I recently visited this tiny shop, and I must say it’s a real gem(no pun intended as this is a jewelry shop ;p) Peggy was very knowledgeable and so friendly. I originally heard about this shop from a Refinery29 article online, and decided to go on my day off. It was pouring, but I had to visit as I have learned the hours of operation are very diff. from other shops… …long story short: I walked out with 3 amazing pieces of jewelry that are so unique, and you can not find anywhere else as she supports locally made jewelry designers. I can not wait to visit again!!! Peggy is sweet and when visiting it feels you are in a cozy/unique gallery-like space.

I love this shop and have been going here for years. It’s kind of my little secret place to buy unique, fun, beautiful pieces for myself and great gifts for special occasions. I tend to buy a lot of Sophie’s pieces but there are many designers to love. The owner, Peggy, is warm and welcoming, makes you feel like an old friend. Love love love.

Just wanted to write a positive review, as often we write when service is poor, ect. I just purchased an item today from Shape of Lies, and I must say I had a great experience at the store. Not only is the selection of jewelry unique, but the owner is happy to tell you about the pieces/designers. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. It made for a very nice experience, and I love the piece I bought.

This is absolutely my favorite jewelry shop in NYC! It’s a small boutique run by Peggy who’s super friendly. She carries handmade pieces from local artists which are always unique and interesting. The prices are moderate considering this is New York but pricy enough where I avoid going too much because I find it hard to leave without buying a few pieces. Peggy makes some of the pieces and she’s really cool about working with you if you’d like something with a little tweak. I have bought my favorites pieces from this little shop including the little silver scissor necklace you see in the slide show(it always gets lots of compliments,) a lovely silver dove necklace, a delicate little coral bracelet and the most adorable swarovski drop earrings which I unfortunately lost one of recently… I wanted to cry when I realized I’d lost it! I need to stop by the shop and see if Peggy can make me another set or do something with the remaining earring because I loved them so much. Definitely the place to go to for that special someone who likes unique gifts.

There are certain things that make living in New York a wonderful. Way too many to list, but if I was to sit down and create a list«hand crafted jewelry stores» would be on my list. And The Shape of Lies is my favorite of them all! The Shape of Lies only cares and sells handmade pieces by local artists. You can even see some of them creating these works of art in the back. Peggy the owner is always helpful and full of stories to share about each piece and the artists who made it. It’s one of my go to places for special gifts or on those days when I want something special for my self. From modern wood watches to simple and classic chains you can’t help but want to buy everything in here.

The Shape of Lies is a real neighborhood spot with hand-crafted jewelry and accessories. Peggy is a longtime local and knows all about the pieces she sells. It’s a store that supports artisans and gives great service. A definite EVill favorite!

The Shape of Lies is a small boutique(with odd hours) and a good selection of offbeat handmade jewelry. You can see the workers making jewelry in the back as you shop. Upon entering, they will tell you that the designs are all handmade by local artists. If you’re interested in a piece, they will give you background information on the artist, inspiration for the piece, etc. You can find everything here from more classic designs that look like they could have come out of the gift shop at the Met to quirky, trendy pieces. Everything is extremely expensive. I would recommend going here if you’re looking for a very special, unconventional gift for which money isn’t an object, or rather, maybe it is and you’re planning on spending a fair amount. I’m of the opinion that if I were going to spend massive amounts of money on jewelry, I’d rather support the artist and end up with something unique than buy a run of the mill piece from a jewelry chain. I’d recommend calling first if you intend on stopping by to make sure they’re open as I find they don’t always stick to the hours posted out front.

Cute store with local jewelry designs, but too tacky for my(obviously refined) taste.
