Polite and awesome. Spoke to Jake whose courteousness and helpfulness on the phone made buying two bottles of dry white wine a breeze. We spoke to five other wine shops on the phone, all rude and rushed us. It’s amazing to me when stores have an aversion to making money. Thanks to sutton wine shop I was able to send a thank you gift in record time.

Super easy wine buying experience here. There’s a solid selection for the space, plenty of help and lots of deals. A check-​in on the Unilocal app nets you 10% off any regularly priced items and there are probably around 15 – 20 buy one get one half off deals on bottles of wine. Really, who’s going to say no to a second bottle at half price?! Not this guy. Do it.

. An online hub for delivery services here in Midtown East. Ordered two items, not bad. My only issue was the delivery time was about 35 – 40 minutes… I am .12 miles away. I just thought that was a little long. Other than that! Hey! great service and definitely convenient.

I actually took a wines class in college (it was one of the most popular classes for credit and everything!) but I sadly and unfortunately don’t remember much other than the major wine regions and varietals («But shouldn’t you know this stuff?» says everyone). So, I was more than relieved when I walked into Sutton Wine Shop and was greeted and guided towards the perfect bottle for a dinner at a BYO restaurant.
I asked for a medium-​bodied, preferably French red that would work well with poultry and pork. With a twinkle in his eye, the staff member (I should have asked for his name!) led me to the Pinot Noir section and went on a very easy-​to-​understand spiel about the sorts of wines he recommended, as well as some personal stories. He also actually pushed for wines in the $ 15 to $ 25 range, and said that there really was no reason to spend money when a perfectly wonderful wine could be purchased for cheaper.
They have a wide selection of wines and a smaller selection of other spirits. There’s a whole shelf near the entrance that features wines that are «buy 1 get one 50% off». They make deliveries within NYC and will even gift wrap. Online shopping is also available on their website, but the warm helpfulness of the staff is something worth coming in for.

Just moved into the area and Went twice this week and staff was pleasant with reasonable prices. Items were easy to find. Will definitely keep going back!

Found store on google, staff was able to give excellent and insightful suggestions on various wines. Prices appeared reasonable. Spoke with owner or manager, they were out of stock on a wine but offered to call me when it was restocked. Awrsome! I would recommend to others.

Don’t waste your time, or money!
Lie to sell policy… and avoid the «wine bin sales». It is airplane wine although the bald guy in photo recommended. Returned a bottle of wine for them to try. A week later, after hurricane, stopped in and tried to stick with good wines. I mentioned the returned wine in jest at first and then tried to seriously discuss as bald guy was not in a joking mood, and tried to give him 57 years of wine buying experience… only to receive an arrogant attitude that «we were selling wine through prohibition». He was serious.
No one has time or patience to squabble for customer consideration, and customer perspective is not welcomed.
Save your time and unnecessary hassle… AVOID this place.
WINE IS fun and enjoyment… NOT suppose to be stressful to buy, especially in NYC!!!

Nice little neighborhood shop. A little too convenient (if you know what I mean!), as I’ve been popping in for their Thursday and Friday night tastings a bit! It’s fun to try new wines, with a side of education! Their very friendly, NON-​snobby staff know their stuff. I once needed help selecting a high-​end bottle of wine to be shipped out of state. Not only was the selection perfect (turns out the recipient, unbeknownst to me, had a similar collection going), but the bottle arrived very quickly. I’m wondering if someone ran out the door to mail it seconds after I left with my own stash!

Great wine shop with a very good selection of wines to choose from. The owner was particulary helpful in helping me choose a case of Reislings for a special occassion. Would definietly return!

Awful. I walked into the store looking for a recommendation from the ACTUAL owner and he sold me actual crap that he was looking to get rid of. When I brought it back the employees (who are actually very good) they almost vomited when they saw the actual brown, disgusting shit that poured out of the bottle. If you are looking for real help picking out wine I have always gotten good, HONEST help from Crush on 57^th and 3^rd. I would never step foot into this store ever again and would warn anyone to not trust anything the owner has to say as he is positively not looking out for his customers.

I always walked by this location. Got an iPhone recently, and downloaded the Unilocal APP, which I am hooked on! So they have this application that has a function called monocle. If you don’t use it, definitely do so, it is amazing.
Was going to my buddy’s place to catch a basketball game, I was toying around with the Unilocal APP, and saw that if I checked in here I would receive 10% off my purchase which I was more than happy to use as I was going to purchase a bottle of wine regardless.

An event coordinator’s nightmare turned success story:
I was in a really tough spot — I had 18 bottles of white wine from Sherry Lehman for a corporate party, and was shocked to hear from my bartender mid-​party that 15 of the bottles were sour. I scrambled online and quickly found Sutton Wine Shop. I called them, and they were extremely helpful. They took my order and rushed over 6 bottles of chilled wine, at 8:30 at night! The service was great, and even better — the wine was fantastic.

i really think this is one of the best wine shops on the east side. Not only do they deliver, which is a good deal, if you go into the store they have some great value deals where you buy one and get the second 50% off. Not the widest selection in the world, but very solid, they have a nice helpful staff who will offer recommendations based on what you need the wine for. Check it out.

Great selection of wines with a variety of different price points. Found the clerk extremely helpful, and didn’t feel embarrassed when I named my price point as «cheap, between $ 10-​$ 15.» Will definitely return.

This might be a real pop & mom wine shop. I think the owner really does appreciate wine and there is a good selection at all price ranges. Still, the prices are higher than many neighboring shops. For example, I paid $ 24 for a La Crema Chard that costs $ 17 at Crush a few blocks away. So unless it’s late and you MUST have that good bottle, I would shop at Crush or Sherry-​Lehman in this neighborhood.

I love their 2^nd bottle deals — they have very decent wines in the $ 10-​$ 15 range so two for $ 16 is a sweet deal. They are open late and they are oh-​so-​close to me, which is nice. And they do have other deals like «Every Pinot on sale!»
But if you are looking for a specific bottle, I would go to a place with more selection. You will pay a lot more here. Example — needed a Muscadet for dinner once night. This is highest-​produced wine in the entire Loire region — i.e., a bottle that should NEVER exceed $ 9. At Sutton it’s $ 10.99. I also came in here looking for a Gewrztraminer. This wine should have a good range of options but at Sutton they only had ONE type for $ 17.99. I was so annoyed!

The Sutton Wine Shop has been around for years. I grew up with this place, worked here for many years during school breaks, and we were even involved in a bit of a sticky situation (Danny, Lizette, Albert, and me). This place cares about its customers and goes the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of.
I got my mom a monthly wine present for x-​mas the past four or five years. They send a bottle every month with a note about the wine and where it came from and the like. Not many places would do such a thing. They go out of their way to make sure you are informed about what you are buying and these guys know their wine. Dan is a wine expert and will probably be able to help you out for any occasion.
In short, the prices are reasonable, albeit on par with the neighborhood, and the service is unmatched. These guys treat you like you are family. Customer service is in abundance. I miss you guys in CA.
