Tussy Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

It’s not 2 months later and the relatively minor repair that I drastically overpaid for has now rebroken. I will need to find someone new because I won’t do business with them again.

I used him twice with no problem. But recently he did not show up for a scheduled appt. I called several times that day and was unable to get any information about whether he was coming or not. When I called the last time to say I couldn’t wait any longer, I got voice mail. No one ever called me back.

This is a small company and it is hard to set up appointments when it’s solely one individual doing all the man power he can offer. One of the appliances in the kitchen wasn’t working properly during the afternoon, this was not a good thing for us. Calling all other establishments from google search to Unilocal,none were available until Monday. Stuck in such a bad situation, Tussy caught my attention, left a voicemail and within an hour later he called back (in the middle of another job), luckily he was available the next day. The best part of this one man company, he had one of his employees called in later that evening (8pm) to confirm my appointment and gave me a time frame. This is a first for me, to have someone confirm my appointment and came literally on time. Parking is scarce in the city, no matter where you go, especially the fashion district — he came on time and was done within less than an hour. This fine gentleman gave a detailed description on what was wrong with our unit and how to maintain it properly before he went to work. Service, timing, educating about the device and his price was on par compared to other companies that charge an arm and leg. I highly recommend him, whether it is a big or small job.

Probably would have been a great repair guy, if he showed up and was communicative. His secretary called me around 9:30am saying he was trying to find parking. 10:30am came and he didn’t show up, so I called call back to find out that he went off to another client and might be back later. I placed follow-​up calls around 12pm and 3pm to try to get an update, and the secretary says he didn’t return her calls yet. Finally I call around 5:15 and secretary tells me he won’t be coming today and I would need to re-​schedule.
While I understand that they have busy schedules and would have been willing to reschedule, I am mostly upset that they didn’t have the courtesy to update me on his showing up later or that he wasn’t going to come at all. I took a day off work and spent the entire day at home waiting for him. Insane.
I ended up finding another great repair guy that showed up the very next day at the time promised and got the job done. he even came after work hours, so I didn’t have to take another day off.

Well, the reviews here sounded good, so I called them up about a 1-​year-​old air conditioner window unit that wasn’t cooling. The compressor came on at the set temperature, but no cooling, so it seemed pretty clear to me that it needed a charge of refrigerant.
First order of business was paying them $ 50 just to come and look at it, which got me the pronouncement that it needed refrigerant. For ANOTHER $ 150 they would do something about it. Rather than put more trash into a landfill, and send another $ 300 to China, I figured, why not repair it? So I let them take it to the shop, and they delivered it back the next day.
It worked, marginally, for about 3 days. My guess is they pumped in a fresh load of refrigerant without leak-​testing the unit. That’s 30 minutes of sloppy work for $ 200. Remains to be seen if they’ll have another go at it, and I’ll update this if and when they reply to my phone message. Meanwhile, I suggest you get it clear, in advance, what they’re going to charge you, and what guarantee they’ll give you on their work.
UPDATE: 5 years later, still waiting for that return call. LOL.

I am so impressed. Our air conditioner decided to break down just as the humidity is raging of course. So I called this place and the repair guy said he could be over in 30 minutes. Excellent! He arrived and was courteous and quick, and diagnosed that the computer is broken on my GE air conditioner and there’s nothing he could do – i need to order a new control panel. And then when I asked him how much I owe him, he said nothing. WOW! Who does anything for free anymore? I gave him a $ 10 tip and thanked him. I’m just so impressed at how quick, efficient, and not greedy this guy was. Definitely call him if your air conditioner is busted! And he recommends to not ever buy one that’s digital. Figures.

My 15 year old fridge was behaving in a decidedly odd way and I really couldn’t bear the idea of replacing it right now. A local appliance dealer recommended Tussy who arrived this morning and fixed the fridge within 30 minutes.
He says he also handles air-​conditioners, stoves, washer-​driers, ceiling fans. Anything but microwaves.
I’m delighted to have found him.
