Me and the kids love to drop by the pet store in downtown newberg and see all the animals. When we do, we are always sure to grab some hot dogs from Don. I love the Chicago style dogs but sometimes he gets some new items to try out so I’m always game to taste a new sausage or dog. Very clean, very professional for a cart and the free jalapeño poppers are tasty as well.

An excellent hot dog on an ok bun(buns are«Kirkland,» fyi, which means bought in bulk from Costco). $ 5 for a hot dog seemed fairly expensive, but it was quite large and plump.

I usually buy a hot dog once a week from«The Cart». I am partial to the Chicago dog, but I have tried most. All are good. It is grilled slowly and Don checks the temperature with a thermometer(160 degrees i believe) before passing it your way. There is nothing worse than a cold, undercooked hot dog!!! Yuck! The bun is grilled and you have a variety of items to put on the dog(kraut, onions, cheese, relish as well as the regular condiments). Don has expanded the menu to include grilled jalopena’s with cheese. They are not bad but I usually pass and get chips instead. You get a nice lunch for about $ 5 — $ 6.

Don is a fixture in downtown Newberg. His hot dog cart can be found most days on First street. He is a great guy and cooks a mean hot dog. The prices are good and there are a bunch of toppings available. He is often at local events like Tunes on Tuesday.
