The Strand Hotel

Stayed here with 2 kids for 2 nights. Location is great, easy reach to all attractions in NYC. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. The room was a little cozy, but clean and comfortable with great view of Empire State Building.

I love this hotel. It is just beautiful inside. Very nicely decorated and clean. The rooms are pretty small, which is to be expected. Everyone was very nice. The views were great. Very happy with this choice.

Most accommodating hotel I’ve ever stayed in with regard to early check in. We had called the morning of our arrival to let them know we would be arriving early for a NY Rangers Game at 1pm and asked if they would hold our bags. To our surprise, they had a room ready for us and we were able to check in before noon. the quick 10 minute walk to MSG was convenient. This made our day much smoother. They do not have a parking garage, but a valet with off-​site garage parking, with an approximate cost of $ 50.00 for the one night. I will add that when you are ready to check out and call for your car — give yourself 30 minutes as that is how long it takes for your car to be pulled up. Room was modern, clean and very nice. View of the Empire State Building was lovely. Only downfall I would say is that there is no room service, and neither the hotel restaurant or rooftop bar open till the evening. Other than that — I would definitely stay here again. great price, great location, very accommodating!

My sister and I just visited NYC for my first time.
We walked into The Strand, from severe cold and at an early hour, after a 6 hour wait in the New Jersey Airport. We we’re exhausted and ready to check in.
Immediately, the doormen were inviting, welcoming and pleasant. At the front desk, Peter checked us in early, gave us breakfast vouchers and a great room with a view of the Empire State Building. He was very professional and courteous.
The room was on the 17^th floor.
King size bed, nice amenities and chocolates during turn down service.
Breakfast was delicious, a choice of 3 meals, not a buffet. Hot food, coffee and fresh fruits.
We walked everywhere, with ease. It was close to walk to:
Time Square
Madison Square Garden
The Met
Central Park
Chez Josephine’s
The NY Public Library
Katz Deli
The Strand Bookstore
Shopping in 5^th Avenue
Penn Station
NYC has a great asset in The Strand.

Hotel is very cozy and comfortable, the staff were really nice, they provided a bottle of champagne on the first day when I arrived, because of my birthday. That made me really happy! :)

Das Strand Hotel ist perfekt in NY gelegen, direkt an der 5^th Avenue und das Empire State ist Fußläufig zu erreichen. Die Anreise sollte per Taxi oder Bahn erfolgen, ein Parkhaus für z.B. Mietwagen gibt es nicht.
Die Lobby ist toll gestaltet, große Fotografien und angenehme Farben, alles wurde frisch renoviert. Der Checkin lief Problemlos, schnell und unkompliziert ab.
Leider darf man von der schönen Lobby keinen Rückschluss auf die Zimmer ziehen.
Die Zimmer sind für NY Verhältnisse typisch klein. Es hängen ein paar nette Bilder an den Wänden, aber der Rest wirkt schon etwas abgewohnt. Platz für den Koffer oder einen Schrank gibt es nicht, besser hätte man neben der Couch auf den Sessel verzichtet und etwas mehr Platz gehabt. Die Zimmer sind nicht ansatzweise so stylisch, wie die Homepage und Lobby es versprechen. Schade. Positiv ist uns die Sauberkeit des Zimmers bei der Anreise aufgefallen, während unseres Aufenthalts wurde nicht so gründlich gereinigt.
Auch die «European Style Bathrooms» sind relativ eng, teilweise mit hochwertigen Armaturen ausgestattet, aber es wirkt irgendwie alles abgewohnt und nicht stylisch.
Die Flure im Hotel haben auch schon bessere Zeiten gesehen, der Teppich ist schwer und unterstützt wenig das Schieben von Koffern …
Das Frühstück im Restaurant sollte man sich schenken, es gibt in der Umgebung viele Delis die es schaffen, günstiger, schneller und freundlicher bei besserer Qualität zu Arbeiten. Der Service hat für O-​Saft und Omelett über eine Stunde gebraucht. Auf Nachfrage, war der Saft und das Omelett dann sofort da.
Die Bar auf dem Dach mit schöner Aussicht und die perfekte Lage in NYC bringen dann 3 Sterne.

