Out of 3 fish markets in grand st china town I have to say I was really amazed by this one. The sea food was inexpensive and fresh. Not much Parking unless u get there after 6 but then again the stores are in the middle stages of closing.

So far the cheapest market I’ve shopped in. Definitely a place to check out. The salmon was only $ 4.99 lb. The shrimp was only $ 4.99 lb. of course they varied. But all in all very cheap. I also brought pork belly which was $ 3.99 lb.

Service here is becoming increasingly worse. The fish is consistently good and they now offer smaller salmon steaks for $ 5 a pound. The $ 5.80 a pound versions are much heftier — so much so that I don’t think I would even venture over to the cheaper versions. My biggest gripe here is the service. The cashiers keep no order and have skipped over me multiple times to assist other patron who all happen to be Asian. I stood on line yesterday and was up next but noticed a sign that read«this register is for EBT/Food Stamps only». I asked the cashier if I could pay cash and she ignored me yet took the woman behind who paid cash. yes — she was Asian too. I cannot wait until the new seafood market opens up in the old Ocean Star space. I will miss the sweet ladies by the sushi counter but Hai Sein has definitely lost my business. In the meantime, I am certain that I can get similar quality fish in the area at similar prices.

I come here all the time for the mega-cheap, super fresh sushi. Awesome. Nice dudes too.

There are a dime a dozen seafood markets on this side of Grand and the Hai Sein Co. is no different. On a whole, they have an adequate selection of fish, crab, shrimp, and various other seafood items. What keeps them relatively decent however, is the outstanding service I receive each time, worthy of multiple visits. The staff usually goes out of their way to pick a nice piece of fish for me each time I’m here. They’ll do an excellent job of cleaning the fish and is always well packaged. Very little fuss and the smell is contained(which is super important especially while riding in the subway). A possible gripe is their pricing. On some days, I feel like this place might be a tad spendier than the other places but at the end of the day I’m getting a high quality product. They always maintain their prices are the same as everyone else, but it’s possible their fishes are just heavier and bigger than the rest of the competition.
