Teachers
Every teacher has its own style operates like a magician and is sensible but at the same time challenging. The teachers here are extremely helpful, all the time they checking their students correcting and helping them. As well as explaining the benefits and idea of yoga practice. ((-I have learned in these few days more than ever-​))
Results
After each class I feel energised, reconnected and grateful. My inner self has opened and my thoughts are clearer, my whole being is calm. Like a wonder pill.
Studio
The studio is tranquil and beautiful, super clean and well heated, all equipment is thoroughly cleaned after each class. Here are no showers but that’s ok –

Just wanted to give a shout-​out to this exceptionally fine yoga studio. I’m so glad some of the teachers from the former studio there have opened Twisted Trunk and carried on teaching there. Susanna, Dana, Laura, Sharon, Greta, Abby, Ally, and Joseph are some of the great, dedicated teachers working there. Teachers put real thought into their classes, both the asana sequencing and the meditations or intentions for the day. Classes are challenging for an experienced practitioner, and often move through asanas at a deliberate, careful pace, requiring that you hold, master, and play with a pose, while also focusing on breathing.

This is a lovely yoga studio with gifted teachers. I was in NYC for the weekend and dropped in for 2 classes with no expectations. I have visited a few other studios at various times this year in TriBeCa and Soho and will definitely return here when I’m back in town. The space is clean, soothing and spacious. Most importantly, classes are personalized, small and focused. These are not mass fitness classes crammed full of sweaty people that happen to do yoga asanas. At both classes, I was given observant cues that immediately improved my alignment, and straightforward instruction on how to do asanas that I had previously struggled with. Both classes accommodated various levels surprisingly easily, given the individualized attention.
Highly recommended.

I really love everything about this sweet, shakti filled studio: the teachers, the classes, the space, the community. This studio offers something for everyone, from beginner to advanced practitioner. Named after the the elephant headed god Ganesh, remover of obstacles, I highly recommend Twisted Trunk, where any class might help remove obstacles and offer new beginnings.

Twisted Trunk is my favorite place to do yoga in NYC. I fell in love during my first class with Marjorie Nass, and since then, have become a regular groupie to Laura Juell, Susannah Harwood Rubin, and many more. When the former space closed, I was heartbroken, but when Twisted Trunk formed, I was so relieved. The mix of Anusara, Vinyasa, and other holistic approaches is incredible. I regularly seek studios where the focus is on alignment, and I couldn’t be happier with the range of instructors. I wish I could go to Twisted Trunk every day! For yogi’s seeking a unique studio and community, nestled in soho, this is the place for you!

I was thrilled when Dana Covello, Laura Tulubas Juell and Lynn Hazan decided to open the studio in 2014. I simply LOVE Twisted Trunk!
To start with, the beautiful teal and white studio has a feeling of lightness that welcomes you and is a pleasure to practice in. All of the teachers here are inspiring and incredibly knowledgeable. Not only do they lead clear, precise and challenging alignment-​focused classes but you may smile and laugh once or twice along the way too.
I certainly leave each and every class having learned something new and feeling lighter, stronger and more open than when I arrived. I highly recommend Dana’s, Laura’s or Julie’s classes but really, you can’t go wrong here!
In addition to regularly scheduled classes they offer a wide variety of workshops covering topics from ayurveda and wellness to yoga philosophy and Reiki certification.
If yoga means more than an exercise class to you, you should definitely check out this studio.

Excellent teachers and a beautiful studio… what more can you want? The studio also provides interesting and illuminating workshops. If looking for a home studio or a place to drop in for a class, this is the place to go.

For people who love the practice of yoga as more than just «exercise», Twisted Trunk is the place to roll out your mat.
The studio space and the staff are warm and inviting. The teachers are expert at both leading inspiring classes and keeping participants safe.
I’ve enjoyed classes, workshops and lectures here. It really feels like «home».
If you’re looking for a place to practice yoga that will give you both a fun and challenging class and a way to engage what you’ve learned off the mat as well, give this place a try.
I highly recommend Susanna’s or Julie D’s classes. But seriously, anyone you get is a gem!

I just love going around to all the yoga studios in NYC. I get to check out new studios, practise with different instructors and continually learn about my body. Yea!
I bought a Gilt City deal ($ 75 for 5 classes) and stopped in last Thursday afternoon for an Open level class with Kumi Sawyer.
The studio is in an office building (but don’t let that deter you) and right in the heart of SoHo. The studio is one big room, with beautiful wooden floors, a nice changing area and restrooms close by. The restroom is out in the hallway, but the studio provides you with flip flops before you go out, so you won’t get your feet icky dirty.
The class I attended was small, but likely because it was a day time class and there were only 4 yogis practising. This can be great as the instructor can really cater to your needs.
Kumi was very nice and warm right from the start. She came over to me, introduced herself and then proceeded to ask me if I had an injuries or anything I wanted to work on.
I am currently experiencing some pain in my right posterior thigh, and very likely experiencing pain from a hamstring pull injury. I explained all this to Kumi and she was very mindful thru the whole practise to help me with this injury. We did many poses that helped to stretch out my hamstring (but not overdo it).
It was a great workout and although we weren’t flying from one pose into another, I really appreciated this class. We held poses for longer periods, and we really focused on proper form and alignment.
Kumi is extremely knowledgeable and comes from a dancer’s background. She knows what she is talking about (trust me also on this), knows the muscles of the body well, and she was really able to help me get a better stretch and to really focus on elongating my spine and using core strength.
Thanks Twisted Trunk for a wonderful first yoga class. I am definitely coming back for more classes, and hope to take more classes with Kumi! Check out this studio if you are serious about alignment, proper setup for poses and want to really progress in your yoga practice.

Virayoga had been my yoga «home» for seven years and I was so sad when the studio closed this past spring. I had such great experiences with wonderful teachers there over the years, particularly with Dana Covello, who I came to consider my primary yoga teacher. So it was with great joy that I learned that Dana was, along with fellow Vira powerhouse yoga women Laura Tulumbas Juell and Lynn Hazan, founding Twisted Trunk Yoga mere months after Vira closed. The studio is in the same space that Vira was, but with its beautiful new teal and white color scheme, the space feels much fresher, lighter and more spacious. I still have my wonderful classes with Dana and many other fantastic teachers that will be familiar to former Vira students. I know that any teacher I take class with at this studio will really know their stuff! I believe many teachers here come from an Anusara background and have an alignment-​based approach to teaching, not just physical alignment, but a spirit-​heart-​mind alignment, as well. I always leave class feeling better than I came in, refreshed and renewed! I highly recommend this studio!

As a teacher, this is my favorite space to practice and simply be a student.
Whenever anyone asks me for «real» yoga, I suggest Twisted Trunk Yoga. It’s community of teachers is completely dedicated to the experience and exploration of yoga. The studio itself is inviting, and the community is refreshing. It provides an atmosphere to explore your practice without judgement or expectation.
The schedule is versatile enough to offer up classes, workshops, teacher training, mediation, ayurveda/​wellness, family yoga and more.