We stayed here in April 2015 and found the place to be nice but tiny. Our room had no space around the bed to walk around and certainly no place to keep our bags.
The bathroom had absolutely no place (such as a shelf) to put our toiletries on. This was SO inconvenient!
We had two bad nights there due to noise in the hallways. One was particularly bad as it seems some partygoers from the rooftop bar came down and continued their party in the hallway outside our door. We had our flight home the next morning so definitely did not appreciate that. Entrance to floors should be much better controlled.
The good things about this place included: chocolates on our pillows with turn down service, staff in the bar that helped us arrange a birthday cake celebration. The staff is good.
For the price, this place should be better. Getting shelves in the bathrooms would be a huge improvement.

BUYER BEWARE: If there were a negative star system I would enforce that here. After staying here for a long weekend, I paid cash for my stay but only to get a charge on my credit card the following month. I tried fighting the charge but to no avail. Shame on The Strand Hotel, someone forged my signature on a receipt and got away with it. I hope writing this will make buyers to beware of the receipt, read it before you leave and if you pay cash, make sure they write PAID CASH on the receipt. Being in a rush during check out, trusting people were my main downfall. A major red flag should have been after I handed the guy cash, he asked me if I needed a receipt. Too bad because this hotel is in a good location but then again there are so many five star worthy hotels in NYC.

A pleasant boutique hotel in central Manhattan. Good location, nice rooms overlooking the Empire State Bldg. The service is excellent and personalized. The private taxi company they recommended misunderstood our request, the bill was $ 40 more expensive than announced but the hotel manager decided to pay the difference! They clearly focus on the customer relations. Thank you and Bravo!

We had bad luck regarding hotels in NYC. This hotel was hands down the best. The staff is welcoming (Diana especially) and the rooms are very comfortable and quiet. Quiet is hard to come by in NYC. Love this place. Will plan to stay here on any future trips.

Staff was absolutely wonderful. We arrived after an international flight and a dirty cab ride. The bellhop was already getting our bags as we got out of the cab and we were offered a glass of red wine upon arrival.
The room was small, but plenty spacious for New York. We were on the first floor and kept our curtains tightly shut as our window looked out onto trash cans and an alley. Staff apologized that they couldn’t accommodate us in a higher room and offered us a complimentary breakfast instead. We loved the shower with the stone tiles.
The location is one of the best parts. It was a short walk to Times Square and the Empire State Building. We will definitely consider staying at the Strand on our next visit.

Very courteous staff. I must have called the front desk for ice five times during our two night stay because there are no ice machines! But they were really nice at all hours. The rooms can be a little tight, the heating and air seemed a little wonky at times, and the fridge was only for mini bar stuff, but other than that, a very nice stay and very courteous and professional staff.
Our room came with one robe (which I wore a lot. it was so comfy) and an umbrella for us to use. We also stopped by the rooftop bar, and even though they had enclosed the patio because of the cold weather, we still got a good view of the Empire State building along with a very stiff cocktail. Expensive but worth at least one visit if you are a hotel guest.
Great location. Short walk to subway. A lot of restaurants, convenience stores, and little shops in the area. Be sure the check out all of the beaded pageant gown stores across the street.

We just stayed at this cute little hotel and I have to say that apart from a few small things, this is a great establishment to stay in when visiting NYC!
The pros:
1. Excellent location. 5 blocks from Times Square and 3 blocks from Macy’s (for those shopaholics out there). Super central with tons of restaurants, cafes, pharmacies, and little stores everywhere.
2. Excellent service. The people at the front desk were always smiling, friendly, and enthusiastic to help with anything we needed.
3. Great rooms. Decent sized rooms for New York with modern décor.
4. Paperless signage for ‘do not disturb’ and ‘please service my room’. Instead, you just click a button from the inside of your room and a small light goes on outside indicating your preference. Super cool!
Cons:
1. Pretty bad view. One side of the hotel overlooks the Empire State Building while the other faces a bunch of tall buildings (one of which is under construction) which as you might have guessed was our view. Needless to say, we kept the blinds closed all weekend.
2. Bed isn’t the most comfortable and squeaks super loud whenever you move. Or get in… Or get out… Hopefully it was just our bed and not all the ones in the hotel.
3. Rooms are very close to each other (we had a corner unit) and so when the door was knocked next door, it sounded like ours, etc.
4. The restaurants/​lounges in the building are not open all day.
Overall, we would stay here again (although I always love trying out new places…) simply for the great location and service. 4 stars awarded :)

Great rooftop bar for cocktails and a view with friendly staff and all-​season seating. Loved it. And breakfast in the main café was simple but fresh and satisfying. Great dining and drinking options at a cool midtown hotel.

