The Works Studio

I’ve been taking a variety of different semi-​private training classes with Nina for the past 3 – 4 months. She is personable, energetic, knowledgeable, and pushes you not only to push yourself but to be grateful for the effort you’ve put forth. My favorite way to get in shape. Gym is clean and has a nice open floor plan quality to it where you can see everyone else also working very hard. Everyone there is serious about getting/​staying in shape and respecting one another.

I’ve been taking semi private classes with Nina at the works for the past 3 weeks and I feel amazing! She is exactly what I want in a trainer. She is motivating, fun, relatable and takes her time in each class to make sure everyone gets personal attention. She walks around to correct your form and in some cases adds or subtracts weight depending on where your comfortable. The class maxes out at 6 people so you really get a great workout with personal attention! I would recommend The Works and especially Nina as your trainer!

The Work Semi-​Private training is a great way to incorporate strength training into your workout routine. I’ve only trained with Nina, but she’s exactly what you want a trainer to be: professional, encouraging and attentive. Every class I’ve taken with her, I feel like she brings me to my maximum effort without pushing so hard I’m at injury risk. I usually shy away from weight workouts, but this one is absolutely fantastic. Could be done by someone brand new to working out or a seasoned athlete. A small class size, I believe 5 person max, lets Nina adjust everyone’s form to make sure all the students are using appropriate weight and doing the exercise properly. A small suggestion, I’d love to incorporate more stretching at the end. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

I’ve been taking The Workss semi-​private training classes through Classpass and I feel that the classes are both extremely challenging and fun, and that the trainers are excellent. The classes are very small and you truly feel like your getting a hands-​on personal training course. Both Nina and Rhiannon are motivational, extremely sweet and really care that your form is correct and that you’re okay with the weights and exercises they’ve chosen for the class. This place is a hidden gem and I highly recommend i!

I really wanted to like the Works, as it was super convenient to my apartment and the people, for the most part, were extremely nice. However, after multiple issues with the diet they gave me (I gained weight and inches in the first 20 days, and then went to get a second opinion with a dietician who completely changed the diet), as well as a completely unprofessional training experience, the co-​owner stepped in and tried to save my experience. This was extremely appreciated. Nina offered to train me to finish out my contract, and my three remaining sessions were great. However, I was explicit in saying that I did not want to continue my contract, and they charged me for the following month anyway. As soon as I saw the (sizeable) charge hit my account, I emailed Nina and she assured me that this would be taken care of right away (refunded the next day). That was now 20 days ago, and the charges are still on my card. I have emailed the Works and Nina 5+ times in the past 3 weeks to check on the status of my refund, and have received absolutely no response. Overall, my experience here was poor and unprofessional at best — I cannot recommend them in any way.

I booked a sculpting class at this great boutique studio with Nina. WOW! Nina is an amazing instructor. FULL of energy, very motivating, encouraging, and funny. The workout was killer, she corrected everyones form, she pushed everyone, and and I felt so accomplished after. My body was shaking, but well worth it all…
Nina is offering a new sculpting series and I just signed up for this 12 weeks series. I love the space. Small, boutique, and you can feel Nina’s energy and presence all around. I can’t wait to start her new series– Sculpt yourself Sexy by Nina. Hopefully I will look like her in just 12 weeks…

The Works is the best! I used to be an avid cycler/​barre person and had no clue how to eat right or train — and just three weeks into their Hot in the Winter challenge and I’ve seen my body change in ways it never has before. The individualized support and nutritional guidance is exactly what I needed to get ready for my wedding. Could not recommend more to anyone!

don’t be scared of their sketchy web site. their studio is great, their trainers are great, their programs are great, everything is great about them!
i have gone to cardio, muscles are the new sexy, as well as their semi-​private training through classpass. i am obsessed with classpass (as you’ll be able to tell from my other reviews) but this is the only studio that i have considered purchasing a package from because not only is their pricing very competitive (read: BETTER DEAL THAN), but their trainers are really good and non-​judgmental and easy going but tough at the same time.
i’ve worked out with 3 trainers: an italian man, vinny, and natalie. natalie’s my favorite, but i think i have a bias towards female trainers. but she’s funny, relatable, encouraging, attention to form, gives corrections with a genuine smile, the list goes on. she’s usually the girl at the desk, but i take saturday morning muscles with her. yaaaaasssssss
small locker room (one shower, one bathroom stall) but the whole point of their gym is small classes/​training sessions, so i don’t think that would be a problem. i never go to the morning classes though, so i don’t know if it gets crazy, but at night/​weekends it hasn’t been a problem.
another thing — their email list is not annoying (ahem, barry’s…) so extra plus plus.
the only negative thing is i HATE their rowing machine. i’ve never seen one like it, the wheel has real water in it… the slide is weird. i never feel like i’m able to reach my full catch position. you don’t use it though for their classes so shouldn’t be a problem. the rest of the equipment is clean.

