The Surrey

Simply the best. The most personalized experience you could ask for! A friendly welcome. A feeling of safety – lobby is vey well attended and elevator requires your room key. Clean, clean, clean. Lovely rooms. ‘Studio suites’ with fireplaces are romantic; while suites with kitchenettes and pullout sofas are great when you’re traveling with the fam. Rooms with partial park views are particularly pleasant. Cornelia spa is wonderful. Roof deck in warm weather a unique plus. What’s not to like? Well, actually, Café Boulud which is on the street floor – best to review elsewhere but don’t factor it is as part of the package IMO – plenty of wonderful spots nearby that the concierge can recommend. But I digress – five stars for the Surrey, truly a home away from home.

We spent V-​Day last year and loved it, ultra suite was comfy and romantic (except for a few kidney stones my husband had).
We’re going to try again this V-​Day!

Beautiful aesthetics, good service, great restaraunts and bar, Great UES location only one block to Central Park. the rooms are small, but, what can you expect for NYC. I have stayed here many times and will continue to do so.

Good look to Surrey for creating a moment I’ll never forget. I’ve only met one other Opal face to face and she happens to work at the front desk. She is really sweet, and always great to see her!

Stayed in a suite for a long weekend. The suite was large and furnished with comfortable and functional furniture. Seemed to be recently renovated. Plenty of tv channels, all HD. Nespresso in room, bar sink, fridge, microwave. Big bathroom with a shockingly powerful shower. Highly professional and proficient staff. A really nice, well-​run hotel.
I thought it was odd that one day during my stay the housekeeper tried to re-​enter our suite with her master key — long after she had finished turning it over. I had the chain on the door, so the door only opened an inch. When she realized I was in the room, she apologized and said she just wanted to thank me for the tip I had left her earlier. This didn’t seem believable, and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my valuables in the room after that.

The Surrey is an elegant, top flight hotel. The rooms are well appointed. The employees are attentive to a fault. The dining room has a nice, first class atmosphere and the food is wonderfully prepared and presented.
The question then, based on the above statements, is how I could could give this establishment such a poor rating. It’s simple really. Trying to get in and out of the front entrance, invariably involves having to wind through groups of guests hanging out directly in front of the main doors smoking cigarettes.
The Surrey’s first impression is akin to a typical high school scene, with a pack of «cool» kids blocking your way in while foul smoke billows everywhere from the cigarettes. I understand that these people have to have someplace to indulge their addiction, but seriously, do we all have to walk through it every time we come and go?

My favorite place to stay in NY. In a little quieter neighborhood, but so close to the park and museums. The food is amazing as well.

My husband and I stayed at The Surrey a couple years back during a short trip to NYC. We stayed three nights and took advantage of an online deal that gave us three nights for the price of two, making The Surrey a reasonably priced upscale hotel option in the Upper East Side.
In my opinion, there’s no better place to stay while in the Big Apple than the Upper East Side. The bar and restaurant downstairs are top notch and absolutely amazing. The atmosphere can’t be beat in either of them, and although they are pricey, the bartenders, waiters, and quality of drinks/​food make them worth a try.
Our room was fairly small at The Surrey, but everything was pristine. We still talk about our stay there to this day. It’s beautifully decorated without the cliché feel that typically accompanies a hotel room. The bed and bed linens were comfortable and luxurious. The bathroom was spacious with a shower that I dream of to this day.
The entire hotel staff makes it a point to call guests by name at all times. We enjoyed dinner in the room on our first night due to being tired from traveling, and although the portions were small, the dishes were perfectly executed. Pricey, yes. But again, Upper East Side living comes at a price.
Highly recommend. We will definitely be back next time we make it to NYC!

Can I really tell you about the bar here and risk having you take my seat? No. I’m not going to tell you any more about it. Shhhhh…

Best Hotel on the Upper East Side!
The Surrey is an oasis in the chaos of NYC! I stayed for a week, and at the end of each day, after walking the streets of Manhattan, taking the subway & dirty taxi cabs, The Surrey was like walking into a cloud of luxury and calm. I stayed here about 15 years ago, before the major remodel, and the improvements are really amazing.
The location is so convenient if you’re going to the Museums, or for walking in Central Park. Park entrance is at the end of the block. There are several great restaurants within walking distance. The restaurant in the hotel is Daniel Boloud, enough said! There is a spa on-​site and last but not least, the private roof-​top, which is really amazing and rare! The views from the roof are great, and on a nice day, you really feel like you’re breathing different air up there!
The staff is wonderful, the beds are very comfortable and have beautiful duvet covers that are switched out EVERY day. The turn down service is for everyone, every night. I really can’t say enough about this hotel. A real treat for sure.

Staff are well trained and greet you by name, beds are super comfortable with quality bedding, close to the train station and shopping. Not the cheapest hotel in town, but what is cheap in upper east side anyways.

Spa. The massage was great but the facilities were disappointing. The so called library relaxation area is just a few chairs and ottomans right near the reception desk so you hear everything. You also don’t get to hang out in a plush robe before your massage so it was more of a come for service and leave place vs a day spa hang out here.
But service was good and the masseuse was excellent.

