The View

I LOVED going to The View. We showed up at 7:30AM and there were about 5 people in line so we went over and grabbed Starbucks. We came back and a few more people were there. Then the show helpers came out and said they would start letting people in early! Around 8:15 they did so and in the meantime a food truck came over offering free breakfast to the View audience. I did not partake as I had the Starbucks. They also offer umbrellas to buy as it was raining.
Once inside they had a Starbucks in the waiting area where we all were. The bathroom part was a little odd as you had to wait in line to go over to the lobby to use it.
The crew was very nice and the best part was the show!
EVERYONE is on camera at some point and while there are preferred areas like behind Whoopi and the ground floor no matter what you will have a good time!

First of all, they don’t treat audience members very well during the «check in «process. Waited outside in the cold for 90 minutes, then they told us they were doing us a favor by letting us inside the building 15 min early. It’s cruel and unusual punishment to make human beings suffer then tell them they are lucky and should be grateful. Aren’t the audience (the fans) the people who pay the studio’s bills in the end?
And the bathroom situation is RIDICULOUS. They escort you in groups of 6 to a bathroom with 3 stalls. Then you have to wait for the other 5 people to finish for them to take you back to the holding area. Felt like prison.
Then both Whoopi and Joy were out the day we went so the show itself was subpar. Glad I had the experience, but wouldn’t go back.

I’ve been an audience member on a few of these live shows, however this was my first time attending The View! For an 11 am show time, we were expected to check in at 9 am. The checkin process was quick and efficient (just had to show ticket and ID), were given wristbands, and then escorted into the holding room where they gave us juices while we waited (had to arrive early for other shows as well. However was given nothing while we waited!) I thought that was a nice touch. The holding room also has a Starbucks inside.
Even going to the bathroom was an organized and Efficient process. But I won’t go into that (you’re welcome)
Around 1030 they called us up by the last 3 digits on our wrist bands and were taken to the studio. So cool! Seating was seemingly random, so it doesn’t make a difference how early you check in, you are pretty much seated by wherever they decide to put you. Luckily for us, we were placed in the front row!
Now it’s funny, as organized and efficient it was to be an audience member — that didn’t seem to be the case on the actual show. Now I realize when you have a live show with 5 co-​hosts talking about real topics. It must be very difficult to keep any sort of time line or structure. In between takes is when (we were told) they are supposed to interact with audience member and answer questions… However they seemed to only conversate amongst themselves and pretty much ignored the questions that they were being asked. Maybe they were still working out the kinks from it being the second episode after season première?
In any case, it was still a really cool experience that I would do again (esp if there was a really neat guest). Raven Simone is hilarious, so is michelle Collins, joy and whoopi are great at giving different perspectives to the topics being discussed.
Expect your hands to be red after all the clapping!

I probably should not admit this but over the years i have been to this show more than any straight man should admit. It was an experience though I must say. The lights, cameras and positive environment of a tv studio. Barbara Walters is The mastermind behind this talk show and she was a regular co-​host on here.
Now on to the show, The guests I have seen in the past were Liam Neissen, Ryan Reynolds, 50 cent, Michael Douglas and my favorite episode featured Adam Sandler. It was a bunch of NYU students in the crowd, not old people as usual so I blended right in. In the time before the show, coffees and snack were provided before heading inside. The hosts were great to interact with.
The day I did meet Adam Sandler, the XM satellite Delphi Roady was given out to the studio audience and one free year of basic service and free activation. It was a great promo and great show to check out especially if visiting the NY area. Hosts now are different from when the whole business started, but that is sometimes a good thing.

I attended The View back in November and had a priority ticket. Although that does get you in before general, it doesn’t matter. Like many other reviews on here say, it’s at random where you sit because they take certain sections at a time, although you can sit anywhere when you are in the holding room before the taping. They have snacks and coffee/​hot chocolate at a food truck type thing outside before you go inside to enjoy. Sadly, I knew about it but didn’t take advantage of it. I did enjoy the taping but the Behind the scenes were not my favorite at times. Although I did get to ask Rosie a question which was cool. If you want something cool to go to and to possibly see a guest or two you may like, then definitely go!

