The Conservatory Garden

Maybe it was the winter day that made this place kind of drab. The fountain wasn’t on but the statue in the middle was nice. There are some hedges and there are some trails and small hills you can jog on. However it’s not really an attraction per se. I can see how this would be a nice place to visit regularly to walk the dog or job if one lived in the area.

A secret marvel of central park! Not many people sadly don’t know about it. Its so wonderful in the spring.

So So SOOO beautiful.
This place is always well put together and gardened for every season.
There are people sitting, tourists, photographers observing the plants, a proposal is happening near a fountain.
Very worth it to see, although not one of the most popular places due to how it’s a bit removed from the middle of everything.

Shhh… it’s a secret. Don’t tell anyone. Spring strolls here, meaningful conversations on benches under the shade of tree lined pathways, and a fountain that looks straight out of Monet’s garden (and I’ve been to the real thing). Go here. Fall in love with couples taking wedding day photos along with their wedding party. Climb up and surround yourself in vines of leaves and, when you feel depleted and jaded from New York… this place will keep you enchanted.

Really a gem of a quiet place to retreat from the hustle bustle of the City. The Conservatory Garden is located at 5^th Avenue and 105^th street. Open daily from 8am until dusk. The Conservatory Garden is free from runners and bicyclists. Opened in 1937, the the Garden was designed by Gilmore D. Clarke. Take a leisurely stroll in its six acres. The garden has three parts with different styles: English, French, and Italian. Enter through the Vanderbilt Gate, once the entrance to the Vanderbilt mansion. In the English garden, find the magnolia and lilac trees and a statue of Frances Hodgson Burnett. The Italian garden has crabapple and yew trees and a lovely fountain. The French garden is full of tulips and has Walter Schott’s sculpture, Three Dancing Maidens.

Moving is such a drag*. It takes weeks, makes you ask a ton of your friends (and of your relationship with your significant other), and for what? Well, I guess for a place like this; in this particular case my move (however painful — miss you already Brooklyn), paid me back with a few perks.
When I first heard that we would be seeing a place next to Central Park, I figured it would be nice (who doesn’t love a walk in the park), but nothing overly insane. I mean a park is a park right? Wrong, oh so very wrong of an assumption. Some parks are, well, better than others and the conservatory is amazing. Walking through Vanderbilt gate (a guy actually unlocks this in the morning — I want to see what the key looks like), you find yourself transported to a park hidden inside a park. With flowing fountains and groomed walking paths, the park is sculptured with angles and elevations that are laid out so spectacularly that they make this oasis in Manhattan feel truly grand; this place would do very well in Paris, no doubt about it. The best part of this park for me, is that it takes you out of the craziness of the city to a more tranquil place. You can truly relax here, and forget about your surroundings or the stress of the day. If you’ve never had a chance to check this place out, and happened to find yourself in the north side of the park, absolutely stop in.

The Conservancy Gardens are a must see in Central Park. This is another of my stops on my city tour for out of town guests.
The time to come is when the flowers are blooming. The fountains are beautiful. It’s close to the lake where there is fishing. Close by is Museum Mile.
I do like to sit here. At the same time l am afraid too. The bees are really prevalent in these gardens.
On a spring or summer day you might see a photographer or two with wedding parties!
It’s a nice park to visit, take pictures, and then move on! If you work in the neighborhood it’s good to bring your lunch and sit. Just watch out for the bees!

My NYC hideaway in Central Park. Love this serene beauty. One of the NYC best kept secrets. Awesome place for photographers and the outdoor enthusiast. A must visit!

One of, if not, the best places in Central Park!
Logistically, this is a hike for most New Yorkers; however, it is well worth the journey if you’re in the area or looking to adventure.
The conservatory is accessible from 5^th Avenue at 102^nd Street (requires you to walk north once in Central Park to the south entrance), through the Vanderbilt Gate (which is across the street from the El Museo Del Barrio), and 106^th for the north entrance. As a UES resident, I get there by entering Central Park at East Meadow (across from Mt. Sinai) and walk north — making sure I don’t veer too far west.
Once inside the conservatory, the gardens and fountains are absolutely stunning. You are surrounded by beauty in a peaceful setting, as the location of this attraction doesn’t draw the crowd it rightfully deserves.
I highly recommend coming here and can’t wait to go back!

what an awesome place! when you become older you you begin cherish peaceful life and begin to enjoy the nature. I’m exactly such person and love parks where nature is. like conservatory garden very much for feeling my soul has there.

