I stumbled across The Carnegie Club by a buddy of mine that works at David Offs. He suggested the bar to me and I decided what the hell. I had my coat checked and sat at the bar. I did not get charged a cutting fee surprisingly. I ordered a couple drinks and a few beers. I enjoyed this place because no one seemed to bother other people and groups were not loud. Plus the bartender was attentive. Jazz was playing in the background and I was told that they have live performances. Unfortunately, I had dinner reservations and was unable to stay for the performance.

Nice cigar bar and lounge that has hardly any cigar for sale. Overall nice lounge with nice dark quiet atmosphere.

Great place for a chill night. I was in NYC for vacation and needed a place to unwind and smoke a couple cigars. I came in on a Saturday and that was their Sinatra night. $ 40 cover with a two drink minimum on top. So be prepared to spend a minimum of $ 80+ gratuity… if you bring your own cigars. Thankfully, if you go that night you’re foregoing the cutting fee in the price and get a great show. The guy they had singing was fantastic. Pure entertainer. The wait staff had their hands full, but it wasn’t a big deal considering everyone was having a good time. Drinks were average price for a place like this. I’ll probably come back next time I roll into town, but more on a quiet night to see how things are without the party.

We liked it so much we went 2 nights in a row. They have a good selection of nice cigars and liquor. The ambiance is cigar lounge classy and right up my alley. Unfortunately, the Old Fashioned they made was not to my liking, but one of the guys I was with was more than happy to take it off my hands. The server was nice enough to bring me another one. I didn’t necessarily care to have my cigar lit by what appeared to be small kindling, but I can see how others like it. I’m a torch or classic wood match kind of girl. I smoked both the Davidoff 2000 and Montecristo No. 2 Torpedo. The Davidoff was pretty mild with a ridiculously smooth burn. The Montecristo started out a bit peppery but halfway through it became silky smooth. Overall I was pleased with the taste of both cigars. This is a must visit for Cigar Enthusiasts in New York and was within convenient walking distance to our hotel, The London.

Just left without paying for my half finished drink. For the second time in s row it was all blues music all the time because the bartender likes it. I hate the blues but I’ll listen to a few songs. I am a weekly regular andI asked them to play something else but they wouldn’t. The message was clear. A good customer is less important than the bar staff.

A true gentleman’s club. And I mean that strictly in the complete opposite conceptualization of an actual gentleman’s club. The Carnegie Club is one of the few — if not the only — place where New Yorkers and tourists can smoke inside. A real personal favorite of Michael Bloomberg’s, I’m sure. I can only imagine what the Club has to pay the City to stay in business. The best part is that, while they do overcharge exorbitantly for cigars, they don’t assess a cutting fee if you BYOT(bring your own tobacco). Great jazz music, great service, and an even better ambiance. This place is an institution.

If you want to have a cigar and listen to music, this is your place. It is a friendly crowd. They may even have food… not sure.

I was nearby after a long & tough day but had heard this place was worth a visit. I got one of the house sticks & a couple of whiskeys and completely unwound. Not a cheap evening but a very enjoyable one if you enjoy cigars & fine old Men’s Clubs or libraries! Comfortable seating, private enough to have a serious chat. In jeans & a collared shirt I was underdressed but not asked to leave. Unfortunately I didn’t make the popular Sinatra Saturday’s which is supposed to be excellent & I’ve also heard they have some good live Jazz musicians passing through but not on a Monday night apparently.

Really amazing cigar lounge. Stopped in after work with several colleagues from the office and just upon entering the place it looks upscale. Don’t expect a huge walk-in humidor looking for your favorite smoke because this place is limited to a very, very small selection of over priced cigars from a menu they provide. Cigar prices were expenses in that if you picked a cigar that cost $ 15 at a cigar shop, at Carnegie you can expect to pay double that price. But let’s put that expensive cigar price into perspective, the lounge really is beautiful so I simply considered the extra cost of my stogie the VIP seating price to be in such a wonderful lounge. What I love about Carnegie is that they put the price of admission into the price of the cigars. Sure there is not a blatant admission price paid but even if you bring your own smoke you pay a cutting fee which essentially is the price of admission. I think the extra cost is worth it to enjoy a nice relaxing smoke in a really nice environment where seating is comfy. There is no VIP exorbitantly priced membership fees to pay. I’m really a fan of this place. Drinks are overpriced like every other bar in NYC so no surprise there but overall a really, really wonderful place. They did have a disclaimer on menu with price minimums but unless you’re trying to be super frugal you will very likely meet minimum purchase standards easily. For the frugal minded, I’d skip this place.

Old New York… Sinatra…Champagne and Cigar Smoke, what more could you want? It was not until we left this place did I remember what it was like to go clubbing when I was a young whipper snapper… lol I remember washing my hair and getting all dolled up only to come home smelling like cigarettes when they used to allow smoking in clubs and bars… and immediately having to jump into the shower otherwise my sheets would smell like smoke. This place is JUST like that. LOL but worth it since it’s not an every day thing. Go for the Sinatra show on Saturday. The guy sounds just like him… it’s $ 40 per person cover. Sucks but it’s all for the ambiance. It’s a great time!

