I grabbed brunch here and selected the kartoffel, rullepølse and frikadellar as part of my platter. Enjoyed the frikadellar and kartoffel immensely. The rullepølse was good, but I’d probably swap it for a herring or salmon dish next time. Cocktails ain’t cheap, but they are strong. Nope, this place is not exactly inexpensive, and I totally believe that there are small portion dishes, but that wasn’t my experience here. I had so much food on the table! If you’re looking for a bigger bang for your buck, they’re pretty generous with the frikadellar portioning(and, c’mon, who doesn’t love frikadellar?). Brunch came with skyr(thick yogurt with muesli… so good, I wanted more), two slices of hearty bread, a small muffin and a hardboiled egg — the latter of which are pretty common breakfast items in Denmark. All of this, plus two strong aquavit cocktails, for $ 50. Really. that’s not too bad for a Tribeca brunch. I couldn’t eat it all, even though I desperately wanted to and tried my hardest. Can’t win ‘em all, I guess. Scandinavian food is sorely underrepresented in this lovely city, and, being Danish, this place filled the emotional void I was experiencing after realizing I hadn’t had any remoualde in over a year(gasp!). And although nothing beats mormor’s cooking, this place hit the spot. I can’t wait to go back and get the citron fromage and leverpostej. Skål, y’all! PS — my waitresses were lovely and attentive!

Wow. I must say that beef cheek burger I had was amazing. I couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks. The atmosphere of The Copenhagen was very chill/modern. The drinks are very good. They have a old fashioned on there as well. The waitress was very helpful especially explaining to me when she was younger she did not like herring, but now she did. Definitely made me want to try something a native would want to eat. I always trust the opinions of a native. Especially with a story like hers. Cheers! Enjoy the food and be merry!

This review is based on 4 visits. First time I visited, this place was still Aamann’s NYC. As a native Dane and a smørrebrøds connoisseur I had high expectations, especially because Adam Aamann’s restaurant in Copenhagen is terrific. I was disappointed. A couple of things were good, especially the filet of fish but also the cheese plate. The leverpostej was passable but the flæskesteg was extremely disappointing and the crackling wasn’t crisp at all(= total no go). The beer was good. Low life from Evil Twin, but still strange that they didn’t have a bit of variety. Especially with the pork I would have liked the option of a darker beer. All their snaps are homemade which is admirable, but unfortunately not very good. We had their«rugbrøds» snaps which didn’t match the food at all and the cranberry snaps which unfortunately tasted like it sounded. The second time I visited, I came alone. The winter was brutal and I wanted to treat myself to something nice on a Sunday. I didn’t have a reservation, but the place was half empty. So far so good, but alas, they didn’t serve lunch ??? they served brunch! As if there wasn’t 10.000s of places in NYC who serves this ridiculous oh so 80’es and f… retarded combination of two perfectly good meals! I considered renouncing my Danish citizenship as I fled the place and found a bar instead … Third time I brought a good friend but the result was a bit like the first time. I don’t remember exactly what we had, but I do remember that we were slightly underwhelmed. Fourth time was a disaster. I brought a colleague with some of his family for dinner. On their website, their dinner menu looked OK, but when we arrived none of the items on the menu matched the website. Well, the web-site mentioned that items were subject to change due to seasonality, so I guess this was burger season. There four mains were a burger, a steak, lammefrikasse and the Danish traditional dish of the day, hmm. I asked about the traditional dish which turned out to be three pieces of smørrebrød with a possibility of adding a serving of heering. I choose the smørrebrød and heering. Heering was good, the rest was bad. The accompanying cumin snaps was disgusting.

I only stopped by for a couple of drinks, so I can’t comment on the food. Looked at the menu — starters were a bit too Danish(unusual) but the entrees seemed OK. Not a big space. décor seems Danish modern. Maybe twelve seats at the bar. Bar had a surprisingly small selection of spirits. Bartender was nice enough.

