I rarely give 1’s, as I assume most places(like people) are doing the best they know how. With that being said, this ill-fated excursion went from a mild annoyance to bordering on a health code violation. The ambiance: I walked in, there was a faint odor of an unfortunate stew of stale margarita syrup, a backed up septic system and shame. This should have been my indication to keep moving, but I was on crutches and wasn’t up to finding the next spot. The tables were round micro tables up front and similar in the back just as non-descript. They feature prototypical Mexicana on the walls(sombrero, murracas, you name it) and the occasional neon sign to break up the dank thick darkness that overrides the place. In the corner by the bar, there is a TV on autoloop running — you guessed it — Tequila Chitos in full party mode. Is that an implicit promise of good times? We will get back to that. The Food: Here is where the disappointment really snuggles up and spoons you. I got Huevos con chorizo, basically. I’ve never tasted anything so bland. They literally tasted as if they pulled the chorizo out of a package and threw it in a skillet, then the plate. The eggs I could have made at home. No spices. No garnishes… n’ary a jalapeño anywhere! The only saving grace was the chips and guacamole; even the salsa sucked. I asked if they made a special bloody Mary and was told yes. It tasted like Ragu with a dash of Tabasco and Vodka. I took two sips of it and while disappointed, might have powered through it if not for the fact that I saw the bartender blowing his nose and then making margarita pitchers without washing his hands. I wanted to verify this wasn’t an aberration so I checked this dude out for a while. This behavior was repeated multiple times. At that point I took not one more sip or ate not one more bite. I asked for the check and went up the street to a consistently mediocre chain. Service: They were nice enough but I didn’t even get water. Not that I wanted their influenza contaminated water, but damn, you can’t even offer a brotha?! I got no follow-up on salt/pepper, Tabasco, a reach-around…nothing! Overall, I will do all I can to prevent those I love from taking the same bullet I took.

This place was subpar at best. It wasn’t necessarily terrible, but I won’t be returning. I ordered the super burro and specifically asked for no sour cream, he repeated it back to me, and my food was still doused in, which is annoying. After fixing my order, I just found that the food was very dry and lacked flavor. It wasn’t expensive, so I’m not too hurt, but I definitely would’ve rather spent my money elsewhere. Also– the chips and salsa weren’t that good. My chips were definitely very stale, and once again BLAND.

SODISSAPOINTING, This place used to be awesome and the food used to be delicious… I ordered takeout today and not only was all my food cold my dinner burritos were tiny with no beans or rice inside .My soup was cold and nasty and my fried banana was cold and soggy and my whipped cream was watery! I will NEVER order from here EVER !

Damn nice place for a midnight beer and spicy chorizo tacos. Everyone, patrons and staff, were incredibly nice. Food is top notch too.

This place is mediocre city Mexican food. Everything needs seasoning. I’ll stick to my local outer borough Mexican joints.

Meatball Shop was packed so I ended up here. They never brought us chips and salsa. Other tables had them. I guess they forgot? Waiters grasp of English is novice. I asked for fajitas for no tortillas or rice and he kept saying«only rice? no beans?» No, dude. All beans, no rice. The margarita was good, though.

Worst. Mexican. Food. Ever. Never ever coming back. The waiter barely spoke English, which I don’t have problems with, but he wasn’t even trying to understand what I was trying to say! I was with a few vegetarians, and they ordered the Mexican Pizza; on the menu it didn’t mention meat on it and when the pizza came it had chorizo! Maybe mention this on the menu for potential vegetarian customers? The enchiladas were okay, very bland! I ended up asking for some type of spicy sauce to save me from this bland and tasteless food and the suace ended up being the most interesting thing on my plate. Overall, very disappointing food.

I’ve used Unilocal for about a year now and have never left a review. That being said, this was absolutely the worst dinner experience I’ve had in my life. Food was bad, service was worse, and when we spoke to the manager about it taking an hour to sort out our check he pretty much said go sit down and relax while his fat ass sat at his table and continued to eat the food he ordered. I strongly discourage anyone from eating here. Like I said, worst dining experience of my life.

Oh man. Where do I start. I keep going back here because it’s so damn close. But every time I do it gets worse. Few months ago I go and order the guacamole to start. The dude straight up is using rotten avocados! Right in front of me. When I said something he denied that they were rotten. I’m not that picky and hate wasting food but when there’s more brown than green/yellow in an avocado you don’t eat it. Then I asked for the manager and he reluctantly remade the guacamole using non rotten avocados. Recently went back just for drinks because I figured hey the margs have to be decent especially if I get the fancy tequila. Nope. The margarita mix they use is atrocious. I didn’t expect fresh lime juice as per their standards but come on. This place would be great with new management! It would be so packed all the time!

Drinks are ok but I can count the nachos on my plate. The waiter is argumentative and insisted that guacamole was INSIDE the nacho under the hot cheese. NEVEREATINGHEREAGAIN. HOWCANYOUMESSUPNACHOS? $ 8 for 8 nachos?!?

