PAAWS is a great no-kill shelter in the Evansville area. All of the fosters are volunteers, and all the animals are kept in homes. They will go out of their way to help you find the right animal for your family. Their adopt-a-thons are held at Petsmart on Saturdays and Sundays, and they are usually there from 11 – 3. Please consider adopting a dog or a cat from PAAWS, or any other rescue, there are so many that need homes! If you can’t adopt please consider making a donation to PAAWS, they have absolutely no paid employees so every dollar goes to the animals. Their website is . Save a life, adopt a shelter pet!

After adopting a kitten from Evansville Animal Control, we got talking to our friends about our new little family member. Each of them who had cats told us that we just had to get another one because they do so much better in pairs. Another one, you say? Okay, twist our arms! So the search began on for a buddy for our new little kitty. We were loathe to go back to the animal shelter again because of the huge vet bill we encountered from the first one– cute as she was, she came with fleas, mites, worms, and giardia– the works! I don’t think she was feeling too well when we first brought her home, but she perked up and showed her curious, spunky self in no time. So back the the search: this time I was looking for a kitty who had been in foster care but was still a rescued animal(I will not, under any circumstances, get a pet that is not a rescue). Lo and behold, I came across PAAWS– an organization made up of 11 or so volunteer households that take in pets and keeps them until they are adopted. In foster care was Kiki– the cutest little grey and white fuzzy ball of fur you’ve ever seen. It was love. I called the adoption line and sent them an email– someone got back to me right away. I asked all the questions that were at the forefront of my mind after my animal control experience: Did Kiki have fleas? No. Were they sure about the flea thing? Yes. Did she have worms? Nope. How about shots? All shots were current AND she was already spayed! So we met at Petco and it took one little chirp(yes, she chirps) and swish of her tail for hubby and I to decide we loved her. We brought her home and after 1 day of a little hissing, Kiki and our shelter kitty Tara became best friends. I would recommend adopting an animal from Paaws without reservation– Kiki has been the healthiest, most loving kitty I’ve had!
