Tryp Hotel

My fiancée and I stayed at the Tryp for 10 days over New Years. We had mostly stayed at 5 star luxury hotels in previous trips to New York, but decided to use up some of our Wyndham reward points over this stay. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this hotel.
It’s in a great area, the décor in the rooms is unique and fresh. Room had plenty of space for my stuff (and I brought a lot of clothing) I requested a microwave along with the fridge and it was provided immediately. They have a great restaurant, gym, rooftop with an amazing view and kind staff. Very laid back and cool atmosphere. SPECIAL thanks to the manager Herbert who went out of his way to make this stay one of our best and most memorable ever in New York City. I don’t say this often about hotels, but I will DEFINITELY be return.

This hotel was just okay. The rooms look nice and is close to everything, but has a lot of flaws for its price point. Solid 2.5 stars.
I’ll start with the pros: it’s close to Time Square, Madison Ave., and 5^th Ave., etc. They have wifi, cable TV, and the rooms look nice– which I’ll get into more details later. The rooms are unique, very different than what you’re used to.
It was my first time at this hotel or any TRYP hotel. Walking in seeing a one man check-​in counter kind of surprised me, granted it was 11PM when I checked in. But still, I saw the attendant was alittle agitated with the phone ringing and checking me in. Not to mention, I had a lot of bags and the doors were locked except for the revolving door and the door near the café.
Cons: I saw some gnats or flies in the restroom-​in the shower and toilet area. To be exact 3. Didn’t want to look closer. The shower kind of looked gross. Almost wish I bought flip flops. The circle pass through from the shower to the sink and counter area is novel but not thought out well. You can see how water has dripped through the edge of the counter and has warped the cabinet w water damage. There were also a few dropped items, btw this space. — The restroom was my main complaint. The rest of the room was okay. Wish it had a microwave and the mini refrigerator
Wasn’t on the floor.
The gym left a lot to be desired. Very minimal equipment, no weights but it did have treadmills and a weight training system.
Not sure i’d come back to this hotel for my next visit. I’m sure there are others in the area that offer similar amenities and similar prices. Look around before deciding.

I booked a family room last minute on New Years Day assuming this hotel had good ratings and looked decent. The front desk was horrible, there was one person but it shouldn’t be so hard to check someone in and it’s not supposed to take 20 minutes. There was a customer who looked like they’ve been tired of waiting for her to be finished with whatever she was doing with her computer that the customer decided to sit down until she was called. When I told her we were checking in, she replied «you will have to wait, I am currently working on checking someone else in and it’s only me in the front» with an attitude.
The staff clearly has a bad attitude and did not have enough knowledge or experience to handle simple tasks. This is the first time I had to wait so long to check in and to deal with front desk who looked like I owed her something. Along with this, I booked this hotel room through
which I have been charged for but Tryp Times Square South also charged me a separate charge so I called but no result. This man picked up and sounded like he was raising his voice and not wanting to listen to what I was saying. He also said the same words as the front desk lady said, you will have to call back tomorrow from 9 – 5 p.m. because «it’s only me in the front tonight».
I am never coming back to this hotel until their staff and customer service has improved.
On a side note, make sure your bath towels are not ripped up and your hot water works! You also might need to change your bartender.

Three things i was looking for in a hotel on my first trip to New York.
1. Safe area
2. Quiet room
3. Close to all the sights
These three items are exactly what I found at this hotel.
1. Safety, this hotel is next to the police station.
2. We were on floor 14 so it was pretty quiet for New York. Heard a truck or siren now and then but managed to get through the night without a sound.
3. Walk a few blocks down and there is time square
We found a deal online for fourth night free and rooms half the price. Room was clean, good size bathroom, has a fridge and safe.
Even if you put your do not disturb sign up they will knock on your door to clean… Not sure why. Also if you get there late they run out of pillows.
They have a restaurant and bar in the hotel but we didn’t stay there since all the places to eat were so close!
Great first experience in New York.

This hotel is really nice. Very well decorated spacious rooms. Modern bathrooms. Nice bar in the lobby to hang out at. Brand new.

