When you live in this area of midtown, you’re constantly on the hunt for affordable places to eat since most restaurants are catered towards the businessmen and tourists that end up here. Thank god this place is inches from my apartment, because its one of the few affordable and delicious places in this area. Pros: — the food. Everything is great. My favorites for appetizers are the tofu and the spring rolls. For the entrees, the Pineapple and Chicken fried rice is amazing, as well as the Pad Thai and all the curry items. The best thing about the food here is that the portions are HUGE, so if you grab dinner here you’ll definitely leave with lunch for the next day. –Not only are the portions huge, but most of the dinner items are around 12 – 15 dollars, which is insanely cheap for this area, especially when you consider that you’re probably getting two meals out of it. Cons: None really. Occasionally their credit card machines break down, so definitely go with cash just in case. One time when I was there with a friend, the machines broke down so they had us leave our IDs with the waiter while we went to the bank. When we got back, our ID’s were sitting on our table in the middle of a busy dinner service which was disconcerting. The waiting area is really small as well, so if there are more than two people in front of you waiting for a table, you’ll probably be waiting outside. Honestly, the food is so good that no cons even matter.

I don’t enjoy writing bad reviews but I enjoy bad food even less. My family ate here for dinner tonight and bad food is what we got. Pad thai tasteless and drunken man noodles hot but no flavor. The service was well intentioned but also bad. Then as a topper they charge as much as a Starbucks for a cup of tea. Yuch.

Stop by for lunch and order one of the famous«Dancing Chicken» or Pad Krapao Kai un Thai. I found it very delicious spicy and not too oily. Besides delicious food, the service also beyond expectations. I’ll definitely come back again.

Nothing special about the food. Tasted bland and boring. The glasses in which they served us water had a lipstick stain from before. When we pointed this out to the waiter, he didn’t say a worf and quickly took the glass in the back. Don’t plan on coming back.

I would come here for their lunch menu and get their drunken chicken noodles. It is not bad but the wait it terrible. I waited with my colleagues for 30 minutes. The restaurant is small and is NOTADA accessible.(not wheelchair friendly) You have to walk down a few steps to reach the restaurant and then there’s literally no space to move especially during lunch hour. They used to give shrimp chips with the lunch but they discontinued that. The last time I went, we waited so long for take out and I opened my food when I got back to work but lo and behold I see the MOSTDIRTYANDDUSTY plastic container with my food inside. It was so unappetizing looking at it that I had to wipe it away. I hope Topaz can clean their containers before they serve to their customers.

Food was mediocre at best. Asked for fresh spring rolls and the waiter brought out fried springeolls. The thai iced tea was way too sweet and the drunk noodles were fried to death. To top it all of they added 18% gratuity without letting me know. Good thing I saw on the check. I won’t be back.

I’m sick and tired of everyone’s ethnic problems. This restaurant is a perfect example of how having incompetent staff and management can mar good food. The food is tasty, pretty authentic, and when I requested spice, lo and behold it was there. I almost gave 5 stars to the establishment! However, the service personnel should be more keen on posterity and etiquette. When an adjacent party still had drinks in their glasses, and the restaurant has an operational bar, you cannot under any circumstance announce that your guests must leave to make way for another party. That’s bad precedent. When the 4 top was replaced, the staff bent over backwards to accommodate that particular table. What bothered me was when I was served the adjacent table’s chicken dishes. I don’t need nasty dishes flying by me. I have my food preferences, and understand the problem of a small space, but if a waiter is reaching over my table, Or is too close to my table, or if food flies and you were too close to my face, hair etc, there’s a problem. On top all this, there was an 18% tip tacked on for two people!!! I don’t care if your patrons are mostly asian and don’t tip, I don’t care if you say you have too many foreign patrons, who forget to tip, you don’t tack on 18% for 2 people who ordered two entrees. Enjoyed the food, but there are too many options in NYC for this type of nonsense.

I have beem to thailand for travel many year, during that time I tried different food from there and I just like thier fried rice. Since then I always tried to find a local great thai resturant, and try out their fried rice. the one from this resturant tasted just amazing. It made me feel like i was in thailand all over again. I also ordered a seafood soup. well, that was good as well, but it was quite spicy fo me. My partner also enjoy his ordered pretty much. But After the meal, we were about to pay, the waitor brought us the check, we wanted to pay the tip and the price of the meal separated, which we told they. But they charged us all at once. And we try to undone it, the waitor started with us. I don’t think that wasn’t really nice from the Resturant. Well, to be honest, our firends whos are local here, told us some the gernally Tip people can give is 10−15%, which is basically the same in europe. but this place on the check was writing on 18−26% for tip. This was already not really nice, beside how many tip shold gave should be decided by the guest not the waitor. the Suggestion tips which is just an suggestion. They made it, instead of that fight for the tips was not even giving yet. that was a big let down. Beside that, the restaurant is in quite a good location. It isn’t so difficult to find. It isn’t bad place for a Thai food lover and it open quite late. But again, the down side is how much they want as tips and how they handle it thing. I don’t know if that happended often here. But if you don’t mind about this. Why not.