An update to my previous post: This show has moved to West 66^th Street location. Shorter wait outside & seated area inside. Better than THE VIEW’S previous location!

When I first came to the show on July 17, 2014. The show’s producers served us those delicious Chex Party Mix Snacks and Apple Eve’s Apple Juice and that was cool! Then I met Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and their guest co-​host Rene Shyler too! But Jenny McCarthy wasn’t that day. And I also saw their three special guest stars including Modern Family’s Julie Bowen and Kim Field & Lisa Whelchel from TV’s The Facts of Life and that was awesome! I’m a definitely come back again in December when they giveaway Macy’s gift cards!

I had a reason to watch today. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother. The ‘hosts’ cackle and giggle and act like a bunch of seventh graders using dirty words for the first time. (Sorry I said that: in fact, I don’t mean to slam seventh graders.) But this gaggle is shallow, giddy, insignificant, arrogant, loud and obnoxious. If you watch this, you need to read a good book or to get a productive hobby.

Just watch one current show… and you will be intriged by the constant hilighted «black» subject that is invisible otherway!!!
Also. Huge age discrimination gestures!!!
The RESPECT it’s earned by respecting not demanding!!!

Waited years to get tickets but after waiting almost 3 hours outside and in a «holding area» will definitely not go again. It was the most unorganized taping I have ever been to and if not for that, I would have enjoyed the show a lot more. Loved Whoop thoughi! She made it worthwhile!

The View always prerecords it’s Friday episodes on Wednesday afternoons & those are always the worst shows to watch because Hot Topics just drags on. No problem, it’s not like they’re psychics to know what’s going to be hot in the news two days later.
Well, I love The View… But after waiting almost two years to get tickets I was finally contacted for (nails scratching a chalk Board and banging your funny bone at the same time) a Wednesday afternoon taping for Friday. ((Oh God why me!) Like He has anything to do with it or even cares.)
But it’s Whoopi Goldberg (nough said) and Jenny McCarthy from Singled and Sherri Shepherd from Less Than Perfect and Barbara Walters. I love Barbara. My step-​daughters nickname is even Baba Wawa! So, to say the least I was still excited through the disappointment.
I fell like a deflated balloon. No Barbara Walters. It’s her last season and no Baba Wawa.

The other cohost were there but like most of the Friday episodes it just wasn’t good. I have no clue who the guest host was. I have no clue who the main guest was. He talked about some movie he was in. I dazed out a bit on his part. A quick feel good story & a Mario Cantone bit & I was officially overdue a nap which I took on the A train back to Brooklyn.
The live Wednesday morning show had guest, TLC & Thursday was Selena Gomez so I’m just saying Wednesday afternoons are bad.
Overall I’d go again. It was free & it was an experience. They gave us a snack when we entered in the studio. Wear comfy shoes be prepared to wait to wait some more. Use the bathroom anywhere else before you arrive. There are only three stalls in the ladies restroom & with almost 200 women there, the bathroom line has another line that is about 20 minutes long.
The most interesting part was during the commercial breaks when the hosts interacted & answered audience questions. That’s what The View should show on Fridays.
When I got home I sign up for tickets again and said a little prayer that I wouldn’t get Wednesday afternoon tickets again.

After two years of waiting for tickets, I finally got an email response from the show. We arrived early, like they suggested in the correspondence but still waited for 2 hours outside. We were finally shuffled into the set and they gave us some snacks for the wait.
Then, the show happened WITHOUT WHOOPI and after an hour, we were let out.
I felt underpaid after the entire ordeal.
Had a better time at Martha Stewart and Dr. Oz.