Excellent customer service! My boyfriend & I received such a warm welcome from the Manager, Herbert Perez, and the Assistant Manager, Gennaro. They were so nice! The room was spectacular-​great décor! Loved the bathroom. Later that evening, Herbert helped us with our dinner plans, evening out ideas for some fun in NYC, and even breakfast spots the next morning! Herbert made our day! It was such a pleasure!

Booked through a deal on Travelzoo. It came out to be less than $ 200 per night (out the door, including all the taxes and fees), which is a steal in Manhattan. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the hotel. But we really only used it as a place to sleep. We didn’t utilize the bar or restaurant or concierge service. When I first arrived in the morning after a red eye, I lucked out and there was a no show the night before so I was able to check in right away. Score! The room is huge, by NY standards. There’s a big foyer area with a desk and dresser. Then a half partition with two queen/​full size beds. Plenty of room around the beds for you to walk around with your luggage out too. Giant flat screen on the wall for your viewing pleasure. Then the bathroom was pretty big too. The toilet, sink, and shower (with enough room for two, haha) had its own spot and wasn’t on top of each other. Everything was clean and the maids did a great job for the three nights we were there. I really liked our rooms — plenty of room. Location wise, they call it Times Square south. But you’re really close to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. It’s also conveniently located a block from the A, C, E subway line. But to get there, down 35^th Street, there’s not too much around so it can be a little sketch at night. Late night, we definitely saw some rats in the garbage on the street. Haha. My only minor thing was that they charge for storing your bags after you check out. And then when we went to go pick up our bags, they first brought out the wrong bags so I was super worried that they lost our bags but they eventually brought the right bags up. Anyways, I would definitely consider this hotel again for any future NY trips.

Outstanding hotel/​LOCATION with super cool and friendly staff! My GF left her cellphone/​life in the room and it was immediately picked up and protected by housekeeping! Genarro at the front desk was very helpful and made our stay perfect! Our room was the premium corner room 1001 and it had a comfortable king size bed 2 full baths and a queen pullout great for families with kids!!! Ive been to many hotels in NYC but would only come back to this one!

Horrible experience! I checked in and finally get my room which was supposed to be for 2, one king bed and got a family room with bunk beds. as I, already unsatisfied, start to settle down I see that my bed sheets were dirty!!! Furious, I go downstairs and they agree to switch my room. so I agree hesistantly. I get into my next room and my sheets are also dirty!!! So horrible, the cleaning staff was so unapologetic and it was just a waste of time!!! Would never come back.

If I were solely rating the room I stayed in, I would definitely give it five stars. I stayed in «family room» which is equivalent to a suite. It fit 7 people comfortably, with bunk beds, two full beds, a pull out couch, and two bathrooms. It was extremely spacious. However, the three star rating is based on the subpar customer service.
As previously mentioned, I stayed in a large room, which meant we needed extra pillows. When I called the front desk, they told me that they «sold out» of extra pillows. The following morning, I called to request yet again for extra pillows and some extra towels. As opposed to just taking my request, I’m not sure who answered my call, whether it was the concierge or the front desk, the employee insisted on transferring me to someone else. I waited on the phone for 5 minutes and nobody picked up my call to take my request. This happened yet again later in the afternoon when ordering room service.
The hotel staff did not seem to be apologetic over any issues that occurred throughout our stay. A friend of mine was given a key and directed to what she thought was our room. It turns out that the front desk instructed to her go to a room that wasn’t even on the same floor. Needless to say, she walked in on the guest staying in that room. When informed, the employee simply just gave the correct key card without apologizing for the confusion.
My flight home did not leave until the late evening, meaning I had to leave my bags with the hotel. They charged me $ 1.00 per bag, which I found to be absolutely ridiculous, since I was just a guest at the hotel.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Vinyl floors. Vinyl furniture. some dude clomping around above me … which is super easy to hear because Wyndham is too cheap to put CARPET in the rooms. I CAN’T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE THE EXTENT TO WHICH I HATE THIS PLACE.
40 minutes to check in at 9pm on Sat.
Nothing to eat because kitchen closes at 9:30. On Sat night. In Manhattan.

