The Hideaway is a bit of secret. There are not too many reviews here despite the fact it’s relatively easy to find in TriBeCa and has been open for a while. It’s a small place with not very natural coming in even in the early afternoon when I cut out of work a bit early and head up here with a couple friends. We had a drink or two, of course, nothing fancy but there are a few beers available. Eventually we realize some food might be in order, and there are a few appetizers on the compact menu. It would be easy for a bar like this to have no food or perhaps just some chips and cold snacks, so I appreciate the full kitchen. There’s nothing earth-shattering available, and frankly I’m not sure the presence of some white truffle justifies the $ 12 cost for our order of fries, but hey, this is Tribeca. The wings are better, nice and tangy with plenty of hot sauce. It’s a bit far from the office so it’s hard to see us coming back without the surplus of time we had on this particular Friday, but at the same time, I could see it happening.

Everything was fine except for the trashy barmaid who snatched glasses and treated everyone like crap. Keep an eye out for the belly shirt and giant belly button ring. She has a really nasty attitude, and I wasn’t surprised to see other reviews mention her as well. The owner made it clear that he didn’t care about Unilocal reviews. When someone mentioned bad-yelping because of service, he cited the South Park episode about them. Honestly, with the abundance of good bars around, avoid this place.

I unfortunately have to downgrade The Hideaway… They lost their mojo. Breadless crab cakes were meh. Truffle asiago fries, which were previously my all-time favorite, were not fresh and full of flavor like they were in the past. That was a a hard pill to swallow… or shall I say potato. Drinks and service were like the food… meh.

Nice bar, but sadly my first visit was also my last. The barmaid couldn’t have possibly made us feel more unwelcome. Tipped her nicely regardless, but she clearly has a personality disorder. Avoid.

The name Hideaway is very apt, as this bar is located in a less trafficked street in Tribeca. Came here for drinks after work one day, and it’s a pretty standard bar, but I do appreciate that it is less frequented, and typically not super crowded. There are TV’s around the bar, which makes it a nice spot for sporting events(especially since it’s probably rarely crowded). And I must admit I never even considered ordering food here, but after seeing the Unilocal pictures of crabs, I’m tempted to the next time I visit.

Crab night! Love this place — food, ambiance … They serve Maryland crab on Sunday and Monday might during crab season. Crabs were fresh and delicious(and perfectly messy) and we had a great time. Waitress was so friendly. She was also helpful in deciding what else to order and suggested we pace ourselves and add on later.

I LOVE The Hideaway, like love, love! I feel the name is very appropriate as it is a bit hidden away. Here’s what you need to know: — drinks are really great! — food is even better. It’s not bar food as you’d expect, it’s legit gourmet simple cuisine in a casual environment. — there are a lot of locals that come here which makes it nice, and the service is okay, just don’t be in a hurry. Jist is, The Hideaway in Tribeca is a great bar for food, drinks and friends!

We came here on a Sunday afternoon(around 2PM). The food was OK, the service was mediocre… From reading other reviews, guess you have to be a regular to get good service. Don’t think we’ll be back. I checked the menu online that same day, and both the Lunch menu(12−4PM) and the Current Specials menu feature deviled eggs. I didn’t see the eggs on the menu and asked the waitress if they were available(thinking maybe I just missed them). She was curt and said«No, just this menu.» OK, fine. We got the fish tacos(pretty good), the cole slaw(great), hand-cut fries(OK) and the buttermilk fried chicken biscuit. The chicken was maybe seared but not fried — or maybe fried, but not breaded — it tasted fine, but not your typical buttermilk fried chicken. Also, it wasn’t on a biscuit. The service wasn’t great. We were the only people at the restaurant(two of us), and the server sat by the bar with her back to us the whole time. At one time, I wanted more water. We called her over, but she didn’t hear. My husband had to get up and walk over to her to ask for more water. When someone else came in(not a customer — maybe someone who works there, or he was delivering food), she was very chatty with him. She was very nice to us as we were leaving — guess she was more excited about our leaving than about our coming in.

Nothing special. Tiny bar with some good mixology on the menu, but the bartender girls were totally meh. Not welcoming, somewhat snotty, and just a turn off. We only stopped by to kill time until our reservation was up, so we spent a good 45 mins in here. Looks like a lot of usuals returning– sure won’t be us. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean and they’re not men/women designated– phew. The food everyone was ordering looked good. I also didn’t like the red light décor much– the Asian glow after drinks wouldn’t show in this place, which is a plus but it was just weird lighting. The bar was clean and my drinks were well prepared. It’s definitely a «hideaway” — almost walked right past it. The music is good — 90s favorites.

Writing this review on the subway home. It’s all I can do to not get on subway across the platform and return to this gem. Aesthetically great and well-appointed, but I want to return for more of the amazing fish tacos and crab cake I had for dinner. Both were utterly amazing. So much so, I’m going to talk a different co worker to dine w me tomorrow!

The Hideaway NY: Manhattan: TriBeCa 8pm Wednesday 5th November 2014 Four Stars Crossfit 212 reserved the entire bar on this evening. We drank and drank and had plenty of merriment. The Three barwomen were fun and in high spirits until they found out that one of their regulars passed away. It makes you realize that you need make the most out of each day. The Hideaway was a phenomenal place to hang out with good friends and new people. Plus they have several Rye Whiskeys. I enjoyed Old Overholt most of night. I did have some Mt Gay, Prosecco, and shot of Espolon Tequila.

