This place was attended on a weeknight. It was fairly crowded. The tables were very close together. There were no complaints about the service or the staff. It was all wonderful. For appetizers, the shrimp in garlic sauce and clams in green sauce were ordered. The shrimp in garlic sauce was amazing. The sauce had a nice little kick to it that I was not expecting. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. The best part of the meal was the dunking of the bread in the sauce. The bread was fluffy in the middle and a little crunchy on the outside. The sauce just soaked right into the bread. It was unreal on how tasty it was. The clams in the green sauce was great too. The clams were not sandy at all. I was just disappointed only about 10 clams were served. The bread was again dunked into this sauce, which was the best part. For an entrée, I ordered the stuffed salmon. There was also a side of Spanish rice, carrots, string beans, and 3 small potatoes. The portion size was huge. The salmon was a little bland I thought, but the sauce that was on top of the salmon was tasty. There could have been more of the sauce. There was plenty of crabmeat stuffed into the salmon. I also tried the lobster that was prepared in a hot tomato, pepper, and onion sauce. The lobster was a little tough, and the sauce was not that hot, but still good. I am glad I did not order this. The portion size was again huge. Will I go back? No doubt.

Four of us came to Spain for the first time this Saturday evening with a reservation at 6:30PM. It took some time for the maitre D to locate the reservation, and nearly 15 minutes before we could be seated. What with the Prudential Center and NJ-PAC within hailing distance, the restaurant was brimful. When the first pair of us reached our table, we asked for and received menus for four. Once our two companions made it in and we decided what to order, it was a bit difficult to get our waiter’s attention again. We placed our order, which included a small pitcher of sangria — but my husband had to ask for a basked of bread, as we saw on all the neighboring tables. The sangria arrived promptly — but it took the better part of an hour for our food to arrive, and that happened only after we pointed out twice that we were attending a concert at NJ-PAC at 8. The food was delicious and plentiful(although a some of my mixed vegetables were cold by the time my entrée arrived. I can see why so many positive reviews are here — but I would advise against going on nights when there are events at «The Rock» and/or NJ-PAC, at least if you want to get to your event on time.

Legendary restaurant and amazing food in Newark Ironbound neighborhood. Half a block from the train station. The Paella, clams and shrimp in the skillet, gigantic Steaks, Whole red snapper fish(Head attached) in white wine everything is wonderful here. Service is occasionally so-so and the waiters tend to be impatient or delightful but the food is memorable so you just«Get over it». This is the only reason I ever come to Newark is for this awesome meal. They have their own parking lot so you don’t have to walk around Newark at night. Be careful with the Sangria, It is sweet, delicious with real fruit and will knock you out if you have a long drive home. This place is a classic and a great place for adults(not a kiddie restaurant) or business meeting.

Awesome place still after all these years. Do not get down there very often anymore as I live 53 miles away… Had the usual appetizers: garlic shrimp, stuffed mushrooms and mussels. All were outstanding. Can’t go wrong. All were happy with their dinners. A party of 6. I had the broiled seafood special which was huge and took 75% of it home. I am on the road so the rest of the family is enjoying them tonight.

Went for lunch with a client. Service was very good. It’s a very quiet place. We had the sausage which was wonderful. We all ordered the special which is chicken and shrimp in a garlic sauce. It came out hot and fresh. It was very good. I would go back for lunch again

My husband and I and another couple have been coming to Spain for years. The service is great, very old school waiters who are so friendly. When we walk in the door there is always a big smile and warm greeting. We have been to a number of the restaurants in the Ironbound and Spain is always our favorite. The Sangria is great. The shrimp in garlic and chorizo apps are our favorite. We really like the grilled seafood platter, it is always a special. Convenient parking lot across the street.

Was there last night with another couple. Service terrible and food below average. We Had RESERVATIONS At IBERRA but because of festival going on we could not get close to restaurant so we were able to get into Spain. Big mistake. Stay away from this place.

Been going to this restaurant for over two decades. Back then, it was dirt cheap for a tray of paella. Plentiful, wholesome, and rich is how I’d describe it. Fast forward to now, the paella is the same, but the prices are ridiculous! I’m not paying $ 25 for a tray of paella!?! Heck, no tip included(wouldn’t even give a tip)! Sorry Spain, but no bueno mi amigo! I’d like reasonable prices back please! Until then, I’m not coming again!

Best seafood paella I’ve had in a long time. The shrimp, mussels, scallops and clams were fresh, plentiful and full of flavor. Very generous portion and couldn’t finish it. Enjoyed talking at the bar with good guy owner Tony over a nice glass of Sangria. I would definitely go back again if I’m in the area.