I was taken here for the first time last night for Valentines day and it was an eclectic, filling, amazing tasting menu. Perfect portions, presentation, service, and balance with top notch ingredients and interesting merge of Danish modern gastronomy with world influences. The free starter sourdough bread and the spread blew my mind before we even got our Aquavit. I recommend the Aquavit flight. The fennel complimented the soup & fish while the Sea Buckthorn was sweet and tangy and a great compliment to the amazing baked goods, meat and dessert. Lemon grass Aquavit had a little Vodka heat to kick it up. Looking forward to going back and trying some other drinks and the regular menu. They were open to swap foods out in the course if you have food intolerance and I had an amazing Spice cake instead of a cheese and fruit. Also, the art loft feel is really nice.

Thanks to the Amazon Voucher program my wife and I went to The Copenhagen and what a treat! On Saturday at 6PM there were only a few tables occupied so the noise level was very low. I had the cocktail made with beet infused Aquavit with licorice and lemon — I loved it. My wife took the 2 course option with leek and potato soup — very good and duck confit — excellent with crispy skin and tasty, most meat. I had the pâté and the pork chop — again both excellent. The chop was a nice thick one, cooked perfectly — light pink and tender served with crispy greens and pickled mushrooms on top. The accompaniments on the plate are imaginative and very tasty as well. For desert I had the bread pudding — very unusual preparation and very tasty. The service was very good and unobtrusive. The only issue is access by car and parking. There are too many one way streets around the restaurant — we parked a few blocks south and walked to it. BUT, the A, C and E subway entrance is less that one minute away at the corner by the Maserati dealer! Will take subway next time. We will visit again with friends.

As a regular costumer who’s never been disappointed I was very excited to try out their new brunch menu on Saturdays. I went there last saturday and everything was amazing. I had the brunch platter with 5 different things and my partner had the omelet and the waffle. Everything was fresh and prepared to perfection and beautifully presented. Service was fast and attentive and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. I’ll give this place my warmest recommendations

There are a lot of good restaurants in NY. This place has the slowest service. It took 40 minutes to find someone to take our cards, and the food was either too salty or too sweet. Nothing was hot. We ordered the veal, soup, celery root, and confit. All of them were not particularly good. The veal was veal fat. Gross. Waste of my time and money. This place is my first one star review.

AREYOUSERIOUS??? This restaurant reminds me of what Mark Twain famously said about Wagner’s music… «it’s not as bad as it sounds». The same can be said about Copenhagen… the food is not as bad as it tastes —(it’s pretty damn lame). For the life of me, I cannot see how people give a place like this an «excellent» let alone a «very good» rating unless a) they’ve been paid off, b) the restaurant has stacked the deck with favorable reviews, c) the diners wouldn’t know good food if they ate it or d) all of the above. Our experience here was anything but favorable. First, the décor seems right out of IKEA, which means that the ambiance is less than warm. Second, the evening we were there, temperature in the restaurant was downright cold(it was 25 degrees outside) and they couldn’t turn the heat up(or on for that matter) because the heat is controlled by the Tribeca Cinemas who is apparently the landlord. Of course, our server was both apologetic and admittedly helpless but here’s an idea, if you can’t even control the heat in your very chic and trendy restaurant how about spending a few Krone and buy some space heaters so your patrons don’t have to wear their overcoats during the meal? And let’s talk about that meal for a moment, can we? Our appetizers were the house made Gravad Lax(two see-through slices of salmon with some miscellaneous garniture) and a pork liver pâté, the latter of which proved to be the ONLY thing worth eating in the restaurant. Giving credit where credit is due, the liver pâté was tasty… very tasty. The rest of the meal … not so much. The celeriac entrée sounded tempting as we love celeriac and envisioned a mélange of different celeriac preparations(i.e. shredded, mashed, baked, boiled) only to be presented with a rather meager serving of mashed celeriac in the center of the plate, some baked and largely indistinguishable from a potato portions of celeriac with baked miatake mushroom slices placed atop of the whole thing. This is a joke, right? Danish minimalism at its best perhaps? The kitchen staff forgot to put food on the plate perhaps? We were being punked perhaps? The portion was barely enough for a side of vegetables under normal circumstances; but for an entrée? Like holy crap, did we just fall into some lesser known Hans Christian Anderson moral tale about lowering your expectations? The duck breast(another favorite of ours) equally failed to deliver on its promise. Three or four thinly sliced portions of duck breast served on top of the oddest tasting red cabbage preparation we’ve ever encountered and several cipollini onions, The serving of duck was quite honestly appetizer sized and was, in any event, shared because the celeriac entrée was barely enough to whet the appetite. The duck was bland and lacked the richly flavored duck meat«umami-ness» we’ve come to associate with this cut of meat. Plus, because of the cold temperature in the restaurant, the meat, red cabbage, the onions and indeed, the plate itself rapidly chilled. If I wanted cold duck, I would have ordered a bottle of it. While we paid for a three course menu, quite frankly between the frigid temperatures, the tiny portions and the largely absent waitress/hostess who also doubled(or is that tripled?) as an occasional bartender, after two courses, we left ! We were disgruntled, cold to the bone, hungry and about $ 165 lighter. This was, of course, having to wait over 15 minutes to have the check dropped. For all the people who love this place, we suggest you get out more often. To the restaurant, we say«turn up the flavor, turn up the portion size and while you’re at it, turn up the goddamn heat !»

