Dropped by for their Free sushi burrito promo and was pretty underwhelmed, even at that price. Definitely social media-promoted, not taste-based.

Wow, I think anyone who is a fan of sushi should just be offended. The sushirrito is like a cross breed between sushi and kimbap, but this shop fails to properly deliver it. First, the service was incredibly slow, and I was the only one in the line. How long does it take to put together a sushirrito when all the ingredients are already prepared? I had to tell the lady 3 times that I was in a rush before she started scooping rice out of the rice cooker. Second, the rice to fish(plus other ingredients) ratio is atrocious. 90% of the burrito was rice. Even worse, the rice did not have the flavorful vinegary taste of sushi rice. I felt like I was eating plain white rice. Third, the salmon and crab tasted slightly stale, which is not a great feeling when eating raw fish. Don’t waste your time here. It’s not worth the $ 14. Go get some real sushi, a poke bowl, or a kimbap. Any of these will leave you much happier.

Do not go here. I was the only one in line. I ordered a sushiburrito and the worker(male) who was making my food was constantly socializing/talking with other coworkers and people who passed by. He took forever to make my food because he constantly got distracted. I had to tell another coworker for him to stop socializing because he was taking FOREVER. But, even when she was telling him, this dude again stopped to talk with someone who was passing by so the other coworker literally had to take over after i waited like 20 mins. Food was ok. Stupid unneccessary wait due to a worker’s incompetency to focus and perform efficiently.

Something is very wrong here. Gotham West is set up for a lunch time crowd. These guys are taking 25 minutes to produce a hand roll. People standing around sweating over getting back to the office, and the staff looks oblivious and like they could give a f. Unlike the fish here(supposedly) this is Not sustainable. Roll tasted good…

Super fast!!! Burritos don’t have as much fish as you’d expect, but everything was fresh and delicious!!!

We ordered the sushi burrito and the original was very bland. The crab meat one was much tastier. The environment was cool, they are located in a food hall so there are other foods to eat besides the sushi burrito. The Ginger green tea was pretty tasty as well.

I am feeling more and more let down by this place. My first experience was great, despite having to wait a tremendously long time for my food. The fish was fresh and the flavor was great. The experience made me want to come back for sure. The next times I came back my experience was worse and worse, my second time here again the food took forever and I noticed that my entire chirashi bowl was all rice and no fish but the sides were piled on so I was okay with it. After going recently I can say, I will no longer be back. 15 $ for a giant bowl of rice(this costs about a few cents to make btw) and 5 pieces of fish is just not worth it. On top of that add on the 45 minutes waiting for food and my gfs order was missing fish entirely. How does that saying go again? Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you. Fool me three times, well I’m just a idiot for trying a third time. Go elsewhere in the food court.

Uma-rritto — very dry, no sauce and not tasty at all. I won’t order this type of burrito anymore :( After this type of sushi I had Korean soup which it was much much better than this.

Came here on a Tuesday evening and the service(for us at least) was quick. I ordered the uma rito($ 11) and it was surprisingly good! I had read the reviews for the other location of dry rice and less than fresh fish, but no complaint here! I even got free avocado slices put in. The wasabi slaw is sooo good. We did notice 3+ orders being delayed, forgotten, or messed up in some way while we were there. So service is seemingly up to chance. There were only two workers(one taking the orders and one making the food), and both were super nice.

This place was awesome. No line went on a Sunday and I had the sushi bowl. I loved it. I wish it had a little more sushi in it. But it was very tasty. They don’t have these types of places in Boston(where I’m from) but it was very good. Free water too which was a plus. They have a few types of sauces to choose from as well.

Absolutely delicious bowl! Everything looked picture perfect! Money complaint is that I wish there was a little more fish and a little less rice, but yum I will definitely be back!

