Spudnuts Donuts

With nothing to eat at 5 am in Thousand Oaks, I found this place. Got the strawberry and cream cronut, which the guy made special for me since they were out! How cool is that? And damn was it goood! The choc french crueller was also fantastic. All the other donuts looked spectacular and fresh but I had to have SOME self control. Go try it!

The donuts here are really great, but honestly, it’s the people who keep us coming back. Everyone who works here is always in a great mood. They give us free donut holes all the time. Breakfast sandwiches and smoothies are great too.

I’ve been to each and every donut shop in the conejo valley and Spudnuts is by far the best from their super nice employees to how clean they keep their shop. I’ve recently had such great donut experiences that I had to give them a 5 star review!

I was visiting in the area and had a sudden donut craving when I woke up. All the reviews led me here and I can honestly say that I just had the BEST donut of my life!!! Most of them were so fresh they were even warm. Friendly people, got a free donut and a taste so delicious the flour must come from angelically-​harvested potatoes. GO THERE NOW and forget about that little black dress or Speedo. These are worth it!

So I had a cronut for the first time ever (with Oreos), and I can honestly say this is one of the best donuts I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered a raspberry filled donut and a lemon curd filled donut for my wife (she’s a human, female Homer Simpson when it comes to donuts) and she loved them.
We used to frequent the one in West Hills when we lived in the SF Valley, but I think this one is better. Definitely our regular, go-​to donut place from now on.

I am not a doughnut person.
My sister in law brought these doughnuts over on national doughnut day and I have never wanted to devour a doughnut faster in my life!
I came here with my husband yesterday and we got a dozen. They are the most fantastic doughnuts ever! Yummmmm can’t get enough.

When we moved to Newbury Park five years ago, a good donut house was on my list of to find soon! We read many reviews for The Rolling Pin in Camarillo, so ventured down the grade and tried it. MEH! We gave the three tries before checking them off our list.
Then we discovered Spudnuts on Kimber, YUMMMMMM!
The donuts are always fresh in the mornings when we want them. They also give you a card and punch it everytime you buy a dozen (they do bakers dozen!). My card is full and next time there I get free donuts! (I only wish they had told me about this card 4 years ago!!, only fairy recently given the card grrrrrr) (I almost deducted a star for that, but since the review is for the donuts, they get five stars all the way!)
I always run and get a fresh dozen of their crumb cake donuts to take to my parents in Lompoc! They donuts freeze well and it makes my parents so happy!

Nice place for a quick coffee n donut. There is a variety of donuts to choose from. The three kinds we tried we good. I loved the coffee. Friendly service.

We were on a donut quest today, no ordinary donut would do. We started at our go-​to donut source (Rolling Pin, one of the best; alas, we missed their open hours by 8 minutes… sad, after a 20-​min drive). Then we tried another place in Camarillo (Kim’s on Las Posas), but they were OUT of donuts (clearly good, I would assume). Strike two.
Unilocal to the rescue. A search led us to Spudnuts on Kimber. Oh. My. Donut-​Goodness. We walked in and saw a full case of donuts, and the baker was bringing out a fresh tray. At first glance, it was a very clean shop, and the girl greeted us nicely. She suggested a couple that had just come out and indeed they were fluffy and still warm. Oh yum.
We got nine donuts. Sweet Holy Moses, we’re two people. We just couldn’t resist. Everything is so fresh, service was more-​than-​great, and it’s nice that a little donut shop hasn’t lost its focus on quality and customer.
Also, their croissants looked ah-​mazing, and of course they gave coffee and a variety of beverages.
Hmmm, I think this supplants Rolling Pin as our place for donuts!

The Cronut with custard was delicious. They can’t officially call it this but that’s essentially what it is. We didn’t go in until after 4:30 so the choices were more limited. We’ll have to go back earlier in the day. They have quite a selection of smoothies and drinks to choose from. Might be a great alternative to McDonald’s in the morning as they have breakfast sandwiches too.

Just placed a phone order for some Strawberry doughssants (cronuts) for delivery. Although they don’t normally deliver (I was calling from San Jose) they were very accommodating. Bonus: The lady over the phone said she was going to go and make them too, so i would be getting FRESH ones. Thanks again for helping me out. My family in NBP really appreciate it. Thanks Unilocal

These donuts are INSANE! Light, airy, perfectly iced. What you do… Buy three boxes and eat one donut in the shop while you pick the rest of your assortment and also eat one in the car. They are baker’s dozens so nobody would be the wiser if you had a third on your way to wherever you are going to share these little deep fried culinary miracles. I took mine to parenting class and let’s just say they vanished before I made it to my table.