From the welcome to the farewell… The Surrey is top shelf.

What’s the difference between a $ 600 hotel room and a $ 100 hotel room? $ 500 and the following:
— Room service adds an additional $ 7 to order food that is already priced for ‘room service’
— No morning coffee in room or in lobby
— No free wi-​fi: $ 15 per day
— Lots of channels on TV but no guide/​info button to tell you what you are watching
— A room heating unit that you need a college degree to work
— Foam pillows that are bad for your neck
— Too much bedding that did not feel (as they said it would) like 400 count Egyptian cotton
The only thing worth the money was the staff. Opening doors, they remembered my name, my dog Max, and handed me an umbrella for the rain.
And that, as they say, is that.

Our family has stayed here VERY frequently over the last 10 years and a couple months ago my sister’s $ 9,000 Rolex was stolen out of the room. They’re response to this has been ATROCIOUS, despite having admitted to complaints of recent room thefts.
We spoke first to the manager on duty and despite having been apologetic, had ZERO follow up, no accountability. When we filed the police report, after having to drive back into the city and rent a room again, the officer informed us that just one week before they had filled another room theft report out there. We have been absolutely astonished that after having been regular guests for OVER 10 years they’re response to this has been so shameful. The best they’ve done is «sent it over to their insurance» company which allegedly turned down the claim.
Suffice it to say that they have lost our business now which between the hotel and restaurant amounted to way more than the watch’s value.
There are so many great places to stay in this city that value your business, it’s not worth staying at a place like this where you and your belongings are unsafe in and where you’re value is not appreciated as a customer.

Very small space, but the luxury really shows. I disliked how they crowded the appointments so close together, we were able to see the people before and then those after us, like a doctor’s office. They put me and my boyfriend in the couple’s room which looked amazing! Very spacious with a bathroom, tub and shower! The masseuses were great; very attentive to all the knots in my back. They offer you a spoonful of honey in the beginning and really try to relax you. The only negative about my massage was that my masseuse really neglected my feet, but my boyfriend said his gave a great foot rub. Mine barely touched my feet; very disappointing!
I am an avid supporter of showering after massages, and afterwards I asked if I could use the shower. They refused because they had (again) booked the next appointment so closely together, they needed the room. But if I really wanted to shower, I could use the shower in the room next door. Another disappointment, but I agreed. At the end, they didn’t rush us out and let us relax in the lobby chairs. Overall, a positive experience with a few negatives. I recommend if you are looking to splurge on a good massage!

Staff were friendly and genuinely wanted to make suggestions for our stay in NYC. There was clearly a lot of emphasis on talking with clients in an uncommonly classy and helpful way. That was nice. There was a heatwave when we were here, and one of the guys downstairs actually held our room for us for part of the afternoon– unasked for by us, at no cost– so we could come back and take a shower before our flight.
Great location if you want to spend time in Central Park, do the museums, etc Also close to Candle 79, a pretty fun high-​end vegan eatery.
In terms of our room… It was very quiet. The décor was contemporary, very black-​and-​white NYC, but still relaxing. The bathroom was FABULOUS with a shower that was its own form of physical and mental therapy. Soothing white marble. A mini-​bar with really fun options.
Be aware: no pool, as far as I am aware. Not a problem for us, but something to know.

This Relais & Chateaux property is one of the best hotels I’ve experienced in NYC. Design is modern but still classic and comfortable. Rooms are large for New York as are the bathrooms. Service is outstanding. Room service, bar and restaurant were all delicious but share the same kitchen. The location on the Upper East Side is either a plus or a minus depending on where one needs to be.
Of note, we stayed with a dog for which we got a $ 100 charge regardless of the length our stay (so it was cheap for our 5 nights but would have been expensive for one). The dog did get a special bed brought in for him though.
Only complaint: the internet isn’t free. For the price of the room it feels a bit like being nickled and dimed…

I spent one night here the weekend before Thanksgiving.
I really enjoyed the comforts of this place. The standard room was spacious, the king bed was amazingly comfortable. Both my nap during the day and the overnight was one of the most restful sleeps I’ve had at a hotel. The appointments in the room are well thought out from the lighting ‘menu’ to the sitting area to the bathroom. The towels and robes were perfect. The marble in the bathroom was beautiful and the shower was just delightful. The maid service had turned down the room and drawn the black out shade which worked like a charm. They also refreshed the towels in the bathroom. That is such a nice touch that other hotels tend to miss that detail.
All in all, you can certainly feel the luxury of this place from the time you walk through the lobby and ride the elevator to your room. They have their own luxury brand products for hair and bodywash as well as body cream.
It was a wonderful overnight stay. Looking forward to my next chance to stay here.

Idéalement situé sur Central Park, à deux pas du Moma et du Guggenheim, cet hotel offre des chambres spacieuses et de grand luxe, ainsi qu’un service attentif sans être pesant. La salle de bain en mosaique est également extrêmement agréable.
Le bar situé sur le toit terrasse au 17ème étage offr une vue magnifique sur les toits de Midtown.
Petit bémol: le wifi et l’utilisation d’un ordinateur au business center sont payants.
