I stop in every now and then for my usual black bean and guacamole burger and never had any issues. My only gripe with the bistro is that it can get pretty pricey. Prices I think are a little on the high side compared to other places. The cashiers aren’t the friendliest either! The people who take your order are great though. If the prices were a little more reasonable and the staff a little friendlier his place would def deserve a 5 star rating!

I bought scrambled eggs in a croissant, and when I chewed on the egg, it felt like chewing on rubber. I threw it in the garbage and it didn’t even break. I’m not even sure the stuff is biodegradable. Great if you’re looking for a chewing toy for your dog.

This is cute. I came to this place because its indoors and although I love to walk around downtown Newark and look for new places to eat. heck. I just did not feel up to it. And they have Indian food… So overall this is a fulfilling place to be and to eat. They serve their purpose and have a lot of options to choose from. Its not majorly anything to write home about . but their salads are damn delicious. Fresh spinach and chickpeas and basically anything else you could desire. They have truthfully put the effort into providing salad lovers with options and flare… I usually go for the Salmon or fish dish with lentils and spinach. It helps when Im trying to be healthy I dont want to be deterred. Even the other patrons seem to enjoy the lighter more healthier side to his restaurant and order accordingly.

I came here before my train because the food in Penn Station is less than appetizing, so this is a step up. I ordered a loaded baked potato that was pretty good, so no complaints on taste. You do have to have a debit card or cash typically but the cashier let me use my credit card since I didn’t have either of those. Service is a bit lacking as I had to compete with the cell phone conversaton the cashier was having as I was trying to pay but alas, still better than anywhere I’ve eaten in Penn Station.

I love the Gateway Bistro! Staff is always friendly and food is always delicious! I usually get the mixed salads. Like stated previously, if you add a lot onto these salads they get kind of pricey but if you get the standard salads listed they are average price. They only take debit or cash which just changed maybe this past year but when I have a little extra money to splurge, I always go there. They have everything and have a lot of healthy options for you to choose from. Go there, you won’t be disappointed!

Worst egg and cheese bagel ever. Egg was so spongy it tasted really fake. Place looks really nice though, has nice coffee station

Seven years working in Newark and this place in Gateway just hasn’t grown on me-and I don’t know why. They make a pretty decent salad here, but as someone else said, it can get pricey the more toppings you add. The sandwiches they make for lunch are pretty good, but you can do better price-wise. On my way to catch a train I’ve also had a to-go pre-made sandwich, which I usually stay away from, but it wasn’t bad(turkey and cheese). On the more positive side, I’ve always enjoyed the soups I’ve had here, in fact they make some of the best soups in Gateway. The breakfasts here are also pretty decent… you can get an egg and cheese on whole wheat that gives you a nice start to your day. So why hasn’t this place grown on me? Not sure. The people who work there haven’t always been the most pleasant, the prices are a little high, but I really can’t put my finger on it. Maybe I just need to give them another shot.

Located in Newarks’ Gateway Center which connects to Newark Penn Station. I often stop by in the morning to grab a bottle of water or apiece of fruit. People working there are pleasant. I’ve never tried the food but they do a good business so I would guess the food is decent. Not open late like most places in the Gateway.

Really good salads with a build your own menu. I usually get mixed greens, bacon, onions and their really good crumbly bleu cheese with either the balsamic vinaigrette, peppercorn or sesame ginger mandarin dressing. Go easy on the toppings if you don’t want to spend a lot, though. They charge for each additional topping in increments. I usually end up spending under $ 7 for the salad I described. They also do good sandwich specials. The ham and brie with Dijon mustard on a croissant was awesome and pretty cheap. Salads and sandwiches are a go but I would stay away from their pastry options. They look unappealing and old and sadly taste stale accordingly.

I just had the best chicken salad sandwich — ever! the chicken was cooked perfectly, it was mixed with walnuts and crenberries in a light mayo dressing, served on toasted pumpernickel bread. YUM! They also have great pickles.

I got lunch here today because I was in a rush. The staff seemed friendly… to the lady in front of me. the lady behind the counter didn’t greet me but looked at me like I was bothering her. So right off the bat I didn’t like this place. I had the veggie humus sand which on flatbread. It wasn’t terrible. It was just really sloppy. It had a lot of artichoke hearts peppers and greens. I wouldn’t go running back here but in a pinch it’s not bad. Plus they had zirco coconut water.

I recently started work at One Gateway Center, opposite Penn Station. I am pleased to say that every retail establishment I’ve visited have shown to be amiable and appreciative toward its patrons. Gateway Bistro fits this descipt. I have sampled their soups and fresh-squeezed juices. I have yet to be disappointed through ten trips. Their price points are more than reasonable. Have had: corn chowder, Italian Wedding soup, split pea, all very good. Their staff is warm and friendly, even when things get hectic. And one of them was astute enough to learn my name by looking at my I.D. tag and remembered what I’d ordered the day before. I recommend Gateway Bistro and look forward to many more trips.

If you want a better selection than the food at McDonalds in Newark Penn Station, take the walkway across to Gateway Center. The Gateway Bistro features self-serve coffee and tea plus a wide selection of deli sandwichs and salads. Some of the pre-wrapped items are labeled kosher. I stopped in for a decent breakfast sandwich and coffee. Fast and friendly service. Courtyard seating. Several flat screens tuned to NJNEWS12. But no wi-fi so I will be going back to McDonalds.
