Update Graphics Staffing should be investigated by the New York State Department of Labor for age discrimination. THEY called ME about a specific job at a big ad agency, I met with Erica Flores at 9am the next morning, aced the test, had exactly the right experience and then stopped hearing from her. When pressed for an answer, she gave me a vague excuse about the job no longer being available, and then I never heard from her again despite my follow-​up attempts. Soon after, they started running ads for the same job at the same place that I was told no longer needed anyone. To make matters even worse, when I registered, they took my bank account info for direct deposit, which I only gave because I was told that the job they called me in for would start the following week. No other agency that I’ve ever registered with takes your bank information until you’ve been hired. I hope other people with similar experiences at Update and other staffing agencies, like fourthFLOOR and their affiliate Syndicatebleu, will file complaints with the DOL so that these discriminatory, illegal practices will be stopped.