InExtremely interesting menu, with well balanced flavors. The liver pâté is out of this world. No way anyone can say they are eating liver. Plus I loved the mustard that came with it. The bread that was provided was simply excellent. The soup appetizer is so different and tasty. The Duck entrée was soo nice and the fish… wow perfectly cooked and seasoned. Just fantastic! Try their house infused snap, it’s excellent. The ambience is very modern, somehow Ikea like, but it definitely works! Great experience overall!

I’m not sure I would have come here, if I had not been to Denmark and had a fabulous time. I enjoyed the open sandwich smorrabrod I had there, so when I returned, I started searching, and found The Copenhagen. I realized I had passed by before, but the sign outside referencing herring threw me off, as did them menu. I visited the restaurant and loved the food! Had the havarti and the potato smorrabrod. I was just going to have one but the server recommended two and I’m very glad she did! The friakdeller(meatballs) that I tasted was also yummy. Liked the modern design. Came for bunch on Saturday and it was pretty quiet. Will definitely be back.

Lovely clean and sleek place branched off from a restaurant in Denmark apparently much different. It was very tasty but very pricey for a slice of rye bread with cheese for instance. The chicken dumpling soup was delicious with the addition of house pickled carrots, but portions were so small do not arrive hungry! I would give this 3.5 if I could because the food tasted so good.

Just gave Copenhagen another visit; been here now a handful of times. It’s a really enjoyable meal, although it can feel a little pricey. The plating is beautiful, and I love the option to have something different, tasty, and light. We will usually order a variation of smørrebrød, and it doesn’t seem like a lot when it comes out but I always feel so content with the meal when I’m done. A consistent favorite is the curried herring. The beef tartare is usually good, I’ve enjoyed the Danish meatballs, pâté, and the chicken salad on a grain waffle. The menu changes here and there. The cocktails are really refreshing also, but they’re just too pricey for me to want more than one. $ 11 The space has high ceilings and is very minimalist yet warm. It’s not an overly crowded place, and feels like an escape from the craziness, if just for the meal. Great place to check out.

It has been a while since I have had such an indifferent dining experience in New York. Maybe I have high expectations, but I gotta call ‘em like I see ‘em. Here goes… 1) Service was POOR. It was EXTREMELYSLOW. We sat down for almost 20 minutes before she came over and asked for our drink order and we were making it very obvious that we were ready to place our drink order. In the end we actually had to call her over. I understand if you’re one waitress that’s overwhelmed, but when you’re one waitress that’s just not paying attention, that’s just sad. On top of that, she was unapologetic. Another major red flag– when she took our order for steak, she never asked us how we wanted it done. So, I guess if you’re going to order steak, make sure you speak up about how you want it done otherwise you may not get asked. 2) Décor was fine. The ceilings are high which makes voices carry. That paired with the fact that the restaurant was virtually empty made our quiet voices echo a lot. ALSO, the bathroom was out of order and the«alternate» bathroom that they had was out of paper towels and the toilet flusher was broken. GROSS! 3) Food took FOREVER to come out. Our meal was one shared appetizer and two entrees and our meal took almost 3 hours. I’m with everyone else on the small portions. The taste was okay– nothing to write home about. At least it was hot, but who wants to evaluate their meal based on the temperature?! Usually I would try a place twice before reviewing, but I guarantee you that I won’t be back. Avoid if you can. There are too many great places to go in NYC to deal with this kind of service and food. p. s. they didn’t have steak knives so we had to cut our steak with a butter knife. This might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back(I bet you thought it might have been the bathroom situation, but it was the knife) :)

