I´ve been attending that clinic since I was a child and they were usually friendly until around spring of 2000 when they started a routine of forgetting to call my name while I waited for a signifigant amount of time and when they drew my blood once the person drawing my blood purposely was determined to remind me a few times that I was overweight their security is not welcoming either. I went for a check up last year and the doctor picked his nose and the glasses they wanted me to try on were laying on top of a trash can. I wonder why they send me follow up appointment letters if they seem to be annoyed by me attending their clinic.

I am not insured. Went to the centre with dermatological problem. After 5 months, 3 visits and hours of waiting, The William F Ryan CHC had charged me over $ 300 — and no help whatsoever! Today they wanted to charge me again. No more I say!!! The doctors at this center are so arrogant, that they will not even examine you properly.
The Result — MISDIAGNOSIS
I guess if the dermatologist (who briefly looked at me and said: You’re fine! I’ve seen it all before) and the general practitioner (who goodled my symptoms and asked to pick the diagnose myself) If they were any good — they would be working elsewhere. But with those kind of skills — I doubt any decent practice will hire them.

The Ryan Center is a low cost health clinic. I’ve been going to them for two years now. Some of the doctors are good with the patients, but there are a few problems. Scheduling is a huge issue. The earliest they open is 8:30 or 8:45 am, but most people work 9am to 5pm and can’t always get there at 8:30. The clinic should do like private doctors do and have one day a week open at 7:30 am at the earliest. Also their eye clinic leaves a lot to be desired. Glasses or contacts should take a week to be ready; seven to ten business days is unacceptable. I ordered regular glasses and prescription sunglasses. Both took over ten business days. I finally got my regular glasses but am STILL waiting for the sunglasses. It should not take THIS long to get glasses. Last year my contacts took just as long and were extremely uncomfortable. Ryan Center needs to make these improvements ASAP. Otherwise, I’m considering going elsewhere.

Terrible, rude service from the front desk attendant.
The doctors have poor bedside manners and don’t even pretend to care about anything you say — they seem to be jaded juniors just trying to get through their residencies.
I went to get some tests done and was told the results would be ready in 1 week. I only got the results 3 weeks latter. Despite calling all the time and being transferred to various people who were never at their desks and rarely ever returned calls.
Their Online Portal is archaic, it takes forever to load and the test results were uploaded in an unintelligible format.
Go elsewhere.

I’m a new reviewer, and this is the place that has prompted me to let folks know what an amazing service this center and their staff are to the community. As someone recently without health insurance, I came here not knowing what to expect and was greeted with nothing but kindness and helpfulness.
A wonderful woman named Amanda Guzman helped register me with the center and find me the right insurance, then signed me up right then and there. She was knowledgeable, patient, and knew exactly how to navigate through the system – which can be daunting for the uninitiated. Her kindness and professionalism changed my life a little that day.
And yes, they are understaffed, but for what they are trying to provide (basically health care for everyone!), it really is an exceptional place with people trying to make a difference in the lives of others. Obviously there will be longer waits at times and other setbacks, but if you’re patient you will reap the benefits that William Ryan and its staff are offering.
I thank everyone I met that day for the help and I look forward to continuing my healthcare through them!

Considering the past and bad reviews for this place I figured I might as well put my input in. I went here Saturday for a staph infection I had on my stomach, and was treated quite kindly by all of the people who work there, doctor included.
My biggest gripe was that I waited from nine thirty a. m till about noon to be seen, but I don’t think that they have many doctors on staff so it’s understandable. Its first come first serve.
as far as it being a difficult place to understand on the first visit, you must register to the left when you first walk in, and then you can walk into the line on the right to talk to a woman who will set you up to sit and wait for the proper physician– & u then go into the big waiting room area in the back–
Again my visit went very smoothly, the people are nice, I received the help I was hoping for, and will go back in the future.

By far the worst clinic ever. The lines are long, the employees are incompetent and non understanding. You are bounced around from section to section just to get something simple done. I do not recommend this place at all.

