Our first visit to this small quiet restaurant. They instantly made us feel welcome. The food and service was great. I will go back again the next time I am in the Newark area.

In the recent years, Brazilian restaurants in the Ironbound have been perfecting a way to disappoint with the lack of food quality and service. I’m happy to say that Sabor Unido came along to break that trend. Although I have never been there to eat, I do order delivery a few times a month. The food is so fresh and tasty, that it almost seems like my mother is cooking and some guy is just delivering the food. Always fresh as can be, high quality products used and spectacular customer service.

My two friends and I happened on to this cute restaurant before a show at the NJPAC on Saturday night. We loved it. The restaurant offers a nice assortment of Brazilian and Portuguese cuisine, and a very friendly family run restaurant experience. The son of this family was our server, and I thought he was great. So handsome, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I chose the grilled octopus, which came in generous portion with two sides(I chose the delicious black beans that were flavored with pork and the tasty fried corn meal balls) … all for $ 11.95. The octopus was sautéed with nice seasonings. I prefer octopus that is actually charcoal or chargrilled to what seemed more like a sauteed version. The restaurant served the fried yucca topping for the beans that I so love, and some rice to accompany. My friend had the hanger steak, which I thought was exceptionally delicious. All in all, a great experience here, and the staff was excellent.

I love finding little places like this. First of all, the location listed on Unilocal is incorrect, and Sabor Unido is actually on the other side of Ferry St. Keep that in mind while you circle looking for it(if you’re coming from the downtown area on Ferry St make a right and it will be on the right hand side of the street). This place was great. I stopped in for lunch on a Friday and the place was not crowded at all; only 2 other tables there. The man there(presumably the owner) talked me through the menu as well as the specials they had on the blackboard. I went with the half order of Beef Steak(Portuguese Style). Portuguese style meaning a slice of ham and an egg served on top of the beef, and served with French fries and white rice. While I waited for my food he brought out toasted garlic bread, which was very good. Beef Steak: EXCELLENT. This was the first time I’ve ever had this dish, and it did not disappoint. I wish I could order the sauce that comes with the beef steak. Yummy! Fries were cooked perfectly, as was the egg. My only slight complaint is the beef was a bit overdone as I had asked for it medium. Portion size was quite large, but ended up finishing the whole thing. I would definitely order this again. Service here was excellent. Very attentive staff, but not breathing down your neck. Very laid back, cozy atmosphere. Price was a bit more than I’d like to spend on lunch($ 14 including tip), but heck it’s Friday and why not have a nice treat? Left Sabor Unido with a full belly and a smile — what better way to kick off a weekend.

Just went here for a Sunday afternoon and it didn’t disappoint. Eating here was like eating at your aunts or grandmothers house with family and the food was delicious! We had the oven roasted beef and chicken with all the sides, rice, yuca, vegetables and fries. The beef and chicken were melt in your mouth good, and their sauces flavorful. The service was the best! Friendly and personable. The place is very small which gives it a comfy, homey feeling. If you’re looking for a big, fancy restaurant with white linen table cloths, this is not the place. However, if you’re looking for a warm, friendly, small family type atmosphere with good old fashioned Portuguese food, this is a must try!

Amazing food! Our party of four was absolutely blown away by everything we had. What I ordered was relatively simple — steak with sauteed onion and french fries — but it was just what I needed that day. The flavors were amazing and the portions were very generous. The steak was thinly cut and quite cheap, which was fine by me – I’m not trying to eat filet mignon for a casual lunch. I got a half-order, which was more than enough food. I’d be frightened to even look at what their regular-sized portions look like. The restaurant is located just off of Ferry Street, the Ironbound’s main commercial drag, and appeared to do a lot of take-out business. We had some time to kill before Sabor Unido opened and took a really pleasant stroll checking out all the shops in the neighborhood. This place would run away with five stars if we didn’t have such a long wait for our food. We got seated just after noon and our food didn’t come until about 1:00. I’m normally more than willing to wait this long for such good food but we were trying to get to the airport that afternoon. Everything ended up ok but we definitely rushed our meal. I can’t complain too much, though, because our waitress apologized profusely and genuinely felt bad about how long we waited. What more can you ask for in this type of situation? I’ll definitely be back next time I’m visiting my relatives in New Jersey.

Great food. I order from them on grubhub. Gave them 3 stars only because they now have an outrageously high 4 dollar delivery fee.

Really friendly staff, basic Portuguese and Brazilian food. So if you are craving good food from back home, this is pretty close to how mom or grandma use to make. Good food at great prices

I don’t usually write reviews but I had to for this hidden gem. The food was awesome, everything was freshly made, so many options on sides, and healthy ones which is a plus. I had the Portuguese style steak with rice and beans, it was a very generous portion, definitely had left overs. The prices were reasonable as well, there were 3 of us for lunch and the total was only a little over $ 30, mind you we all had steak. This will definitely become one of my regular lunch spots.

