Steak ‘n Shake

We just left after waiting almost an hour. We got seated and no one came to the table. After other tables were seated after us and waited on, I went to ask the manager to send someone over to us. She finally came and took our order and then brought drinks and after 45 more minutes without bringing our cottage cheese orders or food, we left. We had stopped going to steal n shake due to poor service and this reaffirms we don’t need to go back.

Horrible drive through service! The lady actually yelled at me because I questioned how many orders of fries she had in my order. inside service is really bad too. Lots of people waiting and lots of wait staff standing around talking. Horribly inefficient!!!

Wife and I always come here for the good, old fashioned, burgers. Always good food, served fast, for a affordable price. Nothing is high end, or fancy, just tasty food for cheap.

It’s a fast food burger joint so I get exactly what I walk in expecting. I frequent this place around 3am, after getting off a long bar shift, and almost always have a server named Daylynn (sp?). She is one of the only reasons I bother coming in in lieu of a drive-​thru or a sandwich at home.

This place is wonderful… man I wish we had one here, we went twice and both times it was great… burgers and a shake, you can’t beat it for the price. Woohoo!
On a side note, there was a large group of young teens haveing a great time, they dressed up in 50’s gear… what a fun place.

Ok. I’m not one that usually eats fast food. I live less than 5 mins away from this store and I do eat here a lot. Why? I’m not sure. I honestly can tell you that out of the 50ish times I have been there, 48 of those times, my order has been wrong. They have given me as much free food as I have paid for. The service sucks. I actually worked at a steak n shake when I was about 18 & they have what they call #steps to great service. First is meet and greet the customer. They fail horribly at this, as no one even makes eye contact with you when you walk in. When someone HAS to help you, they are less than enthusiastic. Next step is to ask for drinks and then go make them. Seriously, this is common sense. Almost every single time, the server takes our drink order and then helps other tables, or disappears into the back, or horses around before we see our drinks. Ok, ok, some of you might be saying to yourselves, «it’s fast food, what does she expect!?» And you’re right to an extent. Where my main issue is, is on the fact that no less than 4 people see your food before it gets to you. If I ask for onion on my sandwich, you have the grill guy who sees the order, the guy adding the toppings who also sees the order, the manager (who is SUPPOSED TO BE DOING QUALITY CONTROL, but is never back there) and finally your server or drive through attendant. It just kills me that not one of those people think to stop and look at the order to make sure it’s right. It takes less time to do that, than it does to remake me whole order when it is wrong. Not to mention a heck of a lot cheaper for the company as well. All in all, it’s cost effective for me to eat there because I do get quite a bit of free food! Really though, management needs to do some actual managing and do some quality control. This place has a bad reputation all over town and for good reason.

You’d think that all Steak N Shake’s were created equal. Sadly, this is not the case. But overall, the Steak N Shake on 21^st Street is A-​OK. The burgers are generally good, as are the shakes, but if you prefer a side garden salad to a stack of greasy fries, this be advised that you are in for a game of Russian roulette: sometimes it’s fresh and crispy; other times is wilted and brown around the edges.
Aside from the food, the folks who work there are friendly and enthusiastic and the wait is never more than a few seconds even though this place is always bustling with diners.