I signed up with The Works Studio to enter the bikini competition, however I wanted more guidance in training on my form. Instead I decided to hire a personal trainer along with a nutritional support to assist me on losing weight and learning proper form on my exercises. I have to say I took the 3 months package deal and lost about 25 pounds. I enjoy working with Danielle and Ed for all their support and guidance in helping me reach my goal. I will enter competition next year but I am still focus on my training and getting marvelous results. I am so grateful for all the support. Thanks Jennifer, Ed, and Danielle and all the staff members at the Works. Every time I walked into the Studio I felt a lot of warmth with all the staff members. No judgments at this particular gym.

I’ve been going to the Works for about 6 months now and there are a few things that help this place stand out. First, it’s dedicated for personal training, so you can schedule a training during busy hours without worrying about interference from a gym crowded with other people trying to do their workout. Second, the trainers are top quality. Third, the training packages come with weekly counseling from a nutritionist. Fourth, it’s not more expensive than a trainer at your regular gym, but you get a lot more for it. It is a warm, welcoming place!

The works an absolute amazing gym. The have guided me with eating properly as well as how to build and create a body that I have dreamed of. Still in the process of getting to my goal of competition ready but without my Coach at Thr studio I would not have been even close that goal. I can’t say enough about them. I’d give them 100 stars if that was possible.

The Works is great!!! I came here after an illness to rebuild my body. They listened attentively to what my loooong list of issues was, and designed a workout that would build me up without aggravating anything. THANKS GUYS!
I went here for 3 months and lost a LOT of fat. I only lost about 10 lbs total but I’m positive that i lost a lot more than 10 lbs of fat, I dropped about 3 sizes. And I’ve got a «fitness model» shape that I never had before, which I’m really liking.
Everyone here is SO NICE. They are super fun to work with. I’m not going to lie — this is a HARD WORKOUT. You can’t come in here and be half-​assed about anything. But you WILL get in shape and lose weight.
The price is REALLY GOOD for what you get. I had trainers at David Bartons, Crunch and NYHCR try to sell me monthly training packages for $ 1000, $ 1200 etc. My price for 2 sessions a week, homework to do at home, AND a dietician visit once a week was only around $ 500. That’s really really good. It puts it within reach of more people’s budgets.
Trainers Katherine and Dane were the best! Joe the Orthopedist is REALLY GOOD, within 2 visits he had helped a shoulder issue I had a lot. He accepts some insurances.

I just wanted to say that I’m having LOTS of fun enjoying the figure I had before I got sick, and now I know ways to KEEP it that way thanks to them :) This place is so worth it!

This review has been a long time coming.
I first started training with Jennifer (the studio’s owner) nearly a year and a half ago when she was still working as a personal trainer out of another gym down in Tribeca. I was looking for a place to work out with a trainer that was close to my place of employment. When she opened The Works in Chelsea, I still kept going. When I got a new job in Washington Heights, I still kept going. The training I receive here is well worth the 50-​minute commute.
I’m a roller derby skater and scheduling training sessions helps me ensure I squeeze in some cross-​training. Jen is always very cognizant of my derby schedule and never pushes me too far or makes me overwork my legs if I’ve had a particularly full week of practice or scrimmages.
The studio is pretty small but it’s not really a problem. Since it is exclusively personal training, there seems to be a max of 3 – 4 trainers working with clients at any given time.
As another reviewer mentioned, their website isn’t the greatest, but don’t let that deter you.
I seriously wish I had the time and money to go 2−3x/week. Working out at The Works has helped me discover that I really like weightlifting. Someday after I retire from derby I know I will be a full-​time gym rat. Or maybe I will join the Team Works figure and bikini team. ;) Only time will tell!

The Works is great. I’ve been training with Dane for over 2 years now, starting when the gym was under different management. I’ve had great results losing a lot of weight and gaining muscle. The addition of Jennifer and her team was a godsend to the gym as she came in and completely renovated the space, brought in new equipment, training philosophies, and breathed new life and energy into it (and brought back the towels!).
While I primarily workout with Dane, I have worked out with many of the other trainers and can say they are all great and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend Dane and The Works enough as I have seen tremendous results. They offer a free trial workout, so how could anyone actually pass that up?

Full-​service training! I work with Kate who is organized, flexible and understanding of the busy lives we all lead! So far I don’t look like a fitness model BUT I am encouraged to work out HARD and motivated to eat clean!
Also great that we can work out at Tribeca Health & Fitness but do my other workouts anywhere. Good pricing for the level of expertise vs. some joker at your average gym.
