This is your perfectly average hospital cafeteria. It’s not particularly well-organized. In fact, the placement of the various stations is downright confusing, and the lines for each section run into each other. Strange. In any case, pricing is normal for New York. A hearty lunch will still run you over $ 10. The turkey sandwich I got wasn’t bad, but they charge for the cheese in the sandwich, which is crazy to me. The international section looked good, but it was hidden, so it was too late once I got my sandwich. The seating area looks large, but is actually quite limited. You may have to share. Overall, this is not the first place I’d come to eat, but if you’re stuck here, it’s tolerable.

Uh oh, not another hospital cafeteria — in the city no less!!! So you are either too lazy to walk outside, it’s raining, snowing, unbearably hot or cold, ABP is just not an option and/or you brought your lunch and need somewhere to eat(they have a microwave to re heat your food too) The Garden Café is your spot. Located in the basement accessible from any of the hospital elevators — just follow the signs. I don’t think they are open late, but the vending area with the microwave and some seating is open 24 hours. Food is nothing spectacular, I had a salad from the salad bar cost was $ 6.50/lb. 10% discount for anyone wearing a badge, always a good thing. No harsh reviews on this place, it serves it’s purpose — if you want a better meal, take a walk outside and Unilocal something!

Visiting the Garden Café after a relative’s appointment in the hospital was disappointing. First the Garden Café has no Garden contained since it is in the middle of the Basement Level. I am not a food critic but has had plenty of exposure to restaurants and cooking experience. First, I believe the café is out of date. The last time I was there was in 1970 and it looked exactly the same when I was a student. I was shocked not to see anything different changed after all this time. The selections offered today and practical everyday are not of a healthy choice I have experienced in many other healthcare facilities I have visited and worked at. The level of food being offered was very, very disappointing. Even the level of cleanliness was disappointing around the food areas. This can cause a turn off of making your food choices. The Salad Bar was disappointing with a lack of many of the selections and garnishes missing and not replaced. Some of the premade salads like the Seafood(Artificial) Salad and Carrot Salad was barely passable. It was not even close to what it was supposed to resemble. The Soup Station did not offer a healthy choice and were all creamy choices ex. cream of mushroom which was way to thick. The area of the station was also not kept clean. The International Station as only Italian today. Three choices of pasta(Ziti, Raviolis, etc.) There was three of the same looking sauces. I did wish they had covers over the pastas to keep them warm. They started to look dry. The Pizza Station was the worst of all. All the pizzas looked thick, limp resembling Deep Dish which I don’t think they had in mind. The most disturbing point was the 6 pre-assembled pizzas with cheese and meat on them laying out on racks for future use. Not refrigerated. And over a dozen pizza bases laying on the rack exposure. So unappetizing. Unfortunately we ate very little and expected to finish our meal when we got home. I was very disappointed with the meal and food selections at what I was pleasantly expecting to experience in such a Large Metropolitan Health Care Facility as NYPH…

«Garden café but where is the garden» This is a standard hospital eatery located int the basement of wcmc medical college. The food is ok, sometimes a little oily for me. For breakfast they have freshly prepared waffles, omelettes. If you want these items, it would be better to come before 9am because that line is very long and they have only one person making these items. For lunch and dinner, they typically have daily specials, pizza, sushi, sandwiches, prepackaged burgersandKosher food. I prefer this place over the Au Bön Pain that is in the hospital because there is more seating in the GFC. The cashiers are pretty friendly and laid back. The Eastern European with red hair is hilarious.

Pretty decent hospital cafeteria. You get 10% off with hospital/med school id, though they don’t give reciepts and I get the feeling I’m only getting the discount about half the time. They have bagels/oatmeal/breakfast sandwiches in the morning, and a fairly large variety of food for lunch. Salad bar, 2 sandwich/wrap stations, a section for junk food(hamburgers, fries, chicken fingers, pizza) and 2 rotating stations for hot food. The best day is cheesesteak day.

If you’re looking for food in a hospital your day is probably not going that well. However, if you do find yourself in the immaculate, recuperative, expertly staffed halls of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, please avail yourself of the Garden Café. A few highlights: Omelette bar: get here early(before 9:45) and rock out to Katy Perry’s California Gurls blasting from the deli counter while waiting for your $ 3.82 breakfast that’s bigger than your head – unless you have Pagets disease of bone, in which case you’re already upset because your hats don’t fit Salad bar: This is so popular that cafeteria workers literally are standing by to restock it. Be prepared, it can be a bit of a free for all, but that should be no problem for young, enterprising healthcare professionals. Dress to impress because it’s a social nidus. Make sure your white coat is just pressed and your stethoscope is gleaming so you can catch the eye of the cute nutritionist. Really some people may be tempted to head to Sloan-Kettering for the crab cakes or enjoy the East River vistas at Rockefeller Weiss Café or even rub gleno-humeral joints with Ortho Docs at HSS but when that ABP in the lobby becomes just too expensive – go to the Garden Café. PS: 10% discount with hospital ID, or IV bag