Truffle fries and spicy pork tacos were awesome. Friendly good bartenders and strong drinks. However you’re surrounded by Banker Wankers …

Two words: Truffle fries. AMAZING. Tucked away in the heart of TriBeCa, The Hideaway offers comfort food at its finest. With a menu that changes pretty regularly, the dishes are sure to please. I’ve had the grilled cheese and catfish tacos, which were both great. Their seasonal cocktails are one of a kind, along with their selection of craft beers. They also have an additional crab night menu, which I’m dying to try. It’s a pretty small place, and can be hard to get a table during happy hour, but it’s definitely a place to try if ever in the area.

TriBeCa has great restaurants who value and respect there customers, do not waste your time coming here. Rude! Wanted to like this place but had a terrible experience. Female bartender was incredibly rude when we ate here, we were thrown out of our table and told to stand after very expensive brunch because she needed to to turn the table. I live In the area and have felt spoilt by so many wonderful restaurants until now. I have never had such bad service in a restaurant before. Will never return to such an over priced place with bad service and such a rude waitress.

I’d love to come back for the crab boil — my fish tacos were delicious, the bartenders were fantastic, and my drinks were served promptly and correctly.

We went here while exploring places for some hockey and mixed drinks. They had some unique ideas, but from the drinks we got I’d say 2⁄3 were just okay. The others were pretty good though(blond bombshell was my favorite). Bottom line — it’s a place I’d say I went to, had fun at and would go back. But if a friend asked for places to go to in TriBeCa it would be one of my first recommendations.

A few co-workers and I came here for Thursday drinks and we were a little dismayed at the fact there were no happy hour deals. However, the normal prices are okay. $ 6 – 7 for craft brews. Not amazing, but not terrible either. Mixed drinks and cocktails are a bit more pricey, and not all that strong, so buyer beware. We had a pretty large party, and it got a little cramped, so if you’re planning to have a lot of people for«happy hour»(20+), I would go somewhere else. Service overall is pretty attentive and kind, but again, very adamant about not having drink specials. Weird. Doesn’t seem like they’re having trouble attracting customers I guess, but I think it’s still crazy. Okay, dead horse beaten. We ordered some random bites, like the tacos and truffle fries, which were very good. Fries were crisp and had that strong truffle smell/taste, and the tacos were more sizable than most bars in the city. For once, I’m not complaining about the tacos! Also, crab night does intrigue me, so one of these days, I’ll have to see what that’s all about. Overall, the beer selection is decent and if you want to order food, most of the dishes I tried were pretty tasty. I can see myself coming back for food, but if it’s just post-work drinks, might try some other places first.

I thought this was a dive bar? Or is it just a TriBeCa version of a dive bar? Either way, if you’ve ever yearned to elbow past seas of rich white people with designer baby strollers blocking every pathway as you try buying a $ 7 domestic beer, then you’ve found just the spot to make that happen. I suppose you gotta know where you bread is buttered, so there’s a good chance this watering hole will double as a daycare facility for the foreseeable future… I hear they have a fun crab dinner series that I’d love to try sometime. Here’s to hoping that Monday — Thursday nights are nothing like the Diaper Disco this place turns into on the weekends…

We came upon this spot with a friend, recent transplant to Tribeca who has been systematically partaking of all watering holes in the vincinity. Tonight it was The Hideaway. Surprisingly, the food was quite good and the bartenders up to snuff. As always, I am a big fan of the buy back, which occurred after our 3rd round and 5th round. By that point, I was glad I had eaten most of my dinner to help anchor down all that Jameson’s and the glut of cookies consumed at an earlier Holiday Cookie Party hosted by an apparently alcoholic mix-master of ceremonies. Note our kind cookie host is merely a native of the UK whose natural proclivites include the ability to drink enough to float a battleship. Back to the Hideaway– it’s a sweet little hang that I’d return to again, especially now that I have endeared myself to the bar staff having provided them with astrological readings of their nativity and discussions on the pleasure pain of Pluto/Saturn.

From the moment I spotted the painted blue crab on the outside of «The Hideaway» I knew I was in for some hands-on crustacean crackin’ fun. This review is definitely crab-centric although I did sample the fries and peel ‘n eat shrimp, both of which were quite tasty. But it is for jumbo sized maryland blue crab that I ventured to Duane Street on a Monday night. The Hideaway offers up these crabby treats on Sunday and Mondays during the spring and into summer. This is a small space with a large bar. There are just a handful of tables so I’d suggest arriving early. There’s a relaxed feel to the Hideaway that manages to make rolling up your sleeves, prying open crab and covering one’s face with Old Bay seasoning perfectly acceptable. Points to the cocktail menu for including a Pimm’s Cup. Our waitress was patient enough to offer up a demo on proper crab cleaning. I like food that I can smash a mallet into and then be rewarded with meat. There’s something very primal about that but please operate mallets safely — collateral shell damage can strike your neighbors. Even after the lesson, she offered advice to me and stopped me from making an error. I’m a slow learner. Two orders of three crabs each, one fries, one peel and eat shrimp, about 6 cocktails and corn on the cob came out to approximately $ 150. Yes, the cost will run up quickly and honestly, there’s not that much meat in a crab. I wouldn’t recommend making this if you are starving but for a place to hang out, drink and feast on crab, The Hideaway is a prime location. The rest of the menu is the typical bar fare of mainly burgers and wings.
