The food is fresh off the Sysco truck. Nothing special here. Please do not waste your money. I’m sorry that we did. So many cool restaurants on main street… we could have made a better choice. Caprese panini was cold and wet. Featured soup was cream of broccoli and was very bland. Side of broccoli was raw and dry. I made a complaint and they took it back to the kitchen to re-cook. It came back hot, but inedible. Pesto chicken was dried out. The side of roasted potatoes was super greasy. This type of food is comparable to a TGIF at best. Absolutely no culinary skill went into their meals.

The restaurant is quite nice but getting an order to go, they take their sweet time noticing you. They take forever getting the order together even after said time. I waited between 10 – 15 even after i had gotten my order to pay for the food. They pretended not to see me and took other customers over me. I had to say something in order for them to finally acknowledge my existence. No i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone IF you are considering a takeout order. Awful service in that arena.

I have been here for dinner on a few occasions and it was very overpriced with mediocre food and bad service. The only reason we have gone back for dinner more than once is because our kids go to college in town and we had a Groupon or some other type of coupon to get our meal at a discount. That is all the food is worth. The wait staff is always bad to mediocre at best. Normally I would give them a 1 star rating for dinner. Imagine our surprise when we ate Sunday brunch there for the first time! Absolutely delicious! This is the only meal that I will ever eat at Café Gelato again! It was wonderful. All 4 meals were scrumptious, perfectly cooked, and surprisingly NOT overpriced as their dinner menu is. Pulled Pork Crepes and Crème Brulee French Toast was soooo good! I would give the brunch food 5 stars, but the wait staff was still mediocre. They still get only 2 stars for service. I gave them only 3 stars overall because their dinners only deserve about 1 to 1.5 stars based on food quality and food quantity. Brunch is wonderful and their gelato is really good as well. The service is still mediocre at the very best and it can be a bid noisy in there.

I have tried this place when I went down to see my family. It seems to be one of the most popular/featured places around University of Delaware. This is not a cheap place either. We had some chicken and pasta with addition to salmon steak. Actually I expected more of a garnish of small salmon pieces, but it was a big thick steak on top of my entrée. It was ok, not bad, but the price I thought was a bit too high. Considering how few options this city has this restaurant is not a bad place to try.

First time there. We went for dinner. It took 20 minutes for someone to even bring us water, and the place wasn’t busy. Once we got service, it was good. The menu is limited. The prices were high. The food was good, but nothing to write home about.

One of my main street favorites! Food is always so great. We often stop in just for Gelato on summer days!

Steph and Alex brought me here for my birthday. We started with burrata which just melted in my mouth. If mozzarella and cream had a baby, it’s burrata. Steph and Alex both ordered pasta, I had the broiled scallops. They were huge, and cooked perfectly with asparagus. I had a sampling of gelato for dessert. Mango, peppermint, and toffee crunch, it was a little icier then I expected but it was really good.

I’m only giving three stars based on their happy hour menu. That was OK. The fries and calamari were pretty good. Everything else was average. The service was passable. The rest of the menu was laughable. Almost everything was in the $ 25-$ 35 range. This place isn’t fancy enough to charge that much money for a steak. Let’s not forget that Caffe Gelato doubles as an ice-cream parlor. Overall, I would only go to this place for the happy hour when the appetizers are $ 4– but even then, why come to Gelato when there are a ton of places within 5 – 10 miles who do happy hour so much better? Brio, Bahama Breeze, Firebirds, Shellhammer’s, and many others I’m forgetting…

Stopped for dessert with my grandma a while back. We sat outside and had coffee and a bite. I decided on the flight of ice creams/gelatos. Delicious! Our server was good but clearly nervous(and very cute!). Turns out it was his first night of work, but he’d clearly been trained. He was very good. Decent prices too! I’d stop when I’m in town again.