Wir sind jetzt zum 4. Mal in diesem Hotel, wie immer alles bestens. Personal sehr freundlich, stets aufmerksam. Die Lage ist erstklassig, 5 Minuten zu Fuß zum Time Square.
Wir buchen immer ohne Frühstück, ich meine… das ist New York. Raus aus dem Hotel und Möglichkeiten ohne Ende, seinen Hunger zu stillen. Unsere Kids würden wahrscheinlich meckern, wenn wir im Hotel frühstücken «müssten».
Wenns nach New York geht, immer wieder gerne hierhin.

I’m a huge fan of The Strand… was debating where to stay in NYC for a quick weekend getaway with hubby and I’m so happy I chose this hotel. We were greeted warmly by John in reception… we were also surprised to be upgraded to a corner room on the top (20^th) floor with a balcony (standing room only) plus view of the Empire State bldg… how’s that for awesome hospitality? The staff was super nice… always smiling and saying hi. Rooms were very clean, spacious and modern. Bed was comfortable, sheets were soft and new. The rooftop bar clinched it for me… we headed up there daily for a drink and to relax, while taking in the NYC view. This is my new go-​to hotel when staying in NYC from here on in… thanks Strand staff! Kudos to John and Dre for making us happy!

ok. Location is great. Other than that I really can’t believe this one is 4 star hotel I’m not buying it. First of all I stayed in superior king and room was really small the bed is right next to door.
You have to ask for coffee maker and ice since they’re not in the room. Roof top bar is not that fancy as photo and it’s also small. Sight seeing of empire state bldg is spectacular and atmosphere is cozy though.

for $ 255 without breakfast and when I checked price through hotel website and it was $ 240 with breakfast all in.
Staffs are kind and helpful.

We stayed at this hotel as part of my wedding festivities in NYC. My husband and I had decided to get married in Central Park, and needed a decent hotel with a nice bar located close to landmarks for our families coming from both sides of the Atlantic. This place totally fit the bill.
It is a really lovely hotel, and has that boutique hotel look and feel. We had told them we were getting married, and they were kind enough to give us a courtesy upgrade to the Empire Suite. The Empire Suite was a beautiful, up to date room. They also sent us a couple glasses of champagne and a few other nice little surprises. In general, the staff was amazing– so thoughtful and attentive.
My parents room was not so nice, it smelled a bit of cigarette smoke and had some really grubby stains on the curtains. But other than that, they were happy with the room. They received macaroons on arrival, again, a nice touch.
The hotel bar on the ground floor offers a free wine tasting between 4 – 5 pm on weekdays, which is very nice. The hours on the weekend are a bit weird– the bar opens at 5 pm, closes at 11 pm. I guess this is to not compete with the rooftop bar, but it was a bit jarring to be bounced from a bar in NYC at 11 pm.
Lastly, we had our flowers for our wedding delivered here. The reception was nice enough to keep them in the bar fridge, but somehow, someone decided to rip open the groom’s corsage and remove it. I am not sure what anyone would want with a groom’s corsage, but whatever. I was annoyed, but in the great scheme of wedding disasters, this is minor. The fact it was 20 degrees outside and with a windchill of 8 degrees was far more worrisome! The manager though, freaked out and spent ½ hour running all over the neighborhood trying to replace it. Unfortunately, it was made with expensive, custom ordered flowers, so our replacement didn’t match. BUT I appreciate her professionalism and her dedication to our happiness, and the groom liked it and, at the end of the day, that is what matters,

I recently visited The Strand and was really impressed with the level of customer service. Even before I arrived, the concierge helped me with restaurant options and detailed directions on getting around the city. Mike, at the front desk, accommodated my request for early check-​in and late check-​out without charging extra, as most hotels do.
The hotel is swanky, charming, clean and in the perfect location — close to the Fashion District and Times Square. There is a rooftop bar with a fabulous view of the city. I will definitely stay there again and recommend The Strand to friends and family.