Small food portions but uniquely named and flavorful. I think the best part of the meal was the bacon and hay, the bread basket, and the house made Aquavit(specifically the pear and vanilla flavor). Good place, beautiful presentation of food, and clean, modern ambiance.

My recent exposure to Scandinavian cuisine has been positive across the board, so I entered Aamanns-Copenhagen with high hopes. The menu seemed solid — focused, compact, and well-organized — and the overall positive ratings seemed promising. A group of friends decided to hold an impromptu brunch here, so I headed over to this convenient area of TriBeCa on a weekend afternoon. First, the décor is fairly unique, even for NYC. The entire interior is almost bleached white and appears even more whitewashed in the daytime thanks to the plethora of windows across the perimeter of the room. There’s a good variety of seating available, suitable for groups both large and small, and tables and chairs can easily be rearranged. On the weekend afternoon I entered, I was surprised to see that most of the seats were still empty, despite the fact that it was prime brunch time. It was, unfortunately, a sign of things to come. A friend and I decided to split their Winter Lunch Menu, which offers a variety of bites that cover most sections of their menu. It was a decision partly influenced by the fact that none of us were familiar with most of the dishes or ingredients listed. A few notes on the items we got to sample: — Pickled Herring: We were able to try the Mustard Herring as well as the Pickled Herring with Curry and Ginger. The Mustard Herring was fairly light with a nice edge from the mustard seeds and onions, and complimented well by the soft-boiled egg. Unfortunately, there wasn’t such a balance struck with the latter option, as the curry and ginger completely overwhelmed any other flavor in each bite. — Smørrebrød: A take on the traditional«butter and bread», we were given three varieties off the standard menu: Gravad Salmon, Chicken Salad, and Roast Beef. The Salmon was pretty simple but tasty, a cold preparation served with a mustard-dill sauce and pickled onions, but the Chicken Salad fell flat as there was an abundance of mayonnaise and not enough spice or acidity to contrast the creaminess. The best out of the three was the roast beef, though; it’s served with plenty of crispy onions, horseradish and parsley, and a light remoulade to finish. — Rice Pudding: The dessert to end the meal was a fairly standard rice pudding that was topped off with a cherry reduction. Sweet, cold, and fairly predictable. I’m not sure if my experience here was a fluke, but there’s not much about the food offered here that would draw me back for a return visit, especially given the plethora of other restaurants in the vicinity.

Aamanns-Copenhagen has some of the most exciting food I’ve eaten in a long time and is a welcome addition to the NYC dining scene. Their housemade soft drinks are some of the best I’ve had in the city. The black currant and red currant sodas are vibrant and pure, perfectly capturing the essence of the fruit. The starters were the most successfully executed part of the meal. The beef tartare was fresh, with sharp onions and mustard cutting through the richness of the meat. The whole grain porridge was excellent and contained a surprising mixture of flavors, from the extremely tender veal tongue to the acidic sea buckthorn bursting with flavor. The Gravad salmon, coated with a mossy mixture of spices, was very good and paired well with crisp cucumber. The roasted cauliflower was surprisingly filling for a vegetarian entrée and was served with a very tasty and nutty brown butter sauce. The steamed hake, covered with dill, was perfectly cooked and accompanied with plump clams. The roasted duck was not as tender as it could have been, but the cherries on the plate were juicy and flavorful, and the kale salad was nicely dressed. The desserts, unfortunately, were not so successful, combining some sweet flavors with overpowering savory notes. While the toasted ginger meringue was good, the pumpkin cheesecake also came with an unpleasant, salty powder. Similarly, the deep fried rice pudding(which had a donut-like consistency) was paired with a very strong, wine-red granita and hard, toasted rice. The texture of the chocolate mousse was excellent, but the accompanying sumac was borderline offensive. Strangely, the desserts left a stronger savory aftertaste than the rest of the meal. Service was very friendly, and the dining room was, clean, modern, and comfortable.