Worst customer service ever. They do not take accountability for their crap service and when you complain, they send out some«manager» who is actually a server and/or a bartender. Therefore, I will no longer be dining at this restaurant, especially when it takes over an hour and a half to get the entrees, and they forget to even bring out the appetizers. Side note, if you do decide to dine here, avoid the server ACE.

My boyfriend showed me this place. We went for«brunch» — lunch on a weekend day. The room décor was not to my taste, but oh well. Service I can’t remember, but food was good — I love Thai food. Prices maybe a little on the higher side for that kind of restaurant.

Does the trick when I’m looking for some Thai food in a 2 block vicinity from the office. I usually order the pineapple fried rice or the pad thai lunch special and both are solid, not to mention the portions are also pretty large. You don’t get an app with the lunch special but they do give each table a basket of shrimp chips with peanut sauce. I haven’t dined in in a while but noticed that it has gotten much busier so come around 12 if you don’t want to wait for a table. $ 15 minimum if you want to pay with a credit card and take note that the tip is already added in!

Topaz is a mediocre Thai joint. Lunch prices are very reasonable for the area. You will have better luck ordering take-out than waiting for a seat. However if you do manage to snag a seat, be prepared to sit elbow to elbow with the table next to you and join in on whatever conversation they are having. The space is small and they try to pack as many people in as possible.

Came in for lunch with a friend the other day. Right away this wasn’t what I was expecting. The place is very small, as it’s a below ground establishment. It was also incredibly busy, which is saying something for a place that maybe seats only 50 people. The tables are tightly placed so you’ll be dining right next to strangers. Still, it’s not invasive. The noise level is a little above average but conversing isn’t difficult. We split an order of spring rolls which were clearly fresh from the fryer because they were very hot. The rolls are much smaller than other restaurants, but the dish comes with 8 rolls. I stuck with my personal favorite and ordered the chicken pad Thai. It was a decent portion and very good. It wasn’t bland and just the right amount of flavor. My friend ordered the drunken noodles which she said were very good. Total the bill came to $ 30 and change, which isn’t bad for mid-manhattan lunch. I’ll definitely be back!

I used to like this place a lot. Why? It’s somewhat hard to find a decent Thai place in NYC. Made reservations and came here on a rainy Friday night. Couldn’t get in to the restaurant because people were literally backed up to the door inside the restaurant trying to avoid the rain. Thankfully, I was seated right away. Fiancé and I ordered the ‘Swimming Duck’ and I forgot the name of my dish but it was a Noodles in Green Curry sauce with chicken and shrimp. First of, to those who enjoy those fried crackers that come out, it’s not fresh. Every time I go and try one they’re always stale, which means they’ve been sitting outside for days. So don’t eat that! Main Dishes: Swimming Duck — my fiancé thought it was extremely salty. They heavily salted this damn duck before roasting it. The sauce was meh My dish(forgot the name!) — they put two pieces of shrimp and about 8 pieces of chicken. The green curry sauce, which i know is sweet, was too sweet and my noodles were drowning in it without any vegetables. I don’t know how many times I had to ask for water. So, to the workers, I understand that it’s Friday night and people are lining up to be seated, but please don’t give us the check right away when we’re still eating. We had a couple next to us who paid beforehand and was finishing up their drink when the hostess comes up to them and tells them to leave so they can sit the next people. Also, the price for this place has skyrocketed.

Let me begin by saying this: I’m not a Thai specialist by any means so others may know better than I. Now, this place was good from the moment we walked. The décor of the restaurant is nice, dark and intimate. My date and I both agreed on that. Our servers were very attentive, however they were not on the same page at all. Three different servers came to our table to get our orders and we had to tell them that we had already placed our orders with one server. Lol The food was good and flavourful. I had a salmon with vegetable(can’t remember the name of the dish), my date had pad Thai noodles with chicken if I remember correctly and she enjoyed her good just fine. I was spicy just the way she likes it. The cost wasn’t bad either. Especially for where it was located. Our meal came to less than $ 50. I’ll definitely make this restaurant a regular for when I’m craving Thai food.