Really pricey cigars with an extensive selection of scotch. I loved the jazz band that was performing that evening. I felt like I went back in time and brushed shoulders with Don Draper. I can’t wait to come back. Its a good place for a mellow evening to enjoy a drink.

What a find! I did a quick search for a bar to kill time before an event, and I couldn’t believe what I walked into at Carnegie Club. A mid-century cigar bar with relaxed and cordial guests, attentive staff, and all the quality of a high-end club but with cordiality instead of snobbery.(New York Yacht Club, eat your heart out.) I wish they had available copies of the Times and interesting books on the shelves instead of decorative, but it’s easy to make friends who can help you out if you need a cigar and conversation. An old-fashioned is pretty pricey, but it is midtown, and the drinks are still top notch. I love the décor when so much of Manhattan is going modern and as another reviewer said, it’s the perfect place for Sinatra. I wish I’d been in town long enough to stay for the jazz show, but next time I’m in New York, I will be back.

I believe I went on a Monday, felt like a cigar and whiskey before I went to dinner elsewhere. Nice ambience, very laid back(might also be because it was slightly early for a weekday). A great place to sit and enjoy a moment away from the busy city outside.

Had a brief gather together with a group of friends here. I indeed enjoyed the décor, with bookshelves around; however the smell inside was a bit weird(as it is a cigar club)…the live jazz inside made this place relaxing yet not too overwhelming. Wine/liquor selection was excellent and I ordered one of their specialties strawberry southside. Overall It’s a nice experience and will be back for sure.

Several excellent recent experiences and one mediocre one. On my latest visit during a late Thursday afternoon, service was terrific. Quick, attentive, and knowledgeable. The cloak room attendant, the door host, and my server were all friendly and welcoming. Later that night, however, I came in again around midnight and service was pretty slow. Service was also very good during my previous visit on a Sunday evening. A big improvement over the visit before. Nice soft chairs and loungers. Refined décor with bookshelves along the side. Okay but not great cigar list with a very high markup. You are probably better off bringing your own. Good selection of single malts. My very first visit the service was very disappointing. Nobody welcomed me when I came in. I had to ask twice to get a cigar menu at the bar. Bottom line: service tends to be hit or miss.

One of last places in NYC to smoke indoors and get your drink on. ProTip: Del Frisco is 10mins away. Get your steak dinner, then come here. I love the coat check girl in a little black dress and pearls, 100% coquettish. A great welcome indeed. I felt welcomed. I scanned the room and it was classic, wood paneling, leather chairs, dim lighting. think man cave in the 50’s. The cigar selection is small. They have about 10 – 15 on the menu, and you’ll find the Davidoff, Dunhill, Padron Anni and some Fuentes. Prices are high. I would advise bringing your own if you know what you like. I did not bring my stash, so I opted for the Padron 3000. It was kept in the right conditions, smoked wonderfully. The bar and service is good. Not fantastic as they are a little understaffed. You may have to hail them down. The bar is well stocked. Plenty of whisky, cognac and adult beverages. I think we drank all the Macallan…12, 18 and 25 that night. The downside is the ventilation. Good lord. Please do something about it. Visibility was 20feet. talk about a smoky bar… Well, I exaggerate,. visibility was maybe 30 feet… I wished they would open the door and let the air in. Bottom line, this is NYC and this is one of the few places where you can light up, smoke and enjoy your evening.

This is not the first time I have been at The Carnegie Club. Came here for a small social event on a Thursday night again. I really like this kind of atmosphere. I don’t like the atmosphere so much because I enjoy smoking(I don’t smoke cigarettes) or because of the the fumes of smoke from the neighbor next to me but because I am a connoisseur of an occasional good cigar. My personal humidor stocks some decent, aged and no longer manufactured cigars. That’s why I can appreciate the burning fumes of something aged and crafted… a cigar. I’m not even much of a liquor drinker. I like this atmosphere for it’s aged brown or maroon on wood look, it’s dim inside with lighting in the right places, simple in that there’s no wow factor for patrons and that it reminds me like a place old mobsters, businessmen or politicians would hang out. Well sort of. Everything was nice about the place, even the staff and servers. The truth and what should be expected or the opposite of what one might highly expect is that the menu for cigars is not going to be best of the best, more like mid market, aged and not available everywhere brands. They have aged and unavailable mid market brands from Davidoff, Romeo and Julietta, and Padron. And they are charging about four times the retail cost but like all service lounges, you should know the upped charges that comes from a nice venue. I didn’t say bad cigars but not top of the line cigars. Other than a bit of criticism on price and selection I like The Carnegie Club for it’s relaxed manner in creating an old world sophisticated style. That is if you don’t mind the price and the second hand scents.