The only formal garden in Central Park is composed of three distinct «rooms.» The central lawn where one enters down a set of steps features a fountain and up above an arbor of wisteria (beautiful in the spring); to the right is a space formerly a rose garden which now revolves around a knot of geometric seasonal plantings; to the left is a formal flower garden with a small pond featuring water lilies in season. Allées of old crabapple trees separate the three parts. The garden is fenced off from the rest of Central Park and locked after dusk; steps are required from the main entry, but it is accessible by walking a bit north and entering from the Park. There are facilities.

There was a time I spent a lot of time in the Hospitals near here. I was there for a friend, and as a result spent tons of time walking around these marvelous gardens. It was a long illness and so I saw 4 seasons pass thought here. I cannot say enough good things, because it simply was awesome to be able to sit here and collect my thoughts in the Spring, Summer, and Fall, and to walk around in the Winter. The benches are perfect, its never that busy, and the most noise is the occasional gardening tool. That noise is ok, because they keep it beautifully manicured and tended.

This place is breath taking. I wandered in one day and then returned for a formal tour (free). It is beautiful, peaceful and very well maintained.
What the garden looks like today is a testament of the hard work the conservancy does. #Bravo
I recommend the tours, ours was done by the woman that has managed the garden for 20 years. She was extremely knowledgeable, although distracted by the weeds! Hahahaha

First time here from recommendation. Walking in the south garden, this became my favorite place in central park. If you are looking for tranquility or just a walk with love ones, this is the place to come!

Beautiful walk in the park with a relaxing atmosphere. I come here for my lunch hour sometimes to escape my boring routine walk. I recommend passing by if you are near. El Barrio museum is also just one block away.

It’s in Central Park but nobody is in there (obviously this is relative). A place to get some peace and quiet when the place that’s supposed to do that (Central Park) is too crowded with summer tourists.
It’s always free.
Clean bathrooms and water fountains are available.
The main entry is on fifth and 105^th but there are plenty of other entrances.
If you are at this part of Central Park is definitely worth meandering in.
However if you’re twenty blocks away… Probably not.

Everything about The Conservatory Garden is grand. It’s not gigantic in the same way as some of the sections of Central Park. Instead, everything about it feels like it was designed to impress. First, to enter you walk through tall metal gates. Then you are at the top of a staircase greeted by a wide open lawn with a fountain in the distance and bushes creating a border around it. It’s a sweeping and impressive opening number in a symphony of colors, beauty and plant life. This of course focuses on the warmer seasons, I have not been to it in the winter.
No matter which direction you go, there are tons of gorgeous flower, bush and tree arrangements to behold. There are small sitting areas here and there, but for the most part your feet will probably drag you from one beautiful sight to another.
What’s interesting is, there were *tons* of people there the day I went. It was sunny, flowers were everywhere and it was mid-​afternoon. However, at no time did I feel crowded. Everyone maintains a respectful distance, careful not to damage any of the plants. Photographers were very kind about staying out of each other’s way. Something about the serenity of the environment seemed to have a strong effect on the people there, and it made for a lovely environment.
I definitely recommend visiting The Conservatory Garden at least once. You won’t regret it — especially in the warmer months!

Gorgeous in the spring, peaceful in the fall, mysterious in wintertime (especially under the snow), This is a wonderful gem. All right, some people think it’s cheesy because of the huge amount of weddings celebrated here, but there is a reason couples choose this place for such celebrations. Go early, or later in the afternoon.

If Central Park were Manhattan’s green oasis, the Conservatory Garden would be the water. This garden is not only Central Park’s must-​go attraction but should also be your top destination of a NYC tour! Here, you will find a beautiful, three-​sectioned gardens, each section with its own theme.
Prepare your best camera and get ready to be dazzled by the floral beauty this garden offers! You can easily reach there either via the subway line «6» at 103^rd or 106^th St. stop or the M4 bus toward the Cloisters.

This place is like a fairy tale. I’ve always dreamed of getting married here since I was a little girl. Talking about a picturesque scene! NYC is filled with little gems like The Conservatory Garden but this one always took my breath away.
I think the surrounding area/​neighborhood gives this place even more character.

Was here for a charity event for the Central Park Conservancy. The space is great. Very well kept and it’s a quiet oasis where you can sit and relax as long as you want.
No tourist here, which is nice. Unless there happens to be a private event, the place is usually pretty empty!
Right across the street is the Museo del Barrio, which is one of the lesser known museums on 5^th ave.
Overall a great place to enjoy a quiet afternoon in the park.