I decided to come here on standby a few days after Sandy hit because I noticed that the audience was a little empty the day before. It is HARD to get tickets for this show. I spoke to some audience members who told me they didn’t even remember when they requested them. I had tried attending a taping on standby once a few years ago and got turned away, but I figured my chances were pretty high this time.
I was hoping to get there by 9:30am, but because the subway was still having issues, I didn’t get there until about 10:15, and the show starts at 11:00. Lucky for us, there were still seats! We went in through security and up an elevator to the studio pretty quickly. We got seats toward the back, which I feel might have been good, because none of the cameras were in my way of seeing the table.
The warm-​up comedian, Tom Kelly, was pretty funny. I got to take some good photos because they let you take photos during commercial breaks, and the hosts are actually really friendly and will answer questions from the audience. Sherri and Elizabeth even came up and talked to people in the audience!
The staff for the show was really nice. After the show was over, they asked if anybody wanted to come back for a second taping (their Friday shows are apparently not live), so all we had to do was go downstairs, then get in line to come back up.
We got SO MUCH FREE STUFF I couldn’t believe it. From the two shows, I got two books, two CDs, a whole bag full of toys, and concert tickets! I’m already growing my Mitt Romney Chia pet.
The one negative thing I’d have to say is that being in the audience is really tiring. My hands hurt from clapping and my throat hurt from cheering. And the comedian will pick on you if you don’t do it!
I would definitely come back, but I don’t know if I’d ever be able to get in again…

Honestly, I don’t watch the show and for those seldom days and times when I’m home during the week to catch an episode, it never captured my interest. I am, however, a huge Whoopi fan… and that’s who I came to see!
I feel like starting with the good parts!
While in line outside the studio, they provide free coffee and pastries from a lil’ food truck. Juice, iced beverages and bagels or other fancier-​than-​just-​a-​pastry items are all just a dollar. Sweet! Upon entering the studio, we’re handed a bottle of juice and a pack of cookies right before we’re seated. Sweet again!
The show is taped LIVE live, as in airing NOW as you see it in the audience. The thought of anything that live freaks me out so much props to the hosts and crew.
I got in line early enough and had great seats! I was in the third row, no more than ten feet away from the actor whose movies I watched all my life, whose scenes I remember so lucidly, whose lines I can quote almost verbatim. Problem was, as close as I was to Whoopi Goldberg, I was behind her. My fanatic-​groupie-​tourist-​speed snapping only captured a few good shots of her. Great shots of all the others though, guests included.
Now for some venting and griping, but really, just some info so my fellow Unilocalers and readers know what to expect when in the live studio audience of The View.
My friend signed up for tickets so long ago that it was no longer in her memory until the letter and tickets arrived in her mailbox approximately two years after her initial request. The tickets that came in the mail do not guarantee entry and the letter clearly states that they always overbook. They advise us to get there early, around 9:15AM. Do NOT get there at 9:15AM! First come, first serve!
The show airs LIVE live at 11:00AM.
The studio doors don’t open till 9:00AM…ish.
I was instructed by my friend to arrive at 7:30AM.
I was the 15^th person in line, but by 8:15AM, the line was down the block!
So I wait outside for an hour-​and-​a-​half, coffee and waffle in hand.
Nowhere to release that cup o’ Joe once it went through me though.
We were ticket holders and we were handed numbers in the line.
These numbers were also our entry order.
Folks without tickets are given numbers for standby seats and instructed to return at 9:45AM to see if there are any open seats.
I believe I heard them say there are 200 seats.
We, ticketed and numbered folks, finally get in after 9:00AM…
Only to be scooted in and stuffed in the lobby…
To wait…
Till 10:20AM (ish) when they started letting folks up in the studio.
There was no waiting room.
Just this dense, high-​ceilinged-​but-​still-​stuffy lobby.
This is probably why they snacked us twice.
If you didn’t make it in, but you were in line, you’ll be given a chance to return for another episode and they’ll give you these precious X’s on your ticket to allow you priority seating.
They DO allow photos to be taken during commercial breaks…
BUT only with cameras, NOT camera phones.
They ask that all cellphones be turned off since they interfere with the wireless signals of the microphones and equipment.
Did I have a great time?
Yes, but I can’t tell how much of that was actual enjoyment of the show or just my personal infatuation with Whoopi.
Would I do it again?
Probably not. I’m not certain if it’s worth the wait, but I’m not totally against it either.