This place suuuuuuucks.
Nearly impossible to get anyone on the phone –let alone anyone who is actually helpful or polite.
I don’t want to try and count how many hours I’ve sat on hold, only to get hung up on or transferred to an answering service whose mailbox is full. At which point I have to call back again, only to have that same cycle repeat.
And hey, wait for me to be an idiot asshole before you treat me like one. Until then, notice how I speak politely, clearly, and to the point. Alls you gotta do is listen and then try –just TRY– to be helpful.
Today’s adventure:
My prescription had run out two weeks ago, and (at some point, somehow in my life) I finally got an appointment scheduled for this morning.
I met with the doctor, and figured everything would be back on track, but then she goes and orders the WRONG PRESCRIPTION.
So here I am again. An hour and 15 minutes of being ON HOLD, only to be transferred to nothing, at which point I have to call back again, trying to get actual results and service from an actual helpful human.
All while I try not to have a panic attack about not being able to get the meds I need for panic attacks.
In short:
Ryan Center is ONE BIG HUGE FAIL.
NOT RECOMMENDED.

I am a 26 yr old woman with no insurance and I was panicking because I wasn’t feeling well and I knew it was something that I couldn’t really ignore. I went to the Ryan Center as a walk-​in patient after registering and was seen almost immediately. The doctor was able to run some tests (very basic) and everything came out normal. I was not convinced that nothing was wrong and asked that they run some more in-​depth tests that might reveal something more. While they couldn’t run additional tests because I would have to pay lots of money out of pocket, they were unbelievably personable and I was so grateful for a woman in particular, Arlene, who helped me at least calm down and arrange a doctors appointment a few weeks from now with someone who might be able to figure out what’s wrong. For the volume of patients this place sees each day, the fact that someone was willing to go out of their way to help me was unbelievable and these people are truly interested in helping their patients feel better. Thank you, Arlene and Ryan Center!

As soon as I arrive I ask myself WHY DO I COME HERE?
As soon as I walk in to register there are two people sitting at the desk no line yet neither acknowledge me. A young lady waves at me to come up & is obviously on a personal call.

I sit & wait i the waiting area which feels like forever the nurse checks my vitals and FORGETS TO GIVE ME MY TRANSPORTATION SLIP

Checking out of this place is the absolute worse!!! I waited an additional 30 min till the chatty ladies behind that desk felt like scheduling my damn referrals. One lady actually stood up to take a picture while she was suppose to be making my appointment!!!

I’ll be calling my insurance provider & searching for a new place I can’t deal with this place.

Lord help this place. Every employee needs help here. No one knows what the fuck is going on. My main problem is the receptionists. The receptionists always decides that their conversations are always more important than you are, they will have you standing their in line for minutes because they call you over. (Oh and don’t you dare walk over to them without them calling you because they will get nasty). The only nice receptionist i experienced was the older lady and then another girl with longer hair.
The wait times are RIDICULOUS. You wait 1 – 2 hours to see your doctor, only to be in the room for 15 minutes! Not that the doctors do not take their time, but everything is so quick! The nurses are sweet.
Be aware that after you see your doctor and need to make a follow up appointment, you will be waiting another hour for that appointment! The receptionists take their time calling people to make followups. Oh and if you leave before getting an appointment, they mail you one which always seems to be as inconvenient as they can make it. Say you were there at 4pm, they will send you an appointment for next time 9am (doesn’t make sense) SMH. Obviously i’m here in the afternoon cause i have the afternoons off!
They needs to hire new receptionists. That’s it

