Where to begin… Unpacking in the first hour we uncovered several instances of damage to our appliances and bookshelves. One of the movers just threw our stuff around. They nickel and dime you on hours they charge you for (you could be 20 minutes into an hour and they still charge you the full cost of the hour; 124 dollars an hour). You do not get to pick how many movers you get and they will load all of your belongings on the truck then at the destination be shrewd enough to say they will not unload without payment upfront in cash. I could go on. By far the worst moving experience.

Father & Son Moving & Storage were such a big help during a stressful time. I called a lot of moving companies and the quotes were very high, I was skeptical at the low price I was given for 3 men and a truck at $ 124 per hour. Well the day of my move went very smoothly I was given a courtesy call the day before to go over my move and was assured that the men would be at my house between 7 and 8 in the morning at 7:30 the truck pulled up and the men came to the door they had me walk them through the house and to evaluate the job. They took the utmost care of my belongings and made my move such a pleasant experience. Once we arrived at my new home they reassembled my furniture that they took apart put the boxes in the rooms I requested and made getting settled in my new home a pleasure.

Father & Son Moving &Storage has to be one of the shadiest companies in the country. I booked my moving date with Michael a couple of weeks ahead of time. Everything seemed fine over the phone. He informed me that they were bonded and insured so I would not need to purchase any additional insurance.
The day of the move, the crew would not start moving unless I signed all the pages in a lengthy document, even pages that were supposed to be signed after the move was done. Since they charge by time and they know it’s near impossible to get other movers for the same day, they essentially force the client to sign off. When I signed, I didn’t list any pre-​existing damages because I didn’t have any.
They finally started loading my things into the truck. In the process, they destroyed my bookcases. I had moved those bookcases twice before and they always made it in perfect shape until then. When I arrived at the new apartment, the moving crew gave me the final quote while all of my possessions were still in their truck, so if I disputed anything my property was held hostage and I would be charged for more time. I couldn’t really judge if my things were received in good condition because I had not received them. When I tried to contest this, they told me I could try reaching the corporate office but they would charge me for the time I spent doing that.
They went over their quote time of 5 hours because they dragged their feet (I only moved a block away and I have a one bedroom. It shouldn’t have taken that long.) They also dropped, dragged, and damaged my things. This was solely due to their negligence because a crew member even commented how well I had packed everything and that this would be «an easy move.» They charged me extra to move my sofa via the stairs, after soiling it by dragging it, and a crew member told me in secret that they didn’t have to charge me for that but that the team leader wanted to pocket the cash. What was I supposed to do, leave my sofa in the lobby? They also dropped my dresser on it’s side in front of me, cracking the corner off and then they tried to tape it back on with packing tape. Really?!
The team leader, Patrick, told me to contact Michael at the office about damages and filing a claim. I did so and had to keep calling for a week and a half to get a response from Michael. He discouraged me from filing a claim, but after I pushed for it, he gave me the information I needed. I filed a claim with the legal department and here’s the worst part. They denied the claim because they said the damages were pre-​existing. They sent me a copy of the documents I signed and they had filled out the damages they created AFTER I signed as pre-​existing damages to make it look like I signed off on it!
This company is seriously fraudulent and I have reported them to the NJ Attorney General’s Division of Consumer Affairs. Never use them!

I’m giving them 2 starts only for the peace of mind I had before the moving. I’m 6 months pregnant and was so stressed about how we’re gonna be able to move until we decided we’ll get the movers. Sounded great on the phone: $ 96 an hour and the whole thing should be done in about 5 hours so we’re looking at $ 500-​$ 600 total.
I had everything packed and neatly stacked so all they had to do is haul it on the truck and then to the house.
I had the boxes nicely labeled on where they should go once we get to the new house («upstairs», ktchen, living room etc).
They were supposed to start 7am. Company had called us about 5 times prior to moving day to confirm the date and time.
We were up 6am, packing away the last essentials like bed and bathroom stuff. 7am rolls around but no movers… At 7.30am I got anxious so we called. And the lady on the phone said that oh no, you misunderstood: 7am is the time that they leave the office! WHAT? Movers finally got there at 8.45am.
First thing they do is look over our furniture and start bitching about how hard it’s gonna be to get it on the truck. Next thing they do is start complaining how tired they are, that they worked till 3am last night and had one hour of sleep. THAT is NOT what I want to hear from my $ 96 an hour movers!!!
We left them to «work» and went outside to hang out with our also anxious dogs. After about half an hour I noticed that stuff is just not getting moved. Went inside to check: one guy is just chilling, reading the labels on turtle food, killing time. Second guy is doing something in the truck, who knows where the third guy was. Had to go and check several times like this, every time just getting more and more stressed as time was ticking by and things were not moving. Two guys spent half an hour wrapping our old scratched-​up shitty book-​case.
It sure is nice that they’re taking care of your stuff but it was obvious they were just killing time!
They also bitched about how they’re only getting paid $ 7 an hour and how their boss drives around in a rolls royce.
ggggrrrrrrhhhh. Anyway, after long hours went by, me and my husband couldn’t watch the slow moving anymore and started moving stuff too. We dragged up half the apartment and put stuff on the street so they could put it on the truck and even that took them soooooo looonnnnggg.
We were really trying to be nice to them (bought sandwiches for everyone, made sure they had plenty of water to drink)…
When all the stuff was on the street, we told them to pack it and come to the new place as we had to meet furniture delivery company in the new place.
The truck should’ve been packed in MAX 20 minutes and then the drive over should take max 45 minutes with a truck (takes 20 minutes for us).
Granted, they show up two hours later, conveniently right about the time it’s running to overtime so now our rate will be $ 156 an hour. They unloaded the truck in two hours. Lazy bastards had a great excuse for not taking stuff upstairs: «It’s just gonna take more time, it’s cheaper for you if we just stuff everything right here downstairs on the floor» .
Same thing with my wardrobe:” Oh it’s going to take sooo long time to get it upstairs and it is so flimsy already it will probably not even make it”. I figured it’s cheaper to buy a new wardrobe to pay them $ 156 an hour to get it up there…
After they left we also discovered that the wheels on the barbecue were somehow destroyed and the whole bbq had dents in it. My husband’s ipod is also missing. Tried reporting it but the lady on the phone said that the insurance pays by the pound, 60 cents per pound to be exact. So we would be getting about $ 5 for the whole thing if we do start the process of reporting it.
Total with a $ 100 (not deserved) tip: $ 1600+ we need a new bbq and ipod.