Coming home late off the Path and decided to check this out. I kept it simple and ordered grilled chicken, plantain and boiled greens. The food was seasoned great! The place is small and really feels like your a family restaurant. Friendly staff as well. I look forward to going back.

Based on the reviews I thought this place was amazing. I ordered white rice, beans, sautéed collared greens and pork sausage. The food sounded good but when I received my food White rice: was not fluffy as described, absolutely no flavor. Beans: no flavor as well, the soup was soggy and barely cooked. Sautéed collard greens: a joke. It tasted like you just picked up plants from the ground and added sea salt. The last part was the pork sausage: ugh! The disappointment. They might as well call that sausage«disappointment»

Excellent food! Friendliest service you will find on the planet — the owners and their wonderful children. You won’t be disappointed! Note: For some reason, Unilocal shows the location incorrectly across Ferry St. The address that is listed is correct.

If you haven’t checked out this place yet I highly recommend that you do! It’s home style Portuguese and Brazilian food. After my first experience here I instantly craved for more. On Saturdays they have a special Brazilian soup that contains different types of meat. It is very flavorful and authentic. The soup was delicious however, the thing to get is their Grilled Top Sirloin Steak! Every time I go, I order the steak because it’s juicy and flavorful from the spices they put on it. And there are 4 cuts of meat that come with the full sized portion. They are pretty large cuts and I even had leftovers. The entrée comes with 2 sides and I recommend one side being the boiled potatoes. They season the potatoes with herbs that really compliment the texture and flavor of the potato itself. The steak entrée was $ 22, which is a very reasonable price considering the amount of food you get and the quality of the food. I would even go as far as saying that the steak here is more flavorful than some of the steakhouses I’ve been to. They also have a variety of desserts and their Tres Leches cake is especially good. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be going there a lot more, even if it’s a trek to get there.

Went here to eat before a red bulls game and could not have been a better choice. We had a group of 10 so we made reservations since it wasn’t the biggest of restaurants. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the amazing smell of the food. Since it was such a big party and everything looked good, we just ordered a bunch of full dishes we we all shared. I really liked the skirt steak and chicken marsala. The waitress was awesome. Its a BYO so we brought a ton of drinks that needed ice and they were very accommodating. Also the prices were very reasonable which makes the prices we paid at the game almost ok. We had a great time and Sabor Unido will definitely be part of our Red Bull game day ritual from now on.

Do you want to try good quality tasty Portuguese Brazilian food, then this is the perfect place. I came here because of the good reviews, and reviews were very accurate. It’s family style authentic P/B food that are made with really good ingredients and care. Service was good too. I’m definitely going back to try out different dish.

I have absolutely no way to describe how rich my culinary experience here was. Excellent service, delicious food, plentiful. I’m definitely coming back for more and will bring all my friends. The Picanha was very well done considering that I rarely find food that’s close to how it’s made in Brazil. I have to say that the way peppers are pickled is majestic, so tasteful and so fresh.

Orlando Campos delivers a perfect place for those who seek a down home meal in a most welcoming atmosphere. Sabor Unido’s motto is «may all who enter as guest, leave as friends»! They forgot to say pleasantly satisfied friends with a button unfastened! This is the place to go if you want to eat some home made style Brazilian and Portuguese cuisine. Delicious, delicious, delicious! The food is great.

What a surprise! A coworker chose to come here for his going-away party based off of Unilocal reviews. I was excited to see that they had an amazing rating so we took a $ 35 Über ride there around 12:00 on a Thursday. We walk past a random sex-shop that’s on the corner(super awkward when you’re with other people in HR) and we walk in. There’s literally ZERO people inside aside from the people who work there. We get seated and wait… a while. Then someone brings 6 paper menus for 7 people. When we ask for another, they said there’s no more. Weird but I guess not that weird in a totally empty restaurant(maybe?). We ordered some fresh squeezed juices and our food and then waited. We waited maybe 30 minutes while people started to trickle in. Pretty soon, almost the whole restaurant was full and other people had started getting their food. Still we waited for our juice while people who had ordered steak and salad and soup and everything else. Granted there were 7 of us but it took a really long time to get our drinks then another not unsubstantial wait for the food. But once the food arrived, it was GOOD and PLENTIFUL! Tons of fluffy rice, yummy beans, and plantains for shared sides. One coworker ordered the shrimp which were delicious and full of garlic and punchy orange sauce. Another ordered the whole grilled snapper(when he asked them to remove the head they looked at him funny — he deserved it) and scarfed the whole thing without sharing, the meanie! I ordered the beef stew from the list of specials on the board. It was REALLY good with potatoes, carrots, and soft chunks of beef in a thick brown gravy($ 13 I think). Several of my coworkers are vegetarians and this place was a bit tough for them. The vegetarian dish consists of your choice of 4 sides, most of which are starchy-starchfest. The sauteed kale was ordered and it was really good but essentially, the other coworkers had to settle for plantains and rice. Overall, it was tasty and the people were nice… even if it took a while.