Tryp Tryp Tryp — We booked via Expedia, and hadnt really thought much about the location of this hotel. Up writing this, it seemed kinda dumb not to think about the location. It was 4 stars and moderately priced, so we booked.
We where pretty impressed with this hotel. There are two in New York, based on reviews we picked the best one. The location for this Hotel is perfect for a city explorer. Penn Street station is a few blocks away meaning transport up and down Manhatten and onwards is really accessible.
Also the hotel is close to a number of the best tourist attractions in New York city. Upon arrival the concierge offered to take our bags. We politely declined, but i was really impressed. When we got into our room, i was again surprised. The room was very spacious and was decorated well.
We only learned on the last day of your Trip that this hotel has a rooftop terrace. I was rather upset by this as i the heat was 33 degrees most days and this would have been a really nice to have kicked back in for a day, during our stay.
There is free WIFI, but this was pretty poor. I had better mobile internet speeds that the WIFI. If i return to New York, i will make a point of staying here again.

Beautiful. Cool. Close to everything. Customer service was excellent, even tho there was a mixup on our reservation, and they even stored our bags while we went to brunch. I will definitely recommend and stay again.

Stayed here during my trip and found that I really like boutique hotels.
Room was very clean and looked new w/​a chic yet small bathroom. They use Zero Percent products — very luxurious. They also included a welcome gift which consisted of a fruit/​cheese plate and wine.
Service was great and hotel is conveniently located.

Avoid this place like the plague. You know it’s bad when the night manager asks you to complain loudly in the morning that way he will get some support in the future.
My daughter wanted to visit Times Square with a couple of her friends for her birthday so we booked a Samsung room.
The room boasts 10 foot ceilings, wii gaming system, refrigerator, bathrobes and slippers, free bottled water, a skylight, a rain forest shower, and a sound system that would «blow your mind «
The only thing that blew our mind was the lack of attention to detail and service.
–First of all there was only a 10 foot ceiling in about a third of the room, the rest had a lower than normal ceiling.
–there was no bathrobe and no slippers.
— we had to ask for the bottled waters and only given one for each person. When we asked for a couple more the next night we were told that they were only free on check in.
–there was a skylight, but there was a shade on it with no way to retract it.
–there were no games for the Wii console.
–we couldn’t get the iPod dock to work and neither could the person they sent over from housekeeping.
–we asked for a couple pillows at night since there were five of us (it’s advertised as a room for up to six people) and were told they were out of extra pillows.
–there was no refrigerator in the room.
All these seem sort of petty, but adding them together certainly put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory family weekend.
The last straw occurred when we came back on the second night and my daughter took a shower and all of a sudden they handle came off in the shower stopped working. We were told by the night manager that there was no engineer on duty overnight and there’s nothing he could do. He did ask us to complain loudly the next day because he has problems all the time with plumbing and he knew that there was a problem with this room.
We asked if there was another room so my daughter could wash the soap out of her hair and we were told that there was none available but she could go downstairs to the employee shower in the basement. We declined, so there was my wife at 1 AM helping my daughter in the sink wash shampoo out of her hair.
He did apologize profusely and offered us free breakfast in the morning which we didn’t really care about but my wife and I went there in the morning to find a pitiful unappealing understocked breakfast (see photos)
The next morning at 11 AM someone came and we were told he could only partially fix it but couldn’t really repair it until Monday so my family and I decided to pack up and leave. We were told by the manager Shayla Madrigal that she would discount the room for us, but she never did.
We were also told that they could validate our parking for A discounted rate but when we came to the front desk on the way out we were told that they were out of vouchers and waiting for them from the accounting department so we went across the street and payed full price and ended up paying $ 113 for a day and a half of parking.
Once we were in the car heading home, hungry I’m showered and disappointed, I called to speak with Shayla and asked why she hadn’t just counted the room.
Not surprisingly, she had gone home for the day.
In summary, there are so many nice hotels in New York you definitely want to avoid this one…

We loved the Tryp and will certainly be back for our next get away!
After having a horrifyingly disgusting experience at the Hampton the night before we were so relieved and at ease with our experience here! Checking in was a breeze and the style of the hotel is amazing and different. I like different. It seems very geared toward millennials. The furniture is chic and the hard wood floors is a great touch! The room was quaint but comfy and very clean. And we LOVED the bathroom. The only reason the Tryp wasn’t given 5 stars was bcz of the ice machine and cost of fruit. There aren’t any ice machines on your floor. You need to go to the first floor through the gym. Also, 2 little square jars (1 honeydew and 1 cantaloupe) are $ 15. Come on guys at $ 3 per melon and considering you’re not getting half a melon the mark up is astronomical.
Despite melon-​gate, this place is amazing! 4 ½ Stars!

