My parent’s go-to place for Portuguese groceries. They have a large variety of imported goods from Portugal, Brazil, and South America. Items I always grab when I’m in town: Sumol(the staple Portuguese juice/soda), Portuguese cheese(Limiano and Castelões are my favorite), presunto(cured ham, jamón), and polvilho azedo(sour flour used to make Brazilian pão de queijo). They sell frozen, ready-to-bake cheesy bread(pão de queijo) which is really good too. They also sell pasteis de nata too; my dad like’s the ones here a lot, but I prefer the ones from Texeira’s Bakery any day, every day.

Everything is always fresh in this market from the deli to the butcher to the items on the shelf. Huge supermarket now that they have taken over for Mandees since it has closed down. If your ever at the butcher section, make sure to get the top sirloin(picanha) it is fantastic and the butchers can help you pick out the picanha in the package and cut it up for you to grill it at home. they also have a liquor section and the prices are very reasonable. They don’t price gauge you in there.

I’m a usually a Saturday morning Seabra’s shopper in Chesnut Street, Newark. It’s ridiculous how rude are the cashiers although since Christmas I realized that they have a paper over the cash register from the manager of the store, where the manager tells them to be nice to the clients, say good morning etc… Nobody does it! No good morning, no how much you have to pay, no thank you to spend our money there… but still they’re lucky and they have a lot of clients! One month before Christmas I bought there a Spanish sweet called«turrón». This sweet is made from almonds, sugar and some candied fruits depending the type of turrón that you buy. On Christmas Eve I brought to the table this dessert and I wasn’t able to ofer it to my family. It was so hard that I couldn’t cut it, it was as a really hard stone. I emailed to the Spanish company complaining because as a Spanish woman I know how the quality of a turrón has to be. After the company checked the batch number that I provided and the pictures and video that I sent them, they answered me back, telling me that this batch that Seabra’s is selling to the public is more than two/three years old. Seabra’s are you kidding me? It happened the same with other stuff that I bought there also. Now I’m only buying fresh Portuguese bread and anything else. Very disappointing store.
