I found exactly the dresser I was looking for for my daughter-after the owner pointed it out to me. The price was a little high but… there it was! Easy transaction and pleasant experience. My kids carried it off the site and I couldn’t be happier.

After a childhood being dragged around flea markets, antique shops, and yard sales, I liked this spot far more than expected — guess absence(or just a better selection) makes the heart grow fonder.

This is hands down the most amazing antiques store I have ever been to. Amazing collection and range of items, many very well priced(and others expensive, but worth the $$). I visit NYC once a year and always make sure to pop into Upper Rust.

Great, wonderfully curated shop. Don’t be fooled by the Ave A locale; the look is squarely shabby chic/Connecticut cottage(expect lots of peeling painted wood, various nautical stuff, no Scandinavian midcentury, and less industrial than other similar area shops). Prices are«decent, for New York” – not cheap, and still more than you’d pay in the real world, but you don’t feel ripped off. Shopkeeper said hello, but otherwise left me free to browse, which was appreciated. It’s actually two small adjacent storefronts, so make sure you see them both. I didn’t end up buying anything, but will definitely return in a week or two. Lots of small pieces of furniture, tons of lighting, dozens of mirrors, and of course, endless ephemera. You have to search, because stuff is layered and layered and layered.

I was not in a shopping way that glorious afternoon we spent in the East Village/Alphabet City but I was rabid to take some photos when behold!- we stumbled up 9th Street and came across this lovely shop, Upper Rust Antiques, that was just begging to be photographed. Its sidewalk display of shabby chic type items mixed in with some farmy type stuff merely hinted at the treasures to be found inside. Items were not just strewn about but presented with a deliberate and acute eye in little vignettes. Everywhere one looked there was much to be taken in from vintage(spools of thread, free standing letters and signs) to the classically inspired(a Roman type bust wearing a 20th century hat) to the Fin de Siècle inspired(a wire Tour d’Eiffel complete with plug in lights). Lots to look at! And it was FUN to take photos… While I did not need anything that day it is a great resource to keep in mind and return to when I need to appoint my new digs with some old time objets… Of course their inventory is not constant so if you see something you have to have, get it as it will likely be gone the next time you try to find it. I love love love this song.

Upper Rust has a great selection of home furnishings. I like to go here for design ideas and unique finds. Last visit I found a lot of DIY inspiration and walked away with a pair of coat hooks. Definitely worth checking out as you stroll through this neighborhood.

love this vintage store! so many cute items to look at and find inspiration — vintage manequins, tables, chairs, glass cloches, mason jars, mirrors, framed art, etc. slightly on the pricey side(i was looking at their bigger items) but these can definitely be the spotlight piece in your home or furniture collection.

It’s a really nice place that I have on my to «go to list» when I am in Alphabet city. You will always find something you like: old frames, baskets, porcelains, chairs. It’s very shabby chic style, and affordable. My last finding was an antique mug celebrating King Edward VIII. I wish they had a website

I absolutely love this place! I have only bought a thimble for my mother years ago but I always make a point to either walk by or silently waltz thru the tiny aisles clad with green glass, blue stencils, ink stained mirrors, white washed wooden objects and geometric turkish lamps. I often find myself getting wistfully emotional as I stare at one particular thing that has me recall my first ballet teacher, Mrs. Penny Imray. The flow of the store inside and out is like a ballet. Great job to the owners. Thank you for stirring good memories and romantic ideals. Beautiful!

I got an entire set of juice glasses and cocktail glasses for nearly nothing. Well, nicer than what I would have gotten at K-Mart, but for a slightly higher price. Still though… because I bought the set there was a slight discount. So two discounts, heck yeah! The shopkeeper was incredibly friendly. I’m young, but my mother raised me on how to shop for antiques. And this shop is full of surprises. I was afraid to continue looking at stuff. Seriously, antique shops are the bomb. And this place hit that note for me today. I totally would have spent more, but it was my friends birthday weekend, soooo had to hold back a few hundos. I’m kidding, it’s not that expensive unless you want that redic mirror… I’ll be heading back to redecorate my new pad soon. Stuff is priced to move.

Very cute little neighborhood curio store. Some things are pricey but you can always find a great gift or household knick-knack within your budget. So far I’ve bought a cast-iron whale that double as a bottle opener, a vintage blue mason jar, and several cool vintage Christmas ornaments. The owner, Kevin, and his staff are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely the type of place you just want to stop by even if you aren’t buying anything(which you probably will be when some cool rustic piece d’art catches your eye.) Do yourself a favor and stop in. Daisies always look better in vintage glass.

Great curated store… antiques range from aged wooden mirrors to antique locks and trinkets. Framed taxidermy originals and beautiful ink drawings adorn the walls. Prices are fair, the owner is engaging and friendly. A true, fun find.

This is a wonderful little shop with such great finds and the prices are very reasonable. The owner is so friendly and fun that you want to go in just to see him. I have bought so many interesting items ranging from a gorgeous antique school chart to a beautiful old flag pole with a star finial on top to a bunch of really cool mini license plates(3“x4″) in great colors that are from all different countries that I use on old bicycles. Again, it’s a place to pop into.

This store is basically a AMPED up and overdone version of what my dream apartment would look like. They buy well and the prices are fair for NYC, but of course, high if you lived anywhere else. The selection makes it worth it and the staff is very very good — -like shopping in a best friends house — if your friends had amazing taste and 1,000 tiny objects everywhere. PS — their selection of xmas ornaments is insane.
