It’s not really a «lotus garden» per se. It’s an amazing secret garden atop a parking garage in the Upper West Side. It’s private during the week, but open to the public Sunday afternoon until 4pm. The garden itself is divided into parcels that members can claim as their own and plant whatever their heart desires. What’s really neat is that there are trees here because the soil is 3 feet deep, the minimum for trees. Nestled between buildings, there is a nice secluded air about this place. The sun make interesting rays of light based on the time of day. The gardens are extremely cute, some with little ornaments. On the side near the street, there is a little pond with fish. Along one side wall is a large ivy that climbs up the side of the adjacent building, resembling a tree in its own right. People were working on the garden, all of them friendly. One woman told us that there are plots available if we were interested in joining.

A lovely little spot that I guess is something of a secret, so pretend you didn’t see this. Or just don’t tell anybody. Anyway, it’s only of interest if you live on the UWS, because it’s basically just a private park. You can’t get in except on Sunday afternoons, I understand, but you can at that time purchase an annual membership for $ 20 and receive a key. Come back anytime after that for some Zen solitude next to the garden plots planted by other members. Put yourself on the waiting list to get a plot of your own. No, don’t, because I want one, too. Seriously, this is a pleasant place to while away some time reading a book or just relaxing away from the hectic hubbub of the streets. Some cool water features, too.