This is an outdated review of our 2^nd of two hotels while staying in NYC
+ Great staff. Friendly and accommodating.
+ Close to public transportation
+/​-​Next to the police station. (At first I thought it was weird, then we made friends wih the cops, lol.)
+ Restaurant/​bar on site. It isn’t anything big or fancy, but casual and the bartenders were great.
+ Rooms were very clean and modern.
— Don’t expect a fancy view.
+ Much quieter than in Time Square area though.
+ All toiletries are easily accessible. (There’s shampoo and soap dispensers in the actual shower.) At first, I thought it odd, but totally enjoyed it afterwards.
+ Decent prices for NYC.
+ Not super busy and small enough to be a surprisingly relaxing spot to end the day/​night.
Bottom Line: We were glad we ended at this hotel versus starting at it. We even wished we stayed her the whole time.

TRYP by Wyndham is a deal hotel. Great value for money. You’re in Manhattan and close to everywhere. Since I checked in I have been happy with the hotel. Room is clean, big and modern. They clean up room every day pretty well.
Perfect for couples or group of friends. Calm hotel. Bar and eating area has a great ambiance but little small for big groups. If I came again to New York Id come back here. Plus it’s close to the best bagel joint in town!!!

I’ve been in many hotels in NYC, and I will tell you that many «suites» are nothing more than a slightly larger room with an extra piece of furniture. Or the suite is pimped out and awesome, but costs a small mortgage payment for a one night stay.
That being said, the premium rooms at TRYP are hands down the best bang for your buck anywhere in Manhattan.
I needed a room for 6 people. Guys and girls. Attending a wedding and partying afterwards. This room was nicely decorated with modern amenities, 2 great bathrooms, 2 comfortable queen beds, and a pull out couch. Large enough to easily sleep 6 people. Large enough for 4 girls to simultaneously get ready for a night out. Complimentary Wifi, water bottles, and Keurig coffee.
Anytime I am with a large group for an NYC sleepover, I will 100% book this hotel room.
One really annoying and weird thing (although I won’t take a star away for it) the only ice and vending machine in the whole damn hotel is located on the lobby level… in the gym.
When you wake up hungover and dehydrated, you DO NOT want to do the walk of shame down 8 floors and awkwardly through the lobby and gym holding an ice bucket just to buy some damn Gatorade. Stupidest set up ever.
Other than that, however, this place is the tits.

Das TRYP liegt in einer «Seitenstraße». Aber in maximal zwei bis drei Minuten steht man auf der 8^th Ave mit einer Metro Station.
Der Madision Square Garden und die damit verbundene Penn (sylvania) Station sind nur eine Ecke entfernt.
Verkehrstechnisch gut erreichbar und schnell an (fast) jedem Ort in Manhattan.
Unser Zimmer ist erstaunlich groß für New York;dafür ist das Bad um so kleiner.
Aber alles sauber, preislich in Ordnung für New York, das Personal freundlich und das WLAN kostenfrei.

I would give this place 20 stars if Unilocal would allow it! This hotel is definitely as good as it gets. Not only is the location ideal, and not only is the hotel itself very clean and up to date, but it’s the staff that puts this gem of a place over the top!
Channel Garcia and the rest of the staff are definitely committed to making this place unbelievable! As soon as we checked in, Channel gave us the option of upgrading to one of their bigger, themed rooms for no extra charge! We were given a complimentary bottle of wine and a plate of fruits and cheeses. When I told the staff that I was going to «pop the question» while I was there, they were sooo helpful with suggestions and ideas. They even dropped off a card to our room!
All of this was in addition to the great hotel itself. The rooms are a great size, and all up to date with hard wood floors and a modern décor. You can’t beat the location either. The A, C, E line stops right down the block, and just 1 more street over is Penn Station and MSG. This is the perfect spot to stay if you’re coming to catch a show on Broadway. Either by train, cab or foot… Times Square isn’t far away at all.
I can’t say enough about this hotel and its staff. It’s the first Tryp in the country, and by the way their running this one, there will soon be many more across the US that you can try.