I was quite looking forward to an excellent meal here seeing how the number of good reviews it has gotten. However I should have took a closer look at the more recent ones where it does seem there’s been a quality drop at the restaurant. The proximity close to Carngie Hall is probably a big reason why its a popular choice around the area. We had a 8pm reservation on a Thursday night for a large group(12 ppl) Upon arrival we got seated right away as the restaurant was quite empty. It was quite small that basically all the seats were filled when another large party also booked at the restaurant around same time. The servers themselves were pretty attentive and moved quickly to get our orders and waters but I think after we got our orders in things started going downhills a bit. Perhaps its because the kitchen is downstairs or something but it seems there’s a huge disconnect between the kitchen and the servers. The appitizers didn’t took too long to come out and tasted pretty good although was bit too much sauce in my opinion. After the appitizers it must have taken closer to 45 – 60 min before our orders finally came out with the whole group starving. However what I found pretty substandard was that the entrée was actually getting to be cold with the duck meat only lukewarm and the sauce was cold. That to me sounds like the food were done a while ago but they just didn’t get around to bring it out and that was quite disappointing indeed. The food themselves were mediocre, while the duck meat was juicy and crispy skins I found the sauce again to be way too overwhelming and salty. More so than the typical Thai curry sauces that I’m usually fond of. I also tried a bit of the Crying Tiger which is marinated steak with side of sticky rice. The meat was so salty and drenched in sauce that having the rice together was pretty much mandatory. In the end it was a disappointing meal and not likely to return again. I do have to say though the servers were quite friendly and if it wasn’t for the time it took for the food and the quality I don’t think this is a that terrible of a place.

Came here one day and saw a sign on the window«ORDEREDCLOSEDBYDEPARTMENTOFHEALTHOFTHECITYOFNEWYORK.» I did my research and saw a whopping 92 violation points, including evidence of mice, flies, and contaminated food on the NYC Health Dept. website. But I am an optimist(unfortunately)! After they reopened(Grade Pending), I decided to give this place a shot, a chance at redemption, a trial. But no, I too, succumbed and got sick from the food. Yuck. Save yourself some misery and go somewhere that’s actually clean. I can’t wait for them to be shut down by the health department again.

Management changed and things have gotten significantly worse. If you plan to go here for lunch, avoid going between 12:00 — 1:15. You will wait for a while. It’s not necessarily because there are people waiting for a small number of tables, but the service tends to be very slow. The wait for a table was about 45 minutes and it wasn’t worth it at all. They give you prawn cracker/puffs complimentary, but the girl giving these out was very slow and skipped our table. We had to ask for it twice before they finally brought over a basket. Food quality is average at best. Chicken pad thai noodles were mushy and there was what seemed to be a few pieces of grilled, mostly flavorless chicken added into it. They were somewhat good at refilling the water at our table though. They may ask you to pay in cash because their credit card machine is having issues. They just want cash to avoid paying fees. Just pay with a credit card. New management removed a few items from your lunch specials menu. They charged for rice for a tofu dish that came with rice before(at the same price, and rice is now $ 2). Was a great place to go for lunch, but no longer. Between the wait and the nickel & dime attitude of the new management, this is a terrible place to go for lunch or anything. Can someone open up a decent Thai restaurant in midtown?

I think they recently switched management! My last couple of visits have been a very different experience. First the food – while still good, is now uninspired. The dishes are no longer as delicious and tasty. Dare I say, they’re a little bland. The chef must have changed. Additionally, while the menu seems unchanged, items that used to be standard accompaniments(e.g. peanut sauce for the rice crackers, rice for the curry dishes) no longer are. Servers used to be warm, friendly, and welcoming. They anticipated your needs and provided attentive service. No more! They have new wait staff, and they’re somewhat lackadaisical. I stumbled on this place a few years ago, and it quickly became one of my go-to spots for lunch or dinner whenever I was in the neighborhood. I really used to enjoy my dining experiences here. Prices were reasonable, and the food and service were superb. But everything in life changes at some point. I’m wide open to exploring other places and uncovering new gems. I’ll still come here on occasion, and they continue to do a brisk business, with crowds both at lunch and dinner time. I’m just no longer a major fan.

Salle à taille«humaine» — pour New York. Service rapide et sympa. Les plats correspondaient à nos attentes, pour un budget au final assez raisonnable(100 $ pour 3).