Having lived in Denmark, and fully aware of the dearth of authentic Danish food options in New York, especially smørrebrød, I eagerly awaited Aamann’s Copenhagen’s opening so I could try it. I finally got myself here with a friend recently for brunch and was blown away with the authentic, thoughtfully-presented cuisine which harkens back to the hearty, comforting smørrebrød I enjoyed while living in Copenhagen, and to the creative, stylish way that Danish cooks improvise and use ingredients. My friend and I both opted for the brunch/lunch prix-fixe option, which for $ 46 per person included three courses, plus a dessert to share. Our first course was cured herring, two-ways(in a curry sauce, and in a mustard sauce), served with Aamanns’ homemade rye bread and butter. The second course was comprised of three half– smørrebrød(chicken salad, cured hake and roast beef), and the third course was the meat course, which included a warm pork pâté, akin to a light meatloaf, studded with hazelnuts and topped with sautéed vegetables, and steak tartare, topped with ever-so-mini potato chips and onions. The dessert course was a delicious lemon custard flavored with licorice, a terrific, light finish. The presentation of each dish was beautiful, and the creative, colorful ingredients made it a noteworthy meal. Service was doting and friendly, and I enjoyed a beet martini to go alongside my meal. The restaurant itself is bright and decorated with modern Danish furniture and lighting, as well as a large bar area with interesting Danish goods on the shelves behind it. The food here is relatively expensive(bear in mind that smørrebrød in Denmark is essentially everyday«quick meal» food), but it is worth it for the experience. Overall, Aamann’s is a standout as a unique, authentic dining option in Tribeca, and one I look forward to returning to.

I met up with a friend for lunch here since she works nearby and I had the day off. The space is very fresh with white-washed walls and a rather sterile feel to the furnishings. Fortunately, the friendly staff makes the place still feel warm. The menu is all organic and that’s reflected in their prices. My friend and I shared 3 open sandwiches, a soup, a dessert, and had coffee and it was about $ 35 total. Delicious though! If it were cheaper I’d give them 5 stars. The hake special and the steak tartare were my favorite but the soup of the day was also stellar. I’d love to try their herring. For desserts, only the buttermilk custard caught our eye and it was good. The coffee was excellent just as I expected. Over all it’s a nice spot for a lunch or coffee date.

This is a cute new addition to my work neighborhood! Ever since I came back from Copenhagen last summer, I was curious if there’s any Danish restaurant that exists around my area and voila, I found one just a short walking distance from my office!!! Yay!!! The décor is very IKEA fresh, everything is executed with a typical Scandinavian clean and modern aesthetic. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, I wanna give my big kudos especially to Lee and Leslie for their fantastic service! I’m telling you, great customer service makes great businesses! I’ve tried 5,6 different smørrebørd here and my faves are hake and steak tartar! They are both flavorful, fresh, and surprisingly light for what they are. I enjoyed the dense rye bread that they use for the smørrebørd, it’s authentically Danish! You can also buy the bread for take away. I wasn’t very keen on roast beef and brisket… they are still good but I didn’t find them that memorable. I was a bit disappointed that there was no shrimp on the smørrebørd menu… I hope they will bring it back for the next seasonal menu because that’s what most of us expect from a typical Danish smørrebørd restaurant. The last but not least, their soups are exquisite! I don’t even like green peas but their green pea soup was amazing!!! Although I was a bit hesitant to try carrot purée soup at first, I was pleasantly surprised by this hearty and scrumptious soup which didn’t taste that carroty(is that a word? LOL). You can tell from the taste that everything they use is fresh and made me feel that I had a relatively«healthy» meal. I can’t wait to go back again! A piece of Denmark in NYC!
