand over your first born here. Some bargains to be found though so shop carefully as they do have items on sale.
Goodbye credit card…

Would not recommend creating a gift registry with Sur la Table, as their online system has many technological flaws and you may receive duplicates/​multiples of the same item (s) as I did. 5 sets of dishware, 4 teapots, etc. Not fun to deal with after the craziness of planning a wedding. Go elsewhere.

When I need to pick up something for my own kitchen or am looking for a wedding/​apartment-​warming gift I like to visit Sur. I’m always looking for an excuse not to visit one of the big box stores (read: Bed Bath & Beyond) and Sur has just about everything those other stores have at the right price point.
There is something very comfortable and homey about the store. The staff is gracious and they’ve always got sales going on. And bonus, for all you caffeine fiends out there, they serve up little cups of coffee and cappuccino while you shop.
Such a delightful store to shop in.

Loved cooking/​baking anything gadget, and this place is awesome! I do find their prices a little high and you can find it for cheaper in places like Target, Crate and Barrel, Marshall’s or even Century 21 and that is why I gave it 3 stars.
I did noticed some things are not price tagged and had to asked for the pricing, especially in the baking area (paper baking cups). If you don’t feel like bargain hunting then you will definitely find what ever you need here!

It was 30 minutes till closing time. I ran, I dashed into the store to be greeted by a super friendly staff member who asked if I wanted help. I said, «Please sir, I need a 7 inch angel food pan!» Mr. Friendly asked if I wanted coffee while he searched. I declined, regretting it a moment later when he mentioned Illy. Of course Sur La Table wouldn’t give out some yuck brand. But as did William Sonoma, Crate and Barrel, Sur La Table did let me down. No pan.
But, the store still merits 4 stars for:
1.Knowledgeable and super friendly staff-​Mr. Friendly did ask me what I wanted the pan for. When I told him it was for a Japanese green tea chiffon cake and I joked and said the Japanese did not supersize, he tried to think of any Japanese stores in the vicinity that would stock the item. Helpful suggestions even if they don’t profit the store makes for good customer service.
2. Ambience like a granny’s warm, inviting kitchen. Careful clutter that used to put me off until I started my baking frenzy. Now I like it better than the polished elegance of Williams Sonoma.
3. A good stock of quality cooking items, from Le Creuset Dutch ovens to pricey expresso machines knives. I think Mr. Friendly cringed when I mentioned Wilton had a 7 inch pan but I couldn’t find it. You get Nordic bakeware here, Caphalon. expensive stuff but it lasts. If you have ever been in llove with a wire whisk the way I love mine you will understand. They do stock Wilton for some items and Wilton can be fine depending on what you buy. Hey, my first cake decorating class was years ago, sponsored by Wilton. I still miss the tips my sisters lost.
4. Fun selection of seasonal, holiday items.
A great store for any cooking enthusiast with a fat wallet.

Awesome espresso – they’re eager to make you a cup of cappuccino or espresso here while you shop – to sell their machines, of course, but there’s no pressure to buy.
They have all manner of gadgets, and I bought a lighter for our gas stove shaped like a golden retriever. It was defective, so I brought it back; I was impressed that even though I didn’t have the receipt – but I’m in the system – they were able to refund me cash. Cheerfully. Yay!
I notice that – like everywhere else – their kitchen gadgets are mostly made in China; I know that’s par for the course, but I really question the made-​in-​Italy prices for items I know I can get cheaper – and do.
Still, I love to browse in this store, and I’ve bought a few items I couldn’t find anywhere else.

I have not compared their prices to Broadway Panhandler or Amazon, so I can’t comment in terms of their overall price point, but the service was excellent. That said, I did find a few good deals on their branded merchandize that was on sale. For people who like to cook, this place is a toy store.
Last time I was in the shop a very sweet young lady prepared a cappuccino for me and demonstrated the various machines for sale. Nice touch. She also went above and beyond to help me find the particular egg mold I was looking for. If you are wondering around Soho, this is a good place to stop in and waste some money.

If you’re a kitchen gadget person, like I am, this is absolute heaven! They have such an amazing selection of gizmos and gadgets. You name it, you’ll find it.
When you walk in the front door you’re immediately greeted by the friendly host and hostess who proceed to offer you free coffee. Very nice. They caught me at a weak moment when I really needed a java fix, so I happily accepted the offer. It’s a great way to get you to walk through the store to find the coffee machines.
I love the selection in the store. They have a huge selection of espresso makers, every optional accessory I could imagine for my Kitchen Aid, and all kinds of other cool gadgets. This was only my first trip to the store so I really haven’t finished exploring yet. The prices seemed reasonable. I love gadgets for the kitchen so this could become one of my new favorite stores to visit.
