My wife & I received a gift certificate from The Private Chef as a present last year. We waited until our daughter was born to redeem it & celebrate, only to be told that the gift certificate has a six month expiration. Maybe we should have scoured the(very) fine print to check that beforehand, but Bill at The Private Chef couldn’t have been less responsive when we emailed him… RESPONSE #1: «your gift certificate expired. Let me know if you have another one.» And we never received a response to our second or our third emails. Maybe the food’s OK, but don’t expect a lot of service. We’re obviously never using this guy. We recently hosted a dinner party at home with The Private Chef NYC and it was great! We had four people in our party and the cost came out to be less than a meal in a restaurant. We worked with personal chef in advance to create a menu that suited all of our guests. The chef(Matt) was extremely prompt and had a great personality. We were definitely unsure what to expect — it can be weird having a stranger in your home — but it turned out perfectly. They brought all the groceries, we just had to provide the cooking space, pots and pans and few gadgets(they go over what you need before they show up, so don’t worry if you don’t have something). There was enough food for everyone and even left overs the next day. If your looking to entertain at home for a small group with amazing food at the same cost of a restaurant, then I’d highly recommend this. Best part is, no having to worry about getting home when you drank too much :)
