Funsteps Preschool and Childcare

This childcare center is a really awesome facility from a physical aspect. The outdoor play area is exceptional. However, there are a lot of issues in this daycare. First there are always staffing issues. Either staff calls out, staff is on leave, or staff resigns. My child has had several teachers in her class this year. The teachers here are very young, very unprofessional and honestly they don’t really know how to address parents. Teachers are always on their cell phones snapping pictures of children, which I thought was illegal without the parents’ permission. Also certain parents get special privileges and because some of the staff care for «certain» parents children on the weekend or non-​school days you can feel the favoritism in the air.
Also, this daycare has little to no diversity. This is an all-​white staffed daycare with maybe a handful of Black children and it sure is reflected on the way that staff deals with Black parents. Very little interaction between the two. Also during my childs time here, frequent colds and infections in the one year old room. After stomach bugs and viruses, toys were never wiped down and cleaned, the rooms never Lysol however they are so quick to send your child home as soon as a fever reached 100.
It hasn’t been a totally bad experience but Funsteps can really benefit from some older and more seasoned teachers instead of the 19 and 20 year old ones they have now. Also diversity training would be helpful to better equip the staff to not to be so scared and fearful of a black male who is simply there to pick up their child. Oh one more thing, the rates are very high and you have to bring breakfast and lunch for your children and the snacks they give your child is not healthy at all, ie Rice Krispy treats, pop tarts etc etc.

Felt like the kids didn’t learn much. Didn’t really follow a curriculum.

My grandson has been here for 4 years. The staff is wonderful. The owners are very nice and caring. They constantly upgrade and refresh the physical space and the toys. Outside is great!