Best doughnuts. Awesome service. Love the breakfast sandwiches. All around it’s my favorite morning spot near work. Try it. It’s almost always busy.

I’ve been meaning to come to this Spudnuts for quite a while but unfortunately the the location is kind of off the beaten path. After hitting up a garage sale in the NP area I figured it was finally worth stopping by and I’m sure glad I did.
The shop itself is quite small and there’s only a couple of tables inside. The display case is small too but the variety of donuts is quite good. One of the first things that caught my eye was the ginormous chocolate donut on the top shelf. This thing must have been about the size of 5 regular sized donuts! I’ve seen a spare tire on a Prius smaller than this thing. It did cross my mind to purchase the beast but my waistline talked me out of it… thankfully.
I did end up ordering 2 cronuts! One was glazed cream filled and the other was filled with cream, bananas and topped with Nutella and nuts. $ 3 is a lot to commit to a donut but this donut version of banana crème pie really rocked my world. Yes it was messy but it was a glorious mess. The cronut had a great flaky crust and the fillings were fresh, tasty and not too overly sweet. The drizzled Nutella was a great touch.
I’ve always been a fan of Spudnuts throughout the years. Something about that potato flour donuts just works for me. Now that I’ve made my way to the NP Spudnuts, I think they’ll have a more frequent vistor ;)

Spudnuts is by far the best donut shop I have ever encountered. They have excellent low prices and great tasting quality treats. The employees are extremely friendly and make wonderful suggestions for fun things to try. They have an enormous selection and are able to accommodate to ANY craving you may have, including many custom holiday and festive goodies. It is a clean and welcoming environment; an all around fun place to hang out. My friends and I go there all the time to get sweets and enjoy their Wifi!

What was the first Nationwide Donut chain to reach Los Angeles?
Brothers Al and Bob Pelton were working as an appliance salesman and drug store clerk, respectively, when they were inspired to create a new kind of donut. Trial and error led them to developing a dry Potato mix and the spudnut was born in 1940, they then began franchising the operation. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, Spudnuts quickly spread across the country.
By the early 1950s, the chain had over 350 stores with the slogan of «Coast to Coast, from Alaska to Mexico. In 1964, Spudnuts was selling an estimated 400,000 donuts daily, when the company came up with a process to flash-​freeze their dough. The future looked bright. In late 1968, a Canadian company bought Spudnuts from the Pelton brothers. At the time, there were 315 Spudnut franchise-​holders including a recent expansion to Japan.
Three years later, Dakota Bake N Serve Inc. bought Spudnuts. This is where the cruller crumbled. The owner of Dakota Bake N Serve got caught up in a huge, proposed marina development in the Sacramento River Delta, selling all of his stock to a promoter in exchange for tax-​free bond notes that proved worthless. When the promoter was convicted on several charges of fraud and conspiracy in 1979, it was the end of Spudnuts as a chain. Existing stores were left to fend for themselves.
Numbers vary, but it’s believed roughly three dozen Spudnuts locations survive, scattered across the United States. Remarkably, 10 of those are in Los Angeles County.

Giant Donut —
While I didn’t measure it I’d guess it’s 8» in diameter, one Giant donut and very fresh, had a pillow soft interior
Bear Claw —
Your typical Bear Claw with a Cinnamon crumble topping, inside was soft like it had just been made,
and plenty of apple cinnamon filling inside those claws.
Doughssants aka The Cronut —
Beautiful crunchy layers with a pastry cream filling
I’d prefer it didn’t have all that pastry cream, none the less it was very good.

Pretty good selection of donuts. My boyfriend swears the bears claws are the best he’s had. I had a chocolate cake donut and it was very moist, not too heavy and not too sweet. I also sampled a cronut and a cream puff. They were just ok. Cream puffs are best freshly made. I ordered a coffee and was pleasantly surprised that it tasted good. Reasonable prices here too. The lady that works here is really nice and friendly.

The best Cronuts/​Doughssants in Ventura County, great donuts and top of the line customer service. Need I say more?
