This is a beautiful church filled with lovely art. The music at the Sunday service is gorgeous and, in quieter moments, it is a sanctuary for quiet meditation. Ascension is located at the edge of the NYU campus and we have discovered that it welcomes students and visiting relatives. The building may seem imposing from the street, but inside you will find a warm and welcoming community. Ushers greet you, show you a seat if you like, and are happy to answer questions.

Yes, it’s a historic church with great music and beautiful liturgy, but it’s also a congregation full of quirky and smart and interesting REAL New Yorkers, and that’s the best thing of all. The Village is changing in ways some of us mourn, but this place retains the best qualities of real New York urban culture. You’ll see when you visit.

Had no idea about their famous Voices of Ascension choir until I arrived, but it was a treat. Stunning architecture. Would definitely come back again for a choir performance.

This historic church has an extraordinary services year round, but especially on feast days and holidays. EVERYONE is welcome to visit and experience this joyful place, hear wonderful sermons and music. Services: 9am Holy Eucharist in All Saints Chapel; 11am Holy Eucharist in the church with sermon and music; 7pm Service of Meditations and Sacrament including chant, interfaith readings and communion. Prelude on Sunday mornings at 10:45am and postlude after the service on The Manton Memorial organ.
