Sur La Table

We have been to this store multiple times, I am surprised I haven’t reviewed it yet.
The best way to describe Sur La Table is like a small William Sonoma. The items carried are very similar in brand and price point — definitely not a bargain shop!
They have an abundance of coffee machines, small ovens, cappuccino machines, hot chocolate machines, baking materials and general kitchen knick knacks.
The staff is super helpful and quick to give you a sample of whatever is brewing/​cooking.

A couple years ago I found some cute plates with a design I liked. They are made in Italy. It clearly says Sur Le Table on the bottom. It also says Oven safe and may get hot if placed in microwave. Well, I was saving them for a special occasion and the occasion came Thanksgiving! I put some food in the plate, put it in the microwave, and heated for 1 and ½ minutes. The plate cracked. This is the first time I used it!
First thing I did was look up their return policy. 60 days with receipt! Since I was walking by today I thought I would talk to them and relate my story. I can understand why they wouldn’t honor a return. I saw similar plates in there today that cost $ 18.00. They are having a sale right now.
Bottom line; I found a plate while I was there that says microwave safe. I may go back for that one to give it a try for every day use. The sales person told me he heats his dinner in that particular plate (in the microwave) every night. That did make me feel a little more comfortable with their product. It’s made in Hungary not Italy!
I’m not sure I’ll continue to look for dinner ware in Sur Le Table after this experience. Even some of the items on the shelf have chips off the edges! Be careful shopping in there. I feel you can do better elsewhere!

I’m sure you’ll think I’m a crank, but I was just at this shop and I felt like I was annoying them. I was scanning the shelves for White Cat popcorn kernels and a manager-​type buzzed by. I had to step out of the way (even though there was plenty of room for him to pass). I gave a sarcastic, «excuse me.» and he assured me it was OK.
There was no White Cat, so I picked up the indigo popcorn kernels. At the register I said I was looking for White Cat. The woman there said they must be out. I asked whether they still stock it, she was non-​committal. I tried it another way and asked whether they’ll have some in soon. I was told they get deliveries all the time.
I felt unwelcome; as if I was in the way; and like someone fit only to be ignored.
P. S. if you go on the White Cat popcorn website, it says Sur La Table stocks them. I know they did/​do, too. Can you tell I was unhappy at the poor customer service?

I came here looking for a specific gift and left with exactly what i had in mind and it was a great deal. Of course i ended up getting a few things for myself (how could you pass up chalk board name tags)
As i walked around I was imagining my dream kitchen with all their cute appliances and trinkets for the kitchen. The price is right and they often have sales. What struck me the most was that everyone was so helpful and cheerful making it extra fun to shop there.

I rarely leave reviews. Although today I encountered a very lovely sales rep at sur la table! I was on the hunt for a cutting board which I didn’t think would be such a mission to find being that I was searching for a specific size. Meital which i was told is also known as mei. She was über sweet! Very helpful & patient. Really took her time in helping me find what I really needed. Even helped me in getting a deal! Thanks Meital I hope that more businesses will hire people like you! See you soon!

It’s cluttered, it’s colorful and it sure is fun to shop in. I was on a mission, to find vanilla bean paste for a vanilla buttercream frosting that would do my vanilla cupcakes proud. Amazon had it but alas, a wait. Sur La Table has it, and no wait. Shopping here is like an mini adventure. There are shelves of baking icing, sparkling sugar, muffin pans, cookie cutters and all sorts of baking equipment like blenders, food processors, mixers. You can find everything from pots to plates, all quality brands. The ambience is almost mom and pop, due to a slight disorder that I that I find charming. I came here during the week before Christmas and was enchanted by the displays of Christmas themed items that seemed to be overflowing over buckets and racks. It’s a different vibe than Williams Sonoma, a haphazard ambience that makes it homey. Service is affable and knowledgeable. I was in Fairway looking for cream of tartar. I got many «what???» s. Here they know what Nielsen-​Massey is, and how a real Madagascan vanillan bean can rev up your cupcakes. Shop here on an empty stomach safely. This location is by the Scylla and Charybdis of diets, Francois Payard and Maision Kayser.

I needed a candy thermometer. I now own the Mercedes of candy thermometers. This store is not a good place for people who can either buy all the things or pay their bills but not both.

