Shao Yang is the best tailor /​fashion designer at this price point. I just picked up my 6^th suit from the Tailory and I can honestly say it’s better than any of my other suits bought in Europe, Asia, and the USA. Most places I’ve tried before are either owned by investors (finance types) that have below average knowledge of fashion and suiting or old school tailors that haven’t kept up with modern trends. With Shao you get a bonafied fashion designer (Parsons design school graduate) and 15+ years experience in the custom suiting. I can’t speak highly enough of the buying experience. Stop by her shop and see for yourself. You won’t be dissaapointed.

My fiancé went to a wedding expo and won a free tuxedo from The Tailory. I am SO GLAD that she did because I may have not found out about the Tailory and that’d be tragic.
When we arrived for the first consultation, we were warmly greeted by Garrett (the tailor who is outstanding) and she congratulated us on our engagement and winning the raffle. She led us into a backroom where her and Shao (founder /​tailor as well) started reviewing options for tuxedos with us and kindly offered me a scotch. Note: Hospitality is huge in my book so that went a long way. Nothing felt rushed and Garrett was very respectful of my preferences and offered good insight when I asked for her opinion on certain details
Fitting: Both Garrett and Shao measured me. They were very thorough about everything — double and even triple checking measurements. I really appreciated it because of my build it’s often a challenge getting the right measurements to get a proper fit. The final product was phenomenal (I’ll post a picture after my wedding in August), but it really blew me away. The fabric quality and detail were excellent. And they were even kind enough to throw in a monogrammed pocket square and some extra monogramming in the tux as well.
I recommend the Tailory with no hesitation. You will get a very well made quality product along with great service. Can’t beat that.

I have not have to get a suite for interview for 15 years, but I have never thought I could afford a tailored suite. I thought, what the heck, to get myself a present. Very happy with the experience as the designer is able to… spot your deficiencies and make the appropriate design to cover it. The tailored fit really gives you the confidence that I have not gotten from big stores. Highly recommended!

When I met Shao 5+ years ago she was a designer at MySuit. I was totally blown away by Shao’s understanding of men’s suiting and her ability to explain every aspect of what makes a great suit, a great fit, and a great look. Stated simply, she is the BEST! 1. Shao is an incredible designer and is very well versed in the history of suit making, having a deep understanding of traditional versus modern styles, patterns, and tastes. I love picking her brain because she knows so much, and drawing on her knowledge allows me to make better decisions in the customization process.
2. Shao takes suit-​fitting seriously and she is very good at it. Anyone who buys custom clothing understands the value of the fitting process. Time and time again I find myself astonished at the quality of the fit. Not only do I look great, but I feel great, and that is priceless.
3. Shao has very high standards and that is reflected in the process and in her selection of fabrics. She is very professional and courteous and goes far above and beyond to create a meaningful experience. She knows a lot about style, design, fashion and fit, but before every decision is made she walks me through it and allows me to have the final say. She brings great ideas and perspectives, but in the end I still feel in charge. I love that!

I was first introduced to the Tailory about 9 months ago and am now a loyal customer. I stopped buying off the rack about 5 years back but never found a tailor in NYC or overseas that did a great job. That was until I met Shao and her team. They are not only very friendly people but make incredible suits, pants, shirts, etc. All of the items I have ordered from them have been made in a timely manner and with great craftmanship. I will no longer let any other tailor handle my clothing needs because the Tailory does an amazing job. I highly recommend them.

I used to wear off the rack suits for some time and have always hated the process of buying a new one. So one day I decided to try a custom. My first custom suit made me feel like a million bucks, I thought to myself «what have I been doing all these years?». Ever since then it’s been expected, every suit should feel that way and the process as easy. Each shop was the same and each time the service the same. I thought I was doing it right. Then a friend tipped off me to The Tailory.
Man…what have I been doing all these years???
From the moment I walked in, I knew something was different. We’re not in a shop, there’s no storefront. It’s just you and designer, Shao, (who is also the owner) in the studio. The space is beautifully appointed, no gaudy décor, no flaunting of brands. Just essentials to get things done and make you feel at home. Which is also what you get from your time with her. She is super friendly, bright, and knows what you need before you even know it. It’s just so easy here. It just feels like stopping by a friend’s place for a chat and you’re on your way.

I do not buy any dress clothes off the rack anymore. I do not go to any other custom tailor. I have tried out many of the tailors in the city and none of them deliver the fit and timeliness of The Tailory. Shao and Garrett are the only two people I let make me clothes. That is the highest compliment I can pay.
