By far the best place to buy wine in the west village /meat packing. We moved to NYC about a year ago and struggled to find a place with great wines but more importantly genuine people that care about their customers. Jim is the best and seriously knows his wines. They have great selection of nice wines but also every day wines which is nice. Unfortunately Manleys shows up on a search in the neighborhood but I highly recommend visiting Jim instead.

We love Xavier’s! There are several wine stores closer to our apartment but we always choose to go a little further out of the way to Xavier’s. Jim knows our palates better than we do and never fails to recommend a wine we will enjoy. Their selection has really broadened our horizons on the types of wines we like. We will continue making Xavier’s our only wine store!

Beyond knowledgeable staff with superior customer service. It is a truly needed addition to the retail businesses in this area(and boutique wine stores in NYC). It shelves unique selections hand chosen by the owner for an assortment from moderately priced to luxury selections. No one walks out empty handed! Excellent selections by region from old to new world with thoughtful detail to vineyards and production process. The end of week complimentary tastings are a bonus if passing buy for a weekend purchase. The tasting room is refined, cozy, charming, and elegant all at once; nice ambiance for an event or for private tastings!

We were in the Meatpacking District and wanted to pick up a bottle of wine before dinner. I found Xavier Wine Co on Unilocal and the great reviews were not wrong. We only wanted a ~$ 20-$ 25 bottle of wine, although most of their selection is priced higher. We explained we wanted to try something new, and they found two bottles for us to choose from. The background knowledge the store possesses is what really sold the wine and they explained each vineyard’s story to us. The personalized experience of buying wine with someone who knows about the vineyards they’re selling is what will keep us going back. It made it worth buying wine that was a little more on the pricey side. We loved the bottle they picked and it fit the kind of flavor profile we asked for. Additionally, they were having a FEW whiskey tasting that day. My boyfriend and I went to college in Evanston(which is where FEW’s distillery is located) and it was great to see that Xavier reaches far past New York for its selection. My boyfriend sampled their rye and got a hefty two fingers. They made me a Manhattan as well, and it was actually one of the better Manhattans I’ve had. Overall, loved the Xavier Wine Co experience! We’ll definitely be returning.

Let me start by saying I’m not exactly a wine expert. But when I said that to Jim and Kim when they were helping me select a bottle, they put me at ease instantly by telling me that if I know what I like, I know plenty. Very comforting, and great for my confidence of course. The shop focuses mostly on wines made in traditional ways, grown sustainably and conscientiously around the world. And their knowledge in helping you choose the perfect bottle is really impressive, which being completely down-to-earth. And it seems like every time I come in they’re doing a free tasting, which is fantastic! Downstairs they have a great space for classes and events, and in addition to wines they have a curated cider and spirit collection too. Wonderful new small business in Meatpacking — check them out! (PS they have a great range of prices, from very affordable, like $ 15, up to some really impressive hard-to-find selections)