Please read if you’re researching affordable urgent healthcare: I’m writing this review for those broke young adults, like myself, who don’t want to see their dwindling bank accounts cause a direct deterioration of their health. And so I try to keep up with my health sans insurance. Dental in nyc is rough. I hadn’t been in a while, so I tried this particular Ryan Center near my apartment.
I had a numb pain in tooth, so I wanted to nip it in the bud and get a cleaning and xrays. Mind you it had been over 5 years so I was expecting the worst.
Day 1: quick registration, people in front are personable and efficient. Got the lowest no insurance rate per visit which is $ 35 every visit. Very acceptable. Headed down as walk-​in to dental. Man was arguing with secretary whose name I believe is Lourdes Celia (sp?). At first I thought, ah well. He’s probably just being overly dramatic. But then she argued with another patient. As she kept calling her the wrong name. And her child the wrong name. Oops. Wrong patient in the system. Her apologies. Ok. Well. Now I approach. Her demeanor is somewhat frustrating, almost condescending, but I can deal because she probably gets a lot of different people who approach her with ignorant questions all the time. One girl angrily shouted she was done waiting for 2 hours WITH an appt. (What!!!). I’m told as a walkin I can wait anywhere from 1 – 2 hours. Verbatim. I asked if i should run get a snack. She said, «I don’t call you in! The doctors do!». So I decided I would rather wait then run the risk of taking too long. Literally 30 seconds later I was called in.
Saw a Dr. Lee female. She was great. Easy going, looked at my xrays. Said I was decent. I asked if I may see her on my next appt. Look especially in places like these, having consistent visits with a reliable doctor is crucial. She said sure, front desk would set me up. I req Dr. Lee with a new secretary. I was in and out within an hour. Not bad!
Day 2: Lourdes is at front. Again, not necessarily mean, just very… frustrating to correspond with. I’m seen quickly. Several new xrays. And then a male Doctor by the name of Dr. lee comes in. What? I asked about my previous doctor. He laughs says, or that’s her maiden name. You should have asked to see Doctor Yun. I am Dr. lee.
…oh. Long story short, I stuck with him. A «cleaning» is just him taking off any plaque. No frills. No flouride. None of that cool fully priced dental teeth stuff. I was told I had 5 cavities. And would have to have 5 separate visits… milking me much? Fine. When done I went to see, you guessed it, Lourdes. I explained the mismatched Doctor issue. She replied «oh you did see Dr. lee. You saw Dr Yun yesterday and if you want to see her for a future visit I would have to be reevaluated by her».
Me: «but she told me that was her name…».
So. I just stuck with whomever I have. This place is very frustrating. But. Basically it will get the job done. I would rather deal with a mind numbingly frustrating secretary than have an unhealthy mouth. End of story.

Waiting almost forever in multiple lines makes me feel like I’m at the DMV but instead I’m at the Ryan Center. It doesn’t help either that the general practitioner and dermatologist couldn’t help either. But the worst part was this «referral» to another hospital. I waited and waited for that referral. It never came. So I just canceled my affiliation with Ryan Center and went somewhere else. After 90 days this elusive referral comes in the mail with no actual location or time or date. I flip out, run to Ryan Center, and tell them to leave me alone. They cancel this «pending» referral that’s slipped through the cracks.
I’ll give it two stars because this place is functioning albeit slow, and I see how it helps others who have obvious problems. Didn’t help me though.

I had good experiences a few years ago, but things have definitely deteriorated. I spent 2 ½ hours there last night, even though I had an appointment. Only a few minutes were actually spent with a doctor, who spoke fast, typed while she talked and barely examined me. She probably spends more time with her patients when it’s not almost closing time — but I hadn’t chosen to be there that late! She recommended three follow-​ups, so the next day I spent forty minutes waiting on the phone. Finally, I hung up, deciding that even with mediocre insurance, I could find better healthcare elsewhere. Only good thing — got a tetanus shot that I was probably due for.

An embarrassment to western medicine. Be prepared to leave more exhausted, frustrated, and sick than when you arrived. The doctors themselves are generally smart and kind, but to get to them you have to navigate an endless maze of imbeciles. Exhaust all other options before going here.

No one helps in here. 2^nd visit and it was worse than the first. People just tell u where to as if u know what they are talking about. i dont like it here and is considering finding another doctor

Ok — I’m officially fed up with this place!!! I used to go to the Clinton (Hell’s Kitchen) branch which was usually fine, except for Dr. Dadawalla who I will never go to again! (He actually made me cry at my last OB/​GYN checkup!) But the uptown branch is the pits!!! The only good experiences I’ve ever had there were as a walk in!!! I’ve also had to wait a long time for every appt I’ve had. General practitioner Dr. Lai rushed me, as did Dr. Herlick in Women’s Medicine. I’ve had my appts cancelled by the doctors 3 X and I’ve only been there since August.
Today I showed up for my OB/​GYN appt and found out that they didn’t have my appt in the system. They sent me to the scheduling supervisor who didn’t want to help me because I didn’t have the yellow piece of paper they gave me when I scheduled. And she informed me that the doctor I was to see was out sick. Now, I understand that doctors are going to get sick… but today I didn’t even receive a call from them telling me that the doctor was out. I walked up to the clinic in 17 degree weather (1 degree with wind chill) only to find out that my doctor wasn’t in and then they wouldn’t put me in with anyone else. I understand — the other doctor had a full schedule — but I was one of their first appts, if not THE first and I’m sure that they take walk-​ins of some kind.
The staff is just rude and unhelpful on the whole. I’ve never been treated like a person except by the walkin clinic physician.
