This place is ok. There’s not a lot of options in the area for Caribbean/Jamaican food in the area, so when I need a quick fix, and I’m not willing to go across town to Freda’s, I end up here. Their jerk chicken is really good. I’m not too sold on their oxtails or stew chicken though. The portions are huge. I usually end up sharing my food or saving it for later. They do tend to run out of things in the evening, so I think it’s best to come here earlier in the day.

Had the Jamaican beef patties, they were average, not amazing but not bad either. The other food: chicken stew, jerk chicken, curry goat/chicken all looked good but I did not get it so cannot comment on the flavor. Prices were very reasonable.

This is a solid three star place. I realize it isn’t generous, but it’s appropriate. They were sold out of a bunch of things by dinner time, but the jerk chicken with rice was pretty tasty. The chicken was spiced well with sweet/smoky sauce. Portion size was commensurate to the $ 10 price. Delivery was also really speedy.

Though the food is good, the attitude of the owner is terrible. He was barking at a staff member and when the customer said something about it, she was told the get the F out of there

I can’t give a review on the food because I didn’t get a chance to taste it. I walked in very kind and friendly and was greeted with the most disgusting attitude of the woman working there. Dry attitude, didn’t speak… Then when I said hello, she barely replied. I placed the order and she made it wrong… when I told her she was making a mistake she took a fork and was removing one of the items off and dumping it right back in the pan and act like I was the problem. I kindly left. With such rude nasty service I surely didn’t want any of their food.

Love this place and the people. I’m Jamaican and the food is authentic. They make ackee & saltfish everyday which is hard to come by in Manhattan(though you have to get there early or they will run out). The prices are really good and the gravy is even better, «extra gravy please». I eat here almost every week and it always tastes like homemade. Less than two blocks from the 96 street station. Some of the staples that let you know it’s the real deal: * Ackee & Saltfish * Boil and fried dumplins * Boil banana and«food» * Necessary Bob Marley poster * Ting and champagne cola * Dancehall Mix CDs for purchase * Generous portions(the container can barely close). Two days or more worth of food. * The menu is useless, just order what you see in front of you and ask what’s in the back. Cons: * Very tiny, cant eat in there. Just in and out take out place. * They run out of food often(but you guys know how that is). * You will be left waiting sometimes — just because. * Not open on Sundays * No fried whole escovitch fish(that I’ve seen yet). * Everything could be spicier — I like spicy * Beef patties need some work — and more beef. * Little consistency on what they have available.

This is a hidden jem of Carnegie Hill that my father taught me about. The jerk chicken is spicy, moist, and sweet. I love the rice, which makes the chicken lunch a lot more filling.

The jerk chicken here is awesome. So much great flavor and if you get it with the rice and peas and the fried plantains you can have a delicious lunch and enough leftovers for a second full meal. The service is, how do I put this, unpredictable. Sometimes friendly, sometimes not. If the lady who works the counter says they are out if an item, try a little bit of friendly pleading; she might just«discover» some in the back.

Lunch specials until 2 pm. Overall the food is good. Tried the oxtail and wish there was more meat. The sauce was delicious.

The Jerk chicken rocks, the portions are heaping. Little hole in the wall that you’ll probably skip if you don’t pay attention — all the more reason why I like it.

Tender and flavorful chicken. Super generous portions at a reasonable price. The staff was not particularly friendly, but they weren’t rude either. Don’t take it personal, its just a quick grab and go type meal. I’ll be back.

Rice and peas were tasty and the jerk chicken was moist and juicy. Cabbage/carrot slaw was good, too and for $ 6.50, they really fill up the little takeout container! It may look small but it comes packed with food– a lot of rice on the bottom, 3 pieces of chicken on top, and a scoop of cabbage. Could’ve used more jerk sauce and although good, it wasn’t quite as tasty or heavily spiced as I expected. A perfectly decent & cheap meal for the neighborhood though!

Worst service of my life. Staff was rude. Food isn’t worth the rudeness. Had better Caribbean with BETTER service. Never again.

