Nothing like it if you’re looking for Portuguese wines. We wanted to extend our experience after a trip to Portugal this fall. Oporto Wine did the job for us. Thanks, Oscar. Looks like I’ll be getting back on the Turnpike. Exit 14, meet Exit 4.

Great selection of Portuguese wines from budget conscious to high-end. And they all tasted great. The staff was warm, helpful and full of smiles! What more can a wine shopper ask for?

A great place to find South American, Portuguese, and Spanish wines in depth at very good prices. I tend to buy a case or more at a time and I always get a lot of help and appreciation from the store staff. Over the years I came to realize South American wines are a great value compared to the usual suspects. At Oporto I can find or order wines I am familiar with but cannot find in the US.

This is one of the best wine/port shops I’ve found in the greater NYC area. The store is a full-service beer/wine/liquor store, including everything from $ 500/bottle port to $ 5/bottle single-serve bottles of J.D. The wines and port are overwhelmingly Spanish and Portuguese, as befits the neighborhood. The guys who run the place know their products well and are great at picking out exactly what you need. This is the source of the 5-star rating. I can’t browse in there for more than a minute or so without one of the proprietors coming over to ask me what I want. I tell him, «I’m looking for a late-bottled vintage port around $ 40,» and he will then select a bottle or two, ask me how many cases(har har), and ring me up. I don’t think I’ve spent more than 8 minutes in the store, ever. And every selection they’ve made has been spot-on. If you’re in the market for good port, don’t be afraid to get on the PATH and come out to Oporto… it’s only about 8 blocks from the station, and you’ll get to experience the really nice part of Newark… the Ironbound. The restaurants around Oporto just smell amazing, and you’ll want to come back here for the food after you buy all your good ports.