I don’t know why this place has such low reviews. If I am going to eat Mexican food I feel this place is pretty authentic. I think the low lit basement vibe is a refreshing change from some of the corporate chains and pretension at other restaurants in the neighborhood. The food is good and inexpensive with some good specialist on Margaritas if you go early enough. Sometimes the waitstaff can be a little confused but to their credit — I have ended up with a few free margaritas because of this. Overall, this place has charm and character — something most Chelsea restaurants seem to lack.

Was extremely under impressed by this place. Sangria was one of the WORST I have ever had and my mojito was suuuuper sweet. Service was sub par, our waiter did not seem to know too much about the menu and was not very attentive. We waited a very long time for our check. My food was okay. It grew on me. I got the Enchiladas Banderas which is three different enchiladas(beef, chicken, cheese) with three different sauces(red, green, mole). The beef & red sauce one was just okay. Beef tasted like something you would get from Taco Bell. The chicken enchilada was much better. Moist chicken with yummy sauce. Cheese and mole sauce enchilada was my favorite. The tortillas were pretty bland and soggy though. Would not return.

Sold on their $ 4 frozen margaritas! Not sure you can find a better deal in that neighborhood. The first time we went, the bar was pretty full and we were a group of 4, so they let us sit in the restaurant portion and just order drinks. Munched on chips and salsa and had a great time laughing with our waiter.

Margarita was very nicely blended. Very frothy and just enough kick to experience the tequila fruit combo. Service was nice and we have no complaints. Would definitely come back for happy hour margaritas. Banana is where it is at.

Ate here a few times. It’s very much average, the food’s good, not great, a little bland. The margaritas are only $ 4 for happy hour, but they’re kinda bland also and I don’t think there’s much liquor in them. The service is pretty average and the ambiance is kinda dark with weird, eclectic décor. There’s not really any cheap, good Mexican in this neighborhood for some reason, so it’s kinda all there is.

When I am not able to go to my favorite Mexican place in Brooklyn, I end up here. They have amazing food at a decent price, half off drinks during happy hour, and the staff is very polite. I always order the enchiladas mole because it’s ridiculously good. Most of their entrees come with refried beans, shredded lettuce, and yellow rice. The music reminds me of the good ol’ memories I had when I was on a boat in the Caribbean.

Don’t order from here, even if you have before. They will rip you off. First time I ordered, I got the dinner shrimp salad, and it was awesome. Got 8 — 10 fat, juicy jumbo shrimp, perfectly prepared on a lovely bed of salad, with delicious dressing. I loved it so much, I decided to order the same thing again. Big mistake. This time, they gave me five baby shrimp. Yes, baby shrimp, and yes, I counted(it was hard not to, since there were so few). I literally received five baby shrimp with some iceberg lettuce and a couple of cucumber and tomato slices. To add insult to chicanery, those 5 little baby shrimp were tough and hard to chew. Obviously either frozen or overcooked, or both. For this they charged $ 11, plus tax and tip. That’s close to $ 20 for 5 baby shrimp and some lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Do not get food here. They will shamelessly and arbitrarily rip you off. I actually had to order another dinner from somewhere else because that, «dinner» shrimp salad didn’t even qualify as an appetizer. You might get something good, like I did the first time. Or, you might get blatantly ripped off. Apparently it’s a gamble with this place. So unless you’re the gambling type, stay away. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is that the dinner shrimp salad was so amazing the first time. But who knows what you’ll get? It’s not worth the risk, since they apparently rip people off whenever they feel like it.

Very delicious and cheap happy hour! Kudos to the guy who let us have happy hour prices 20 minutes before the actual happy hour! Their piña colada is so so so good! It’s only $ 5 for happy hour! We got that, a frozen margarita, and a Mexican pizza to share!

Well lets see, What can I say about Tequila Chitos or like my friends call it TQ’s TQ’s has been my second home since 2008. I used to work a few blocks away so every friday I will go there with colleagues and friends to have lunch or dinner or for happy hour. We have had retirements, birthdays, seasonal get togethers and more! However TQ’s has changed a lot thru the years. Décor: it’s the same, a very happy and festive place. With a huge bar as soon as you walk in and mini tables and chairs on the sides. if you want to sit by the bar you must get there before 5pm. Music: they have a jukebox so music is all about the fans Happy Hour: Regular lemon frozen margaritas used to be $ 3 then they raised the price to $ 4, flavor margaritas $ 5 but still one of the best margaritas for happy hour They do offer mexican pizza for free with the purchase of a drink but again you need to get there early, otherwise pizza will be gone. Regular house drinks are $ 6 Food: Quesadillas are good, steak is good, never had seafood at this place but some of my friends say seafood is not this place’s forte so avoid the seafood. desserts are quite amazing, I had the fried banana once and it was tasty! Guacamole is fresh, they bring it to the table and do it right in front of you. They have a back room that is very convenient for private parties, however the back room could be cold on winter time. TQ’s I’m your fan!