We had a two night stay at the Strand. It is a great little hotel in the middle of it all. a 10 minute walk either direction to the Theatre district and shopping at Herald Square.
Our room was on the fifth floor and right by the elevator. Luckily, we did not experience any noise disturbances or problems being located where we were. We had a superior king room and was pleasantly surprised to find ample space and a decent sized bathroom. The space was clean and relaxing. We did however, find hair on a felt blanket that was in between the sheets. It was off putting but we just removed it and kept it off the bed for the rest of our stay. Also, we did not have much of a view– an alley way to be exact.
The staff was extremely courteous and friendly– another reason why we enjoyed our stay here so much. I did a lot of research before deciding to stay at the Strand. I booked directly through the hotel’s website and got an amazing rate. I highly recommend this hotel and will not hesitate to return in the future.

Wir waren im Juli 2011 für eine Woche in diesem Hotel in New York City. Und wir können es nur wärmsten weiterempfehlen!
Das Hotel liegt super central fast mittig von Public Libary und dem Empire State Building. Zu Fuß sind somit Broadway, 5^th Ave, Herald Square (Macys!) etc. bequem zu erreichen. Wir sind im Allgemeinen sehr viel gelaufen auch bis zum Central Park.
Das Hotel ist recht neu (Eröffnung 2010) und modern mit Art deco touch eingerichtet. Der Empfang ist sehr großzügig über zwei Etagen und mit einer unglaublich schönen riesigen Lampe und einem Wasserfall, die beide ins UG führen, wo die Besprechungsräume und der Internetraum sind.
Das Personal am Empfang, Concierge etc. sind alle sehr zuvorkommend, nett und symphathisch. Bei den Vorbereitungen hat uns insbesondere Bryan vom Concierge-​Service sehr weitergeholfen mit Tipps und Buchung für den Geburtstag meines Mannes.
Die Zimmer sind unglaublich schön. Insbesondere für New Yorker Verhältnisse sind sie echt groß! Das Beste ist allerdings das unglaublich bequeme Boxspring-​Bett; nach ca. 12 Std. Erkundungstour durch Manhattan geht man ins Bett wie eine Oma und steht auf wie Neugeboren! (wir haben uns dann zu Hause auch eins bestellt!)
Ausserdem gibt es genug Platz für die Klamotten und sogar ein kleiner Schrank für hängende Kleidung (und mit Tresor) sind vorhanden. Auch nicht normal für NY Hotels.
Das Bad ist groß genug und sehr schön eingerichtet. Rundum perfekt.
Frühstück wurde im hinteren Raum des Restaurants im EG eingenommen. Dieser war sehr nett eingerichtet mit loungeigen Möbeln mit einem Baldachin an den Seiten und normalen kleinen runden Tischchen im Rest des Raums. Das Frühstücksbuffett war ok; continental mit Aufschnitt, süßen Teilchen, Bagels, Müsli etc. Gewöhnungsbedürftig für uns war, dass der Kaffee einfach in Pappbecher gezapft wurde. Vorteil natürlich, dass man sich gleich noch einen mitnehmen konnte.
Ein Hotspot der Stadt befindet sind auf dem Dach des The Strand; nämlich eine coole Bar mit direktem Blick auf das Empire State Building! Wahnsinn! Morgens ist es leider noch nicht geöffnet für ein paar Fotos kann man sich aber immer mal dahin schleichen ;) Und abends, wenn das Empire beleuchtet ist, muss man einfach oben sitzen und einen Cocktail genießen!
Die Preise sind gehoben. Allerdings für New Yorker Verhältnisse absolut im Schnitt. Unbedingt vor der Buchung Preise checken (online) und zusätzlich nach Angeboten im Hotel fragen. Wir haben immerhin die Hälfte gespart. Was sicherlich auch an der Reisezeit lag im Juli würden wir NIE WIEDER nach New York fahren! Aber ins The Strand immer wieder (wenn der Preis stimmt).