Wow, there are all the makings for a lunchtime staple in Uma Temakeria, but the service has become nothing short of a joke. Literally — if you tell anyone in my office you got your lunch from there, you’ll be met with«did it take foreeeever?» and a hearty chuckle. It’s truly ridiculous how it can take 30+ minutes to assemble a bowl of kale, seaweed salad, and sashimi. Not only that but they seem to never have takeout containers, leading to having your salad stuffed into two tiny sushirito boxes, and making it impossible to mix. My partner has taken to dumping his into a massive metal mixing bowl and eating it that way, because otherwise you’ll be eating all your toppings first, leaving a bed of dry kale. No thanks. That said, on the one occasion I got my salad with all the toppings I wanted, and it was put in a reasonable sized container, it was a lovely lunch. Except that when I tried to pay with cash, they had no change. The next time I went, they were out of seaweed salad. «It’s defrosting,» said the guy at the counter. Um, ok. Uma Temakeria, please hire a manager, get your ish together, and buy some takeout containers!

This took my sushirito virginity. After a friend smoozed with the staff, he got himself and I a free sushirito voucher. I decided to give it a try. With our voucher, we could only get the standard ritos on the menu(no custom although they do offer it). I ordered the uma rito. The rito was pretty loaded and the fish included salmon and tuna. All of the ingredients tasted fresh, and the ratio of rice to fish was done justice. I typically always eat sushi with soy sauce but the rito was good with and without the sauce. The uma rito is supposed to come with tempura crunchies, but I did not really taste them. The service was on the slower side, maybe because of the lack of employees. Overall, I enjoyed my first sushi rito. That being said, I don’t really love the concept in general of a huge roll of sushi so I don’t know that I would be back.

See as I said, I’m back to Gotham west market to try the sushi. At Uma, you could either choose their signature sushi, or opt to build your own. As a creator, I decided to go with my own selection — self-designed temaki(acone-shaped roll). Had the ginger miso sauce and seaweed/green apple as topping, on top of my tuna. Chef was considerate enough to let me be careful with the seaweed as it did not stay still inside my roll :) Love my roll and just wish it could be larger! Should have come in later as their lunch starts after 11am. Too bad as a morning person!

Service was quick and the tuna sushi burrito was good and they gave us a free side of spicy mayo and soy sauce. The burrito was a bit bland but good.

I’d really like to give a higher rating b/c the food is really good BUT the service is super super super S-L-O-W… Did I say super slow; I meant sssssss lllllll ooooo wwwww:( It’s my third time here & unfortunately the last… Not the employees fault; usually there alone — on a weekend! Wtf… Anyway; it’s a shame, the food is good.

2 handrolls & a side for $ 14 is not bad, but I felt it could have been better. The Isara Salmon roll was mostly seaweed salad and a little bit of salmon. The Spicy Tuna roll was quite stingy with the tuna. The tempura crunch added a teeny bit of texture. The spicy cucumber was okay, but there was way more spicy cucumber than there was salmon or tuna. I thought that was strange considering it was meant to be a side dish, and a bit pricey one at that.

I had the $ 10 uma ritto sushi burrito. It was pretty tasty. You can either choose from the ones on the menu or make your own by choosing your fish, rice(brown rice or white rice), etc. Customer service was good. This location is in the Gotham West Market. I have not been to any of the other locations but I recommend this one.

The void left by the excellent Court Street Grocers has been filled by another spot with delicious options, a new location of Chris Jaeckle’s hand roll and now also sushi-burrito spot. Sushi Burritos have taken off this year in NY thanks to Uma, and it feels like they saved the business, which people didn’t seem to be nearly as interested in when it was just the hand rolls. After not being particularly impressed by the hand rolls at the original location, I am now a definite fan with the advent of the«Uma-rrito»($ 10). There are still just two options, plus a seasonal one(currently shrimp), but the possibilities are there for great stuff, so I hope this stand sticks around for awhile in Gotham West, unlike some of the other short-lived ventures(we miss you Court Street, Saltie, Jeni’s, etc.).