My date decided to bring me to this Spain Restaurant this evening with high expectations that we would have an enjoyable meal. So here is my review from my perspective. My date had the filet mignon(well done) and I had one of the evening specials of Grilled Seafood in Garlic Sauce. Both entrees came with a side of yellow rice which was cold and very dry. As we received the food, my date returned his steak once he made his first slice into the filet mignon and found it was more of a medium rare than a well done. I must say though the steak was a very nice portion. My Grilled Seafood in Garlic Sauce was not as easily fixed as my date’s getting his steak getting cooked more. The seafood was far from fresh, lobster was bland and rubbery, and all other seafood on my plate was not any good either. So that is my only opinion on the food because all you really need to know the food is NOT outstanding for the prices they charge. Now to the reason why I will never come to this restaurant again. We receive the bill and the total is $ 116(for 2 people) and my date looks at the bill and tells me the bill does not add up, it’s actually $ 82! My date asks the water to come over and he asks him if the tip is included; waiter says«no, of course not»…Hmmmm something fishy going on heeerrrre… He nicely explains to the waiter that he has added the bill incorrectly and my date even writes out the prices and adds the bills in front of the waiter… wait for it… Ah, the waiter says, I am so sorry I will void your credit card bill the $ 116 and correct the amount for you… In short, after about 10 more apologies we left to think how we will not go back to this establishment that obviously tries to skim and extra buck or two from their own customers. The trip to Newark was not worth it my friends.

After trying different restaurants in the area for paella, my daughter insisted we go backin here. Im so glad she did. Paella was excellent!!! Sangria was terrible. Anyhoo we fixed the sangria by asking for hot water adding the sugar from our table to it yo make a simple syrup to sweeten it up. Taste better but still lacking. But forget the sangria the paella more than made up for it. And our waiter and really the whole staff were so sweet warm and welcoming that the bad sangria wasn’t that big of a deal. This spot is very casual you walk in and sit where u want dressed how you want. They could do without the fancy cloths and such. We will definitely be back!

We went to Spain Restaurant last night. Great service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and he BEST food. This is a great place for a quiet romantic dinner or to stop for an after work gathering. It is within walking distance to the Hilton and Penn Station. 2 short blocks. We enjoyed Red Snapper with a lemon sauce, roasted garlic green beans, and rice as well as tried a couple new red wines. One from Portugal. One from Spain. There was not one thing to complain about. The food was all made onsite and DELICIOUS! We will definitely go back.

Every time I go back home to New Jersey I have to go to Spain for their Paella Valencia because it is the best I have had and their price is very reasonable for the portion size that you receive there! The Camarones Primavera is also delicious along with a fresh homemade glass of Sangria!

Visited this place a few weeks ago. I really liked it. Not in the most scariest part of Newark so Im not in scared to death walking across the street from their designated parking lot to the restaurant. The place has a cozy, old world feel. The guys working there are really nice. They use the ink swiper for the credit cards, somewhat comical to see. The food is really great. GIGANTIC portions; had enough food for 2 additional meals. I had the white sangria, not really a fan. Somewhat pricey as well.

Well the Spain Restaurant is an old haunt, that I really enjoyed for a good steak. But I had not gone there for a long time. I went there after an exhausting day and found the burger king corner fast food had been torn down and said to myself, well, I guess the Spain must have run them out. I had promised myself that I would eat below the railroad arches after my experience with the welfare population of Newark west of the arches, Well wouldn’t you know here I am eating some tasty special Shrimp and Penne in Vodka and some Troubadours came in with their loud music(which, I had no patience for) and began to beg afterward for money destroying my dining experience :-P I think the Fornos, Iberia, and Spain have become very touristy spots and lack the local Ironbound charm. Musical minstrels are very annoying at dinner time. I like to concentrate on my food and party later B-)

Delicious Food, Great Drinks, Reasonable Prices, Gigantic Portions and a Parking lot what else can you ask for! When you come to Spain you have to try the Paella with Seafood. The rice is nice and fluffy and they are very generous with the seafood and portion. It feeds a family of four and you’ll still have left overs. You should also try the Clams in Green Suace, the clams are banging, juusst rights. The décor is a but tacky, they definitely need a face lift, but they are just trying to give you old Spain. They never have a wait and it’s a nice quit place where you will be able to hear the wonderful folks you came with. Two thumbs up from this gal.

I see the attempt at casual dining in a fine dining atmosphere, but I think they fell short on esthetics. I don’t know, maybe it’s the color scheme, maybe it’s the dull murals, I can’t put my finger on it, but the result is kinda tacky. Service was fine. Food was fine. The portions were generous and the presentation was, well, presentable, but the food itself wasn’t very memorable. Didn’t hate it. Didn’t love it. Feeling indifferent to it. In between«Meh. I’ve experienced better,» and«A-OK.»

This is really not the best place to experience the Iron-bound district delights of Newark. The only thing that was delicious is the lovely Portuguese bread they serve. The portions are huge but the cooking is very uninspired. My sauce tasted like they had not ‘rued’ the flour base-all i could taste was raw flour and while the dish was advertised as shrimp and scallops i got ONE scallop and a whole group of overcooked small shrimp. Even the tea water was less than piping hot. The service was good, the waiters tried but they don’t have much to work with.