I’m not a very big connoisseur on caribbean food in general but I’ve been wanting to try this place for almost 2 years. Came here tonight after class to order the famous jerk chicken with rice and beans. The chicken was so moist! It fell off the bones when bitten into. Don’t get me started on the spices of sauce and chicken. It’s a taste I’m not very familiar with but the sauce was deeeelicious. Kinda spicy just the way I like it. A small dinner was 8.50 which for all that food was worth the price. Like everyone has said, this place is super tiny so It’s more of a «take out» place. It’s good eats.

I tried their jerk chicken and curry goat. It was not bad — very average overall. However, the rice and peas that accompanied both dishes were definitely a little old. As a result, they were a little dry and hard. The plantains also were a little old. They were probably made in the morning. The jerk chicken meat though was pretty tender and juicy, but not spicy at all. I prefer it spicier, but it was not necessarily a bad thing — just an observation. The curry goat meat was also flavorful and moist. The only thing is that the meat was mostly bone. There are much better Jamaican places, but for now, this is the only one in this neighborhood.

This place is a take out only hole-in-the-wall situated on Park Ave just past the point where the Upper East Side seems to end. Looking for a nice atmosphere? Sorry. Friendly staff? A swing and a miss. Healthy food? Lol, get outta here! This place only serves up legit Caribbean food without all the frills. Get the jerk chicken with extra jerk sauce and a side of plantains. Trust me. If you need a guide on what size to get then I recommend a small as the portions here are gigantic. My go-to spot whenever I might be craving some delicious island food.

I noticed this little spot one night while heading over to Earl’s Beer & Cheese. Had they not been closing, I would’ve tried it then. Instead, I caught them about a week later. I had skipped lunch and decided to stop in here after work. I ordered a small jerk chicken, which came with rice & peas, sweet plantains and veggies(which they were apparently out of). And, since I was hungry, I ended up impulse buying a beef pattie as well. For $ 8.50, the small was really quite a large portion, as that combined with the beef pattie was more than enough to feed my sister and myself for dinner. I’m not a regular consumer of Caribbean cuisine, so this was the first time I ever had jerk chicken. The chicken was what I had expected — highly spiced and moist. Their jerk spice was a lovely combination of spicy and savory. I didn’t think the chicken was too spicy, but it did have a nice little kick. My sis said that their jerk chicken was even better than what she got in Jamaica! Wha?! The rice and peas were a bit disappointing though. It didn’t have much flavor. The plantains weren’t ripe enough for me, as they seemed more starchy than sweet. That was when I wished that they hadn’t run out of vegetables. Not sure what kind of veggies come with the meal, but I like having some type of veg to balance out the carbs. The beef pattie was actually really good. I liked the flaky crust and the beef filling was nice and spicy. I wouldn’t mind trying the chicken pattie next time. My sis wants to go back to try their ackee and callaloo. One thing that I’d agree on with some of the other reviewers is that the younger lady(probably early 20s) does seem to have a nasty attitude. Firstly, she completed ignored me when I entered, waiting for the older lady to take my order. Then, she just stood there and made the older lady work around her instead of moving out of the way. If you’re not going to do any work, why don’t you step aside so that people can make their living? Sheesh! I mean, I even smiled at her when the older lady went to the back to fill my platter with chicken and all she did was glare back at me. Whatevs. The food was good and if I was ever in the area and in the mood for jerk chicken or stewed meats, I’d probably stop in, but I wouldn’t go out of my way. Especially as there’s virtually no way to fit more than four customers in there without causing some sort of fire hazard and because I’d probably have to deal with Lil’ Miss ‘tude again.

Their chicken is hit or miss. Some days it’s delicious and moist. Some days it’s dry or gives you food poisoning. Their plantains are perfectly soft and sweet every time, though, and their rice is consistently solid. Prices are pretty cheap considering how much food you get. I wish they would do the lunch size portion all day.

For the takeout only: We got the braised oxtail and jerk chicken — both under $ 10 and OVERFLOWING with cabbage, rice and peas, plantains, and of course, the main dish. My only complaint is the oxtail was really fatty. I know its typically fatty, but there was more fat than meat. My boyfriend doesn’t mind it that way but I like it a little more lean. Also they took over an hour to deliver and told me 30 min. The jerk chicken was falling off the bone, and just enough spice. Neither dish was greasy but full of flavor. Will definitely be back.