For anyone who likes to cook, this is definitely the place to visit. They have absolutely everything a kitchen nut could possibly want (minus the groceries). Yesterday I desperately need a cast iron skillet. I never thought finding one would be so difficult.
I went to a few places on the upper east side without any luck whatsoever. I finally made my way over to Sur La Table, and not only did they have exactly what I was looking for, they also had various options to choose from.
This store is loaded with various kitchen accessories … but it doesn’t stop there. There are more knick knacks for the dinning obsessed than you could possibly imagine.
If you need that perfect gift for the foodie in your life, this is the place to go.

I shop at the sur la table in Kirkland, WA, however the only store that had the special sushi knife that I wanted to get for my wife was in the upper east side. Kelly, at store 84(upper east side) went out of her way to personally make sure my purchase was overnight UPS shipped TODAY so it would be here by Christmas… That’s awesome sauce! That is so classy, exceeds all expectations, and is top notch customer service. Thank you thank you, thank you ! Also, shout to Melissa in Kirkland, Christmas for my wife and I would not have been possible if it weren’t for you! Thank you so much and merry Christmas to the sur la table team.

Discovered this place as we were walking around uptown. It’s definitely a good place for someone who does a lot of cooking. We also managed to find an olive oil dispenser we’d been looking for. My husband also got some quality salsa verde here (but it was too hot for me to eat).
The only downside here is the prices since they are kind of high. However, it does seem like you get what you pay for here. They also have some amusing cocktail napkins & we definitely saw things we’d consider buying in the future.

Love this place. They have a lot of cool little kitchen utensils and some great salsas and other sauces available.

We had a wonderful experience at Sur La Table on 3^rd. My fiancée and I purchased an item, used it once, and didn’t realize that it shouldn’t go in the dishwasher. Needless to say we ruined the item! We brought it back to Sur La Table and they gave us a new one, no problem. The staff was so helpful and friendly.

choc-​full of fun kitchen gadgets, as well as necessities such as cookware, flatware, etc (William Sonoma-​esque). everytime i go into this place, i get this feeling that i could be a total domestic superstar and cook fancy meals… though these thoughts are fleeting, it’s still fun to peruse all of the unique items they have. yes, this place is a bit pricey, but the quality’s there, so it’s worth it.

okay, in general, i love the sur la table chain. i go in every december and find really cute stocking stuffers for christmas, and they have nearly every type of kitchen thing i could ever want.
BUT
this store in particular is getting 2 stars from me right now.
why?
because i went in this evening to pick up a gift for a friend. after wandering around the entire store, i finally found what i wanted — and was happy to see that the item i found online was in the store, in a section with similar-​themed items — i even got a second thing to add to the gift.
as i was checking out, i asked if they did gift-​wrapping — i don’t live in the city and thought if they offered it, it would make my life easier. and they do! for $ 5. i’m not used to paying for gift-​wrapping, but i figured why not (again, traveling, looking for something easy). I asked if it was pretty giftwrapping (the gifts weren’t that expensive, so for $ 5 i want to make sure the gift will look nice, and for that i could pick up a pretty bag at CVS) and i was assured that the gift-​wrapping is very pretty. okay, sounds good, i paid for it and they took my items to the back room to gift wrap.
20 minutes late — and i am not kidding, i checked the time on my phone, it seriously took 20 MINUTES she finally brought it back out. the 2 items had been placed in a much larger box (now so large i couldnt fit it in the reusable bag i was already carrying, nor hide it from the friend i was seeing that night) and frankly, it looked horrible. the gift wrapping is brown paper, like a brown paper bag, with a plain purple ribbon. very simple and plain. NOT PRETTY. NOT WORTH $ 5. AND CERTAINLY NOT WORTH WAITING 20 MINUTES FOR IT. i seriously don’t know what took so long, there is nothing special about the package, it literally has CRAPPY BROWN NEWSPAPER WRAPPED AROUND IT.
i am so upset and disappointed about how it turned out, and about the fact that i had to pay for what turned out to be such an awful service! and to be completely lied to by a sales attendant! if you’re going to charge me $ 5 for wrapping, and i ask if it looks pretty, have the decency to tell me the truth instead of LYING and saying it will look very pretty! it has seriously turned me off from sur la table for gifts — i should have gone to williams sonoma just a few blocks down the street.

