The way I was introduced to this fine business and the experience therein, replicates in real time, the quote above. My wife and I were walking on the upper west side this past week and she said let’s go inside this place. I said, «I have clippers at home my love but okay.» She responded, saying to me, «Your face is rough. I think there is a better way.» Shocked by her comment, we entered the store and we spoke with Louis. He gave me a tour of the product line and an example of how the products work. My wife then asked if she could make me an appointment. The rest is history. Joselito has changed my life for the better. My face has never been this smooth. The conversation was great and I walked out feeling calm but energized. I would recommend every man go to the Art of Shaving and treat yourself to a wonderful experience with Joselito. I can’t wait to see the smile on my wife’s face when she walks through the door. My wife really wanted this for me and it was the best gift ever.

I’m very fortunate to live near the Art of Shaving on Broadway. Master barber Joselito has cut my hair for several years at this location and I’ve always found him to be friendly and professional. Even though I’ve used Joselito’s services for years, he asks me each time how I’d like my hair cut in case my preference has changed. Joselito is a perfectionist and makes certain I’m satisfied at the end of each visit. Together with the consultation, cut/​styling, shampoo/​conditioner treatment and hot facial towel, Joselito offers a truly unique experience and one that I look forward to each month. Given Joselito’s popularity, I recommend any prospective client make an appointment several days in advance since his book fills up quickly.

Joselito is a magician!

John is wonderful, extremely skilled, lovely, everything awesome. He shaved my brother and my husband (both royal shaves), their first straight razor experience, and they both not only loved it but looked SO HANDSOME holy shit.
But Joselito, dude, did you really have to give my family that attitude? I booked my father, brother, and husband for New Years Eve, each for 45 minutes (it’s not my fault if the receptionist overbooked), and this guy told my family that they had majorly inconvenienced him by overbooking.
Listen. Even if I had overbooked them, they came in with gift cards. It wasn’t their fault. Are you really gonna bitch your guests out like that? My dad felt so bad he gave you the $ 15 left on his gift card as a tip. I wish he hadn’t.

Wow the second time in a week. John is a true professional. I would highly recommend getting a shave here. If you’ve never experienced a shave you should not hesitate and try one today!!!

Joselito is Fantastic! Very professional, knowledgeable and has a passion for the Art of shaving. I have had more then one compliment after he has cut my hair and trimmed my beard. I highly recommend the Royal Shave it is very enjoyable process and well worth it! For sure I will be back to book Joselito again and again, so should you.

What an incredible experience! Joselito was an amazing professional who took his time and not only cared about doing his best, but also seemed to take pride in his work. I was also pleasantly surprised at the cost of a shave and a haircut at $ 68. I had been paying $ 70 just for a haircut and my stylist wasn’t nearly as convenient nor professional. The only reason why I gave 4 out of 5 stars was because my appointment was for 11 and had to wait until 11:30 before I got into the chair. It turns out that the scheduler made a mistake which they acknowledged and apologized profusely for it. Meh, it happens. Still I would definitely recommend them and will be seeing them again.

Joselito has amazing barber skills. I’ve been going to him for the past 4 years and is the only person I trust to cut my hair. He’s super friendly also. I recommend him to any guy who wants a super clean cut.

I’m new to the cult of ‘wet shaving’. I;ve taken some baby steps with a few online purchases — shave oil, cream, badger brush and finally, a double edged razor. I liked the ritual and the closer shave (albeit time consuming, and clumsy at times.) But in all my life — and I’m 56 — I’d never had a professional shave. So I decided to take the plunge. I researched Manhattan shave places, from the traditional (Prestige, Barber’s Blueprint) to the trendy (Tommygun and Spiff.) I shied away from Art of Shaving because it’s a ‘chain’ with a lot of slick marketing. But I ended up going to the Art of Shaving because it was more convenient, and they could take me at the time I wanted.
At the Broadway location, there’s a store in the front selling Art of Shaving products, and then in the back a 2 chair barbershop/​salon. I was expecting a gruff,. older barber and was surprised when I was greeted by John, in his late 20’s, who is probably pretty hip in ‘real’ life when he isn’t being a barber in this tonsorial throwback to an earlier era.
It was late morning on a weekday, so I was the only patron. John had an easy banter, and I enjoyed our light chatter (although I shut up when his straight edge was close to my mouth.) I went for the Royal shave + head shave ($ 80 total). It took a bit over am hour. Hot towels, cold towels, multiple passes with a straight edge razor and finished up with a cooling face mask.
Overall, a great experience and the closest shave I’ve ever had. John also trimmed my eyebrows, nose hairs and ear hair. For the rest of the day I just kept rubbing my head and face, feeling how smooth it was. And no nicks or discomfort.
All in all, a great indulgent hour well spent. I wish I could afford to do it every week!