Thankfully I went for a social event that I didn’t pay for. Bartender ignored me. I stood at the bar for 10 minutes and had to flag him down. He literally skipped over me twice and I had to tell him that I had been waiting. No apology. Also he has no idea how to pour a proper head on a glass of beer. There were fishy tasting shrimp and crab cakes and everything tasted like it was boxed.

My wife and I go back to this restuarant maybe once every six months. Over the last couple of years I have notice food and service degrading. This is so disappointing because this should be a great local restuarant. Our last visit the service was poor. I ordered a glass of wine with dinner and got a glass with lip smudges all over it. We both ordered Chicken dishes and both of our meals came out tough. We ended up not finishing. I have even emailed the owner in the past to tell him about a bad experience and never received a reply. I’ve spent my last dollar at this location.

I really hate posting bad reviews, but this restaurant gave me one bad experience. I should have known not to eat here when there was no one eating in the place on a weekend afternoon at a place that serves brunch, but the menu items sounded good so I wanted to give it a try. Our brunch items came and everything looked great, then j took a bite of my potatoes. Supposed to be prepared like breakfast home fries I assume, instead they were barely cooked through, tough, and bland. What a let down about the home fries, but we left because there were shells in our eggs. Sorry Café Gelato, I wanted to like you but I can’t.

The food is no good. It wasn’t burnt or undercooked or anything major but for a plate that costs over 30 bucks this wasn’t good. And the rest of the people that dined with me agreed. We had better food at other places for half the price. Oh and the gelatos… Go to another place. You’re missing nothing

Pasta made on premises — delicious! Don’t let the name fool you. They have a full, fine dining restaurant. Got to them via Unilocal on March, 2015. Place is very nice, located right on the main street in Newark. A lot of young college kids work there. Our waitress was very nice. I had the Lobster gnocchi appetizer — best gnocchi I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot! Light as balloons in a blush sauce with a generous amount of lobster meat. Next time I might have that as an entrée. The only thing that might stop me was my entrée, their shrimp and crab meat capellini. Again in a light blush sauce. Delicious. My wife ordered their tenderloin tortellini. I tried one — home run. She really enjoyed them. Of course when you eat at a place that gelato in its name you have to have some for desert. I had the coconut and my wife the crem broulee. The coconut was delicious. I’m not a fan of crem broulee but my wife is and she liked hers so much that she ordered a second one. I’ve never, ever seen her do that. Give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed.

My boyfriend and I are staying at a nearby bed and breakfast and thankfully we were recommended this restaurant! The atmosphere was so cute and they sat us in a booth where we sat next to eachother which was very intimate. They had a special on Wednesday BOGO special entrees. I got the seared tuna and my boyfriend got a prosciutto wrapped filet minion. Both were outstanding. We also got the lobster gnocchi as an appetizer which was so fresh and delicious. Their wine selection was very impressive and the staff was very good with helping chose them and even offered samples when I couldn’t decide. We ended with gelato samples which was by far the best gelato I’ve had. The staff were very friendly. Overall great experience, I can’t wait to be back in town again.

Very impressed with the food, though I wish the menu was a little expanded. None the less, I had the frutee de mar and it was delicious, pasta cooked right as well as the seafood with a really flavorful white wine sauce. My wife had the caprese panini with sweet potato fries, it looked really good, and I actually used a piece to dip in the sauce. I wish u could have real bread instead of the stick they give you. That would be my complaint, but again, the food was really good! The gelato was good, not great, but I will try other flavors to compare!

I will echo some of the recent reviews in saying the food was pretty mediocre. I went with the french toast and for the price they were pretty underwhelming. Just a few floppy pieces of regular bread. The eggs were not great either. The wife went with a wrap and she said it was ok but again nothing special. It was also overpriced for really sub par breakfast fare. On the flip side, the service was nice and the girl was pretty attentive. This wasn’t enough to overcome the food quality or the prices.

The food was very bad. I ordered the medium lamb but it was overcooked. I could grill it better by myself. It is also very expensive. Cheap ingredients, NOTWORTHTHEPRICE. DONOTGO!