This location is at its 2^nd year and the first year, the store was a bit disorganized and the staff was nonchalant.
The first year, the store stocked the essentials but had no imagination but now in its 2^nd year, the merchandise tend to have more personality.
I saw a two piglet salt and pepper shaker set which I thought was adorable along with some vintage aprons on sale. Whomever is the merchandise designer this year, definitely has a fun personality!
Kitchen utensils shouldn’t be boring and industrial and all cooks have sorts of distinct personalities and their ware should reflect that.
There are wares coming in a wide range of colors from green, orange, and pink such as the blenders, food processors, and spatulas.
I make my own gravy for Thanksgiving and found a gravy separator which has a nozzle for easy pore and a strainer at the top to separate clumps and fat.
They have fun cookie cutter sets and food decorations to make your gingerbread cookies more appealing.
This year I saw a massive gingerbread house set but I would just stick to graham crackers, vanilla frosting and whatever candy you can pick up at your grocery or confectionery store.
The cooking books isn’t as extensive as it is in other Sur La Table stores nor do they have a kitchen for cooking lessons or demonstrations.
Overall, I enjoy my experience here since I literally spend an hour there.

Ever since moving to the UES, I’ve been paying my visits to this chain to get some inspiration. I’ve been filling my kitchen with some appliances I purchased from here and they have most basic stuff you need. They also sell those ready-​to-​bake packages (i.e. Barefoot Contessa) and pancake/​waffle mixes. It’s kind of like William Sonoma except not as fancy. The convenience of having this one near your apt is worth it just because when you realize you don’t have a spatula, you can always run down to this store and get it… and they have spatulas of all kinds.

Genuinely helpful staff here, who really know the merchandise cold. The store can be a little cluttered, but everything is still intelligently arranged, with the serious bakeware in the back and the more general stuff up front. Some displays are organized by ethnic cuisine, which can be useful.
Basics can be lacking. For example, they carried only a few kinds of measuring cup sets here. A dearth of measuring cups, and yet half a dozen sleek kitchen scales! If you want comprehensive, go to Gracious Home.
I was happy to see that they have the same markdown policy as the SLT’s in the burbs. You will always find some vastly discounted merchandise – most often things like cloth napkins and odd serving pieces, but also more expensive stuff. Worth a peek whenever you’re in the neighborhood.
Even in you don’t cook, there are always cute and/​or odds and ends to spice up a party. Today, I saw mini hip flasks with pop art rants on one side – and tiny funnels in the bin next to them.

«how easy Was that?» … Barefoot contessa… LOVE her and just happened to be walking by SLT’s fabulous window display last week — nice job whoever does the window display because it caught my eye and I am usually not window shopping while I am decompressing from school.
As for Ina Garten («barefoot contessa») and the book signing for her latest release, «how easy is that?» … people were lined up around the building 30 minutes prior — to no surprise. The employees were so nice, all so professional and patient while all of us were tugging at their tails for books and more information. They served THE best hot chocolate I have ever had. It was in a tiny cup, almost like a shot glass of melted Hersey kisses and they served «brownie» cookies by INA as we waited in line. I was so inspired by all the cool kitchen gadgets, cook books, mixers and displays that I am regretful I don’t really cook but there is always tomorrow! That store is incredibly organized — they even have a section towards the front — designated for the QUEEN of the culinary world, Ina herself. As I approached the book signing table, the employees offered to take photos of Ina for us with our iphones and cameras. I looked on my camera after the event and I had four photos!
I just have to say — WELL DONE — the staff here went above and beyond. I bought 5 books, now maybe I’ll start cooking if I can stop going to all these restaurants I’m reviewing!

I stopped in today to see what’s what– I LOVE shopping for the cook I think I am, rather than for the one I actually am.
This store is FULL of fab tools for the home– Le Creuset, Bodum, DeLonghi, Mario Batali, Wusthof, etc. There is A LOT to look at, so set aside some time for your visit.
Sadly, they don’t carry elegant place cards, menu cards or fill-​in invitations. Oh, well.
